HI guys last video here on the FX Panthera, in this one we take a look over the rifle and I sum up my experience with it, as well as summarizing the work done to the rifle.
You appear to have refined this air rifle in many ways that the ordinary punter would have no chance of doing. Great job. There do seem to be a lot of nearly new ones for sale for some reason.
Buy a £2000 pound rifle, buy a lathe, buy a milling machine, buy a machinists education, make new parts for the rifle with your newly acquired machine shop and education. Have a rifle that shoots like it shoot have in the first place.
@sub12airgunners I didn't want the hassle of shipping back and forth, and I was happy with the liner, so I just made the corrections on my own. Lesson learned. Too bad Daystate doesn't not a non electronic Red Wolf.
Good Morning Jake, Having watched all your Panthera vids I will make the assumption that the new FX king will be the same (especialy mine) and I am that close to sending it back. I have 2 guns HALF the price that give better groupings and no flyers. For the likes of us lesser mortals who have no engineerings skills other than fitting a plug what would you suggest ?. I dont want to send it back, I want it fixed, if it means a new barrel so be it.
yes it's very frustrating the guns are very slick lovey to shoot but not accurate i have had just about all the FX range and the only one i haven't put a solid barrel in was the dream tac 😀 i can say a solid barrel solved all the problems with the panthera i think it would be the same for the king 👍
I think you pretty much killed anyones idea of buying this gun if they watch your vids... Great vids but for nearly 2K you have shown they are not all they're made out to be...and it was hardly a"LITTLE TLC" you re-engineered a new barrel for it for a start!!!
Happy New Year Jake:- This is exactly why I will never buy another FX ( had several all with similar issues from new) with your skill set, it will have been entertaining for you fettling it, but the actual cost to put an £1800 plus rifle right is absolutely ludicrous, for most of us mere mortals, must be close to another £1k in materials and machine shop time. Give me a Czech built rifle any day.
If within the first 30 days the goods are 'not od merchantable quality' then EVERY dealer is obliged to offer you a full refund or, if you choose, a replacement. I believe you best option was a replacement.
Missing the point, they like a challenge and love to engineer a solution. That’s really what the channel is about. Some of the guns out of the box are fine and just need a few minor changes where others need a little bit more. They had a run of really good guns and the FX Panthera and the BSA R12 have not been quite as good but have led to some of their best video’s. With a little luck the manufacturers might take note and build in some of their fixes and technology so we all benefit.
to be fair css did offer a full refund and or replacement as soon as they saw the first vid, but as paul says we do like to see what we can do with even the bad ones 😀
never liked the stx system, to many different bits all bolted together some get it to work well but not me 😀Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 😀👍
I have one and am not impressed with poor quality control. I would be better off if it was a kit. They have monkeys throwing these things together. I won't be purchasing any more.
You're happy with the lowish power then? No doubt you have a good reason for that? I would probably be a bit miffed. Should I be? Thanks. All the best.
Did you ever try bending a stiffener on the front rail? I thought that with adding tension you'd be able to get away with a lighter stiffener and yet nullify harmonics. Based upon your experiences, my answer to the question of whether to recommend a Panthera is......only if you have a lathe to fix it.
Great video and work you have done on the Panthera. To be honest, FX should be ashamed of themselves. Its great you have the means and the knowhow to build and fabricate the pieces needed to make this rifle to perform. However, i's sure there are many people (I'm counting myself on them as well) that will not have the needs or knowledge. People are spending a premium price for these rifles; it should perform much better out of the box with limited tuning required. Specially with rifles (JTS as example) out there for a fourth of the price that are performing very well directly out of the box. Don't take me wrong, I like FX and like to own a FX King at some point. However, this video made me to wait for more "review" videos before investing my money. Thanks again for the video(s) and Happy new Year!
yes for the money we should have been doing little things to make it nicer to shoot not getting it to actually shoot 🙄 we try to be honest with the videos but it's all based on the gun we get so may not be the same experience as everyone gets 😁
Hello, a rifle that leaves the factory like the one you received is discouraging, for any person it is a real problem, not all gunsmiths are willing to give a refund, good luck with the next one, waiting, thank you very much.
To you for your work, I'm not convinced by the fx cannons either, maybe they do better with high speeds, they have been in first place in competitions, health@@sub12airgunners
Hi guy's I've watched all your videos regarding the work you guy's have done on this rifle and the transformation they've made but I can't help feeling the a brand like fx and a price tag of nearly 2k it should have shot like it does now out the box fx's quality control needs looking at really not acceptable at all. But great work and a joy to watch your machining skills at the lathe. Have a great 2024 guy's til the next one regards phill
A lot of people have accuracy problems with most rifles. You amazingly correct faults of these rifles but still have accuracy issues. Do you weigh and measure your pellets as they are so inaccurate with weight and head size. This does make some differece so it is not always the guns fault. Nice video as usual. Happy new year.
after we sorted the barrel we was more than happy with the accuracy all the other bits are things you could do to any gun good or bad trigger, stock, mags. we don't weigh and measure pellets we test all the guns with out of the tin pellets as that's the way most people shoot them, we do for the BR comps
I was thinking about buying one of these, would it be possible to adjust the gun so it's shooting closer to 12lb, was not very impressed with it shooting down to 10.29 on some shots, I like the purple on the gun it makes it look classy. Thanks for showing us what you have done to the gun. I have been told the Compact Hunter with the short barrels, would not be as accurate as your rifle with the longer barrel, is someone pulling my leg, I am new to buying air guns, so forgive me for not knowing much about it. My Dreamline magazine is working great now, thanks to your video.
