In this video we are going to circle back to the topic of star points and working with them. This is an area that a lot of questions come up because it is very model specific. In this video we are going to try and add more info to the star point and T-point conversation.

Apart from the iris mechanism prototypes, this is my favourite series! ✌

What's the best way to handle multiple forms where one needs to adhere to another's geometry? Say you have a car door panel, and it has an outer skin, an inner skin, the door card, and pads on that door card. Is it better to put them all in the same form, or make different forms and somehow attach them to each other? It's difficult when you have two pieces with complex geometry that need to bolt together.

Yeah it gets tricky! I wouldn't try to do it all with a single form because that by itself gets way too complex. I think the cleanest way is probably to finish the form of the door outer skin. then do a second form for the inner skin. The reason being is after you finish the form you have a surface which can be used with the PULL tool. you can pull the vertices of your new form down to that surface. The other ways I have done this in the past if i am trying to keep it all in a single form is to model say the door skin. copy some of the form faces then start building the inner skin. Copy the faces where the card mounts then model the card. The first method is my preference though.

I’ve been watching your Fusion videos in earnest and the quality is top tier but I’m having some issues applying the knowledge to some projects I’ve been working on. Would you be willing to take a look at what I’m working on and maybe give some advice?

I didn't understand why the solution in 4:20 didn't fix the problem. And is it the blue point that is the problem or the start point.

The solution at 4:20 did fix the problem BUT it changes the shape. IF the shape needs to stay close to what you have with the star point that is why we subdivide to add more control and try to keep the shape relatively the same. The blue spot is a surface jump in curvature on the 5 sided face as a result of the tension from that star point.

i have no idea how to split a complex form afterwards... i am trying to replicate the Kinesis 360 keyboard. while i got the overall shape i cant make it into top and bottom parts because of the curves.. well i dont know how :D

Check out this video starting around 3min or so. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pw2PX9jFnO4.html You can copy just portions/faces of a form and have a top/bottom as a form. This works ok if you are doing it at a creased edge. If you aren't doing it at a creased edge then most likely you need to split it up as a solid body after the form is created with a surface or a sketch using the Split Body tool.
