Upon further reflection I think it's that the previous joke takes long enough that the audience is able to lose their train of thought and be surprised at Fry, making it funny every. single. time. Also the squishy thud his finger makes. Really absolute comedy geniuses at work.
because (from my experience) when someone in a show is instructed to push a button, you expect the scene to continue as normal… not for them to completely miss it. it’s just barely a “screw the audience” joke
I like that the Urectum joke stuck around; when Nixon shows Zapp the trajectory of V-GINY, the planet is identified as "Urectum" on a map of our solar system.
Reminds me of when a Mexican was over talking about getting Mexican food and I was like nah, let's just eat this Mexican's food since el buddy of mine who was already chilling had some grub. Both of them were like dude, that's racist and I was like, hehe... Yeah...
My favorite deep cut Futurama joke is when fry calls himself "Orange Joe" and then the professor calls him that 17 episodes later. Each joke is bizzarly funny on its own, but in a binge watch it's hilarious.
God yes I loved that! In Oktoberfest, Professor asks who the hell Fry is, "Some folks just call me Orange Joe" Later, I can't remember the episode, Professy says it, and it's such good continuity.
Aww my all time favorite joke in the show just barely got cut. Right before Bender flushes himself down the toilet, Fry is pounding on the door frantically shouting "Bender? BENDER?!" before bursting through the door and calmly asking "Have you seen my Sombrero?"
One of my favorite jokes from this series is the superhero episode, I believe it’s called Less Than Hero. Fry is trying to convince Leela to become a superhero with him. He’s like “When you were a kid, what was your biggest fantasy?” Leela: “To have parents.” Fry: “Whatever. What you should have said was to become a superhero.” Or something like that. Kills me every time. 🤣
3:07 one of the things that always bothered me was that I could never figure out if Calculon’s antennae were supposed to be symmetrical and just always looked weird or if they’re actually coming out at different angles. I feel like it varies each time
It does vary. "The Devil's hands are idle playthings" episode has them symmetrical, but this scene they're not. I think that calculons antennas are supposed to be more like hair. Suit and tie situations have symmetry, whereas "everyday" calculon has them offset, like how hair naturally parts more to 1 side
the scene of bender crying over running out of beer made me laugh as a kid because i noticed the shooting star and i always thought as a kid "he could just wish for more beer!" i dont know if that was intentional or just part of the background scene, but i still think of that as some kind of meta joke lol
I saw Billy West himself say in an interview that when acting out the "No I'm... doesn't..." scene, he didn't get the joke at all, but when watching it, found it fuckin hilarious
My favourite bender joke is the one where the unbendable bar is crushing someone, and he manages to bend it only slightly to save them, before just picking it up and tossing it. Did I make that up?
The door is the one that gets me. "You can't bend wood!" "I know that and you know that, but this door looks pretty dumb." *[folds door top to bottom]*
here's some trivia for 14. Crustaceans have their front and back switched relative to mammals. In other words, from Zoid's perspective, he put Hermes' head on the right way.
The episode where they go to extract honey from the giant space bees had me rolling: After Hermes tells Fry and the others how big the bees are, Fry asks Hermes if the honeycombs are big and Hermes says, "Honeycomb's big. Yeah, yeah, yeah". Only people of a certain age would get it but I laughed quite a bit.
Also the Professor describing the mission beforehand. Professor: "Collecting honey, ordinary honey." Leela: "That doesn't sound too bad." Professor: "This is no ordinary honey!"
@@blondejesus It's a reference to this old commercial for "Honeycomb" cereal: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mlnTAnaR4sE.html and a later one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N75uiGlvIbI.html
Shoulda included the next 5 or so seconds of the rocket launch clip. The hearbeats are so funny. I think that little scene has more jokes packed into it than any other on the whole show.
7:43 "lick my frozen metal ass" was my favorite, and then Bender falls off the cliff. I was also hoping for calculon to think his operating system Windows Vista.
The funniest part about the Uranus joke is that apparently the pronunciation is being taught differently in schools now. Apparently it's pronounced like (and I'm trying my best) "yur-an-us" instead of "your-a-nus".
Its who its coming from that makes it funny. The fact that Fry, arguably the stupidest out of the group, is so flippant about how obvious it is is what makes it funny
Me too but I'm glad it's over. It was good all the way to the end and now it gets to be good forever. Unless it ever gets brought back, we never have to worry about it going the way of the Simpsons.
You mean so it would not degenerate into the Simpsons. Simsons have sucked for about 20 years now. Only about the first 10 seasons are debatable good, after that it SUCKS. Give me the almost 100% exceleence of Futurama and its 7 seasons versus the walking corpse that is the Simpsons season 30