barrel length makes very little difference to accuracy in sub 12😀 you can adjust the power up but we set them for accuracy not power and lots of guns shoot better at a little lower power
As a big Sub 12 Air gunners fan, I can’t believe what I’ve just watched. Buy a 2k rifle and then change the design to make it shoot straight. I despair. I pity those who have purchased the basic rifle.
yes it was very disappointing but i am hoping ours was a Friday afternoon gun and they are not all bad, it's a real shame as now it's a fantastic gun to shoot. thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 😀😀
Sometimes they just need a little help to fulfil there potential ! ,yours was needing a little more ,i think as you say the Barrels are for some (pardon the pun) a bit of hit& miss they should do a upgrade /option with CZ ,i thinks they would turn them into real winners as FX has got most things right 👍 Great vid/information Thank u !
Great video overview of your time with the rifle. I unfortunately went through 2 of them when they first came out and found the same problems as you when I did my reviews for my RU-vid channel. Unfortunately I don’t have your skills and expertise to remedy the situation; having said that when you’re spending nearly £2k on a top tier rifle, you’d expect that it should shoot amazing out of the box. I was truly gutted it had so many issues. After my experience with the Panthera, I’m going to see how a Mk2 version performs before I reconsider getting one again.
thanks for taking the time to comment 😀 yes it's very disappointing to here so many people with the same experience as us, for the money it should be good out of the box🙄 the shame of it is when it's shooting well it's a fantastic rifle lots of the people from the range have shot it and they all love it now, if you are ever down near petes air gun farm you are very welcome to have a go of it 😁
Fantastic video as usual..I've the 22 take down which shoots really well so I bought a 177 dynamic last Thursday..it shoots worse than your one did originally ..cut down the carbon stiffener as that was to long..Made no difference it's still a dog 😅
that's the thing i have seen really good ones and some really bad ones the QC needs looking at imo 🙄Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 😀👍
Lovely journey. Lovely upgrades. Lovely old job. 🙂 When will FX give up on the liner idea and go back to a solid barrel? Even the older FX's with a solid smooth twist were better than the liners.
Thanks Tim, yes they may work in fac but i wish they could offer a solid barrel on the sub 12's, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment mate 😀
yes we could have returned it but we wanted to see how good we could make it and it is a fantastic gun now Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 😀👍
Another excellent video. However, just imagine someone without your skills had bought that gun. They wouldn't be very happy, and would be going back to the RFD to get the various faults fixed.
yes i would be very disappointing that's why its important to show the gun as we get it not after we have played with it. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 😀👍
Fantastic outcome, but alot of work ,i took some of your advice and bought a BRK Ghost. Its superbly accurate with AA express ,never had to touch anything, love it ,big thanks for all the videos, have a great new year.
i think the Ghost is one of the best guns out of the box you can buy at the moment and i am glad your happy with it 😀Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 😀👍
Sorry to go off topic. Been following the channel for a while now. Have also seen and read about your channel else where. I am sure a heard or read you have sell some parts or bits on ebay,if this is correct what name do you sell under,i have had a look with no luck, thanks
good morning, I would like to say right away that I admire your skills, I have a question if I would install the barrel from the HW100 5.5 the barrel is 600 mm, for fx 3 impact
How much did it cost for the solid barrel i have the 177 its not bad with shots and groupings but not the best just wondering how much it would cost to do the conversion?
Hi it would depend on what barrel you use, we did ours so it was just the cost of the barrel £180 but you would need to get it machined as well it's not something we do for people
It's a lovely looking rifle, but at the money they want for it, you should never have had to put the amount of hours and machine time into it you have. That said, luckily, you have the tools and skills to sort the shoddy manufacturing. Beautiful work as always.
Great work on this rifle to turn it around. I would imagine that most would return it, which is understandable. I do like the look of the FX King, also like the Epic Two as well. All the best to you for 2024.
Great video Jake ,unbelievable transformation of this gun mate .Day one it was very disappointing, now it’s a great gun and what it should have been from the factory.Keep up the good work mate and happy new year to you and Jeff.
outstanding my friend . plus side is i know you love to fiddle so that gun was definitely one for you 🤪 what you made is what it should be out the box . to be fair i do like the look and the form factor but not the amount of work you had to put in to make it right . crawly surplus are awesome customer service is second to none 👍
great video, thanks for talking me out of the Panthera lol. Sounds like all the other FX guns I've owned: great innovative ideas, grossly over-engineered design and piss poor execution.
I get the feeling that FX uses the Sub12 uk as a dumping ground, Ive written to them for help only to be ignored (customer service does not exist) Can you imagine the US sales if FX send rifles of this quality to their customers ?
I had the same issue with the FX barrel in the company sleeve. I had to then swap to a 14mm steel sleeve press fit the liner for it to be accurate, making it a sort of solid barrel now. Great video and good info.
Thanks for the update on the Panthera. Very kind words for a rifle you have really worked on above and beyond what 99% of people would or even could do. Not saying anything bad on the FX but you really did keep the comments on a positive note. One of the many reasons I love this channel. Really inspired me to branch out and start doing some work to my air rifle as well.
Great video & pleased you got there with it. I love my Impact MK2, always been superb. Even the AMP is untouched in nearly 4yrs. Though I had to replace a friends in his Crown MK1, a simple job 😄
From total garbage out of the box to now a stunning air rifle! You have literally transformed it. I hope FX are taking note! Shame you put a cheap scope on it 😉
