A good tune can take a long time to achieve. Patience is key in this evolving world of airguns. Achieving a great tune take time and patience, never forget that. Regulators need to be broken in, barrels also need time to adjust. As seen in my previous videos it can be frustrating when you want to shoot a specific slug and your airgun just does not want to cooperate. I tried for a good time to get my 38gr NSA slugs to work with no good outcome. But once I found that my airgun liked the 35gr NSA slugs... Well it was game time. Be patient and try different slugs, you will find the pellet or slug that shoots best for you with time.
Welcome to Airguns of Michigan, we are excited to bring you content based on Airguns and accessories. Our content is based on the best practices I know and how I achieve what I feel is the best at this time for me. Opinions vary and that is the best part as well can all learn from each other. Let’s have fun and grow together along the way.

You're a great teacher!! 3 weeks ago I bought an Impact M3 sniper .25 and have shot over 1200 pellets, trying to tune the gun to the FX 34 grain pellets. I've watched the FX masterclass video's over and over again, but it didn't get me where I wanted to be. I started watching your video (over and over again) a few days ago, started tuning my gun again (finally had the balls to change the second reg) and somehow it all clicked. Now I know what 'tuning your gun on top, or just over the top of the rainbow' actually means. Dude, you are awesome!! Today, on the range, I found my sweetspot and the gun is shooting like a dream. I shot my first 10 mm (5 shot) group at 50 meter (55yards) today, and get really good ES and SD numbers (11 and 2.9 over 30 shots). The thing that put the so called 'cherry on the cake' was me changing the moderator from the DonnyFL Sumo to the stock moderator. (way less flyers) 3 weeks of stress, failure, getting myself together and trying again, came to a close and it was beautiful. Greetings from The Netherlands and many THANKS!!!!

This is probably the best video I have ever seen on how to obtain harmony between reg 2 , hammer wheel, micro hammer adjust and valve adjust for a desired speed. Once this is achieved the speed at which the gun has achieved harmony may or may not be the speed at which delivers the best accuracy . Ex .22 slug nest accuracy between 930-950 fps. This video is outstanding !!

This is the BEST tutorial and philosophy of tuning I have seen! Thank you, I can clearly understand how to tune from scratch for any situation. Every other video I've seen either gives set values , is chasing their tail around or is describing the fine tune assuming you understand how to get everything else adjusted. Even the FX channel doesn't break it down this well. I won't even go into the chaos of trying to look through forums. You just saved me multiple tins of pellets I would have wasted trying to figure this out!

Finding that perfect combination is key. I've over pressurized my Maverick to the point where the projectile speed decreased as I increased the hammer setting. And someone else's tune should be used as a guide, each gun is different. Your explanation gives EVERYONE a guide to achieve the desired results. More speed usually means more air, more air means less shots per fill. The goal is to find that balance between ACCUARCY and SHOTS PER FILL. As you mentioned, wasted air actual diminishes accuracy by pushing the pellet outside the barrel without guidance from the barrel twist. Keep it up, there are always those that think they know better, but there are more of US that appreciate your efforts to achieve maximum accuracy without over stressing the system

Rewatched today after setting my reg1 to 175 and my reg2 to 135. Trying to achieve 925-950 fps with a NSA .25 43.5 grain slug. Improved from yesterday's 820 to today's 860 but still not there. Now I need to go back thru your recommended steps. Start Macro 16 , micro to sear engage plus two clicks, Valve all the way out. Interesting observation. Once the above is set, work back to front on the gun. Macro - Micro - Valve. Can't wait to work this and see my results. If I can't achieve my fps, I won't be disappointed as I know the gun will be set up as well as possible. P.S. Born and raised in Michigan .... Thanks again!

After watching the whole video I can comment. As I don't have an Impact. But I have a rti prophet that I maximize the hammer until it doesn't increase the desired speed anymore and I give the regulator a sniff to lower it about 10fps. With the wildcat mk2, I tuned the regulator to 135bar and I worked with the hammer until I reached perfection at 20 meters, then I saw the speed. With vulcan3 I can only tune the hammer so I go straight to 20 meters to perfection. Only then do I see the results at 90 meters. Rti and wildcat all have 135 bar regulator. The wild with 60J (not max hammer, about three full turns less) and the rti with 70J.

Hey Moose, I really appreciate you responding to me yesterday. I had something else if you had a minute. I put the stock 700 mm barre backl on the .22 M3. Seems to be a little better. My question is, what speed should I be looking for? Some say 930, some say 1,000 and in between. The best I've got so far was the NSA 28.5 grain at 950 FPS. 3/4-in group at 50 yards. Not impressive. I'm setting this up for PRS for the Northeast airgun classic. I was hoping to shoot 32 grain or so slugs thinking it might help with the wind but I'm pretty new at this. Any input you want to throw at me would be awesome thanks.
@abitoutside
@abitoutside Год назад
That is a question only testing will answer. Normally I find that 980-1000 is best for most slugs. However, it can sometimes be lower speeds.

AWESOME Video Moose. Two questions. I thought the Hammer wheel (Macro) basically just moved the Macro (Micro) wheel faster. In other words, if you move the Hammer wheel from 16 to 15, the Macro wheel automatically move 10 or 15 clicks or what ever. I was under the impression that the Hammer wheel really didn't matter? It was really all about the Macro wheel. Second Question: What are your thoughts - once you found the magic spot, (if you think the Hammer/Macro wheels say, 10 and 4, are too high), Increase the reg by another 5 bar and then you'd probably reduce the stress on the Hammer & Macro? You might use a bit more air in the process but wouldn't your valve adjust for that as well?
@abitoutside
@abitoutside 2 года назад
So the Micro (I found out) is just that a micro adjuster for the hammer wheel. Even though it moves it will still micro adjust the hammer. Second part is more simple as when you find your magic number say (980) then you turn your hammer and micro wheel as low as they can go keeping the same speed (980) the you achieve harmony between the hammer and valve. Then the valve will just dictate how much air you allow in your barrel essentially to keep that pellet or slug in harmony

Hi, thanks for the video. Lots of great info. I have a question. So on your final segment of tuning, you said to shut the front valve half a turn per 5 shots. When you get the velocity drop and find doorway, to unturn half a turn. Can this be done without emptying all the pressure ? I don't want to ruin the valve. This is my first M3 or high end pcp. Thank you for your time.
@abitoutside
@abitoutside Год назад
Yes sir, the valve can be moved in and out at any time without degassing the gun. The regulators however can only be opened while the gun is aired up.

Hi Moose! Nice vid! Can you explain a bit more on how to lower regs (both of them)? Front reg is automatically depressurized when taking off the bottle, so no prob there (or should we dry fire and degas completely)? For second reg FX manual states to simply lower the pressure by adjusting reg clockwise WITHOUT need to degas BUT only do it by 1/4 turn-steps and dry fire in between. Quid?

Whenever I see tunes for the M3 that have the hammer wheel set at 16 I always make this face 🤔.... I was surprised my M3 tune from the factory was set at 16 because FX claims that their factory setting is efficient. Great job on explaining the basics. I really enjoyed this video. Which .30cal pellet do you find to be the most accurate in your impact? What speed?

One question. Almost none of the vids I have watched about tuning talk about where the front reg should be, or at least start at. Only ones I have heard say anything is leave it at the stock setting, which said was around 155bar. Any though on that subject?
@abitoutside

I run it 35-40 higher than rear reg, only way to insure good recovery time.

Is that better then the 20-30fps over your speed then use the valve to bring it down to what you want? Because this method you showing now seems so much easier then the 20-30 over thing lol

Awesome! I subbed! Question- I want to tune my .25 FX hybrid slugs in my 600mm M3 Impact pellet barrel. 1) Should I turn the barrel to the slug port, and 2) Should I start with the 100 bar (second reg pressure), or do you recommend starting higher?
@abitoutside
@abitoutside 11 месяцев назад
Thanks for the sub buddy. Yes the slug port and 100 might be ok to start, doesn't hurt to start lower to find that sweet spot.

Very good video, congratulations. I have a question. It is true that when setting to maximum, you should clearly hear how the plenum fills with air or that depends on each rifle. And another question is what is the range of a good standard deviation? greetings and thanks

Thanks, plenum sound never concerned me. Also less than 3 is sufficient less than 2 is ideal

Hi, Moose, I like your method of tuning, but could you give a comment on 95% rule. I have read on couple of forums about it. It says that if you want to shoot at 950fps you should find reg pressure at hammer max to give you 1000fps, and then go down by 5% reducing hammer till 950 fps. Using your method, I would end up at reg 120, but If rule 95% taken into account and looking for max of 1000pfs, I would crank reg to 140 bar. Would you say this rule is not for impacts?
@abitoutside
@abitoutside Год назад
Everyone has differing opinions on this. You could apply that to my methods, and it would work also. I should have added this to my guide.. maybe I'll do a follow up video, thanks for the input.
@nerijusjankauskas3875
@nerijusjankauskas3875 Год назад
@@abitoutside For sure you can apply 95% rule on your method, but like I said you would end up with reasonably higher reg pressure. I am kind of questioning this 95% rule, because if I tune the gun your way, I can reach the same velocity with lower reg.

Everyone is right Moose best video for tuning the M3. I've been fiddling with mine for weeks. .22 cal with the 800mm tension barrel. Tried javelin, NSA, zan, H&N. from 28 grain to 33 grain. Can get any good groups. I put the stock 700 mm barrel on. Seems a little better. My question is, what speed should I be looking for. Some say 930, some say 1,000 and in between. The best I've got so far was the NSA 28.5 gn at 950. 3/4" group at 50 yards. Not impressive. I'm setting this up for PRS for the northeast air gun classic. I was hoping to shoot 32 grain or so thinking it might help more in the wind but I'm pretty new at this. Any input you want to throw at me would be awesome. Thanks.
