Nice clip and assessment Art. Fair comment on the gauges. I have changed the bars/risers on every Harley I have owned. We are all a bit different shape, so I just chalk it up to making the bike mine. I went with the variable pressure clutch as part of the 117 upgrade and it is easily the lightest and nicest clutch I have used.
Paul Frankel thanks ! Please like and subscribe! Trying to get 100k subscribers so I can get a RU-vid button. Only 99,950 more! Also I got a Saddleman Step Up LS seat, Bung King bars and risers and a few other goodies since last video. Update soon
I also went with Lucky Dave's 13 in pullback risers with a memphis shades quarter fairing. Was the perfect choice for me. 2016 FXDLS. Tach is virtualy worthless where it sits but looks cool. My clutch pull is just ideal, you may need to lube cables or adjust.
Bad ass bike all around . Dang did the dude leave the channel for dead , was hoping to see more videos on the bike . Dude ripping ass in areas where cars have alarms is a job well done Haha
Art Solo Unfortunately not. Might need to check with the dealership and see how much give you have to work with on the cables. My guess would be very little if you are going the riser route. Might be the only option. Sorry. Good luck and looking forward to see what you go with!
yeah unfortunately bro ur kinda screwed with setup options. I have the same bike and unless u go with another style drag bar ur pretty much gonna b extending ur lines. just find someone u trust cuz they r gonna have to do some mod work on the junction box under your triple tree cuz the bike is too new and not a lot of those type of parts out yet! but yeah I would recommend Big Als all day!
If you want to avoid costly line extentions you have to stay under 10 inches total (bars and risers). Sorry. I had the same dillema. Like and subscribe please!
I have the same fairing on my 07 street bob and the buffeting was horrendous. So eventually I got a laminar lip deflector that goes on top, and that took away just about all the buffeting. The company is Laminar Lip I believe and the deflector was actually for the smaller fairing but fit the bigger one no problem.
Can't say I like the crash bobbins front or rear. Your choice of leaner bar is great (I have one on my 2012 Wide Glide) but it doesn't suit this bike...just a little shorty bum stop bar to keep your significant other feeling half way safe would be better and make it easier for them to mount / dismount.. Personally I like 6 inch T-bars with a little pullback so as to keep myself leaning forward a little into the breeze. I like your FXDL saddle, it must be soooo much more comfortable than the stocker on my 'Glide without the bulky look of the Sundowner touring seat I have for long runs. I'm liking the TBR pipe a lot. One of the guys I was riding with on Sunday had one on a warmed over Dyna Fatbob and it sounded even better in the metal. Your neighbours must cringe if like me you are off early to work on the bike...bit rowdy but nice note. The clutch, well with the 110 motor comes a little extra torque over my 103 and it requires the heavier clutch spring...as some one said "you'll get used to it" or if it continues to bother you, try a hydraulic clutch. I built one out of stuff I bought on Ebay for my 2005 FXDL a few years ago and it was sweet. Overall, what a beautiful bike mate, you're a lucky man. I like the Breakout too but this is more of a rider's machine.
I've had very few bikes with tachs and I never needed one. When I've had one, I ignored it. I have ears. The speedometer, that's a different story. Most of my motorcycles have had the speedometer on the fatbob-style gas tanks. It's not too much a stretch to see it while riding. Never a problem.
Also an aftermarket hydraulic clutch would solve your heavy clutch issues. I would do it at the same time you change bars, since you would need a longer clutch cable anyway.
A 2 into 1 like the two bros or dual supertrapps always sounds best on a Harley. I have no clue why this was in my recommended, I can't even afford an 80's Dyna. but good video.
Art Most Harleys have a stiff clutch there are solutions -Mechanical assist like an ez pull or go with a hydraulic clutch which HD sells If you want taller bars you will most likely need longer cables and wiring. Longer cables are sold by many businesses including Harley to make your wiring easier look into a California company called Guerrilla Cables they make plug and play cable extensions using HD connectors.
I always wanted to take one of these and put a Arlen ness springer front end with a tall skinny spoke wheel. Fat tire on the back and maybe a "junk yard" Subaru turbo with 585 cam. Hey yer pard
For the clutch look into a hydraulic clutch conversion. There should be one available for that unit, six speed correct?. I converted my 01 Nightrain not because it was difficult but because I only have one arm and need to relocate the clutch lever to the right side.
damn so ur on 580 a lot, right? or maybe 780? at least u can lane split bro! lol. but u need some lane splitting bars! bro visit Big Als. as far as cables go, ur screwed bro, ur gonna have to extend!
The clutch on mine is not heavy at all. If you've been riding long, you know you don't have to pull the clutch but about a third of the way back for a smooth shift. Pulling it to the bar is doing nothing but stretching the cable. I often don't use it at all but I'm a long-time rider that understands that stuff. The other stuff, non-issues. I guess it's required to have loud "look at me" pipes on a Harley but I will never understand why anyone would want something as loud and obnoxious as those TBRs. But that's just me. Enjoy the ride.
Great looking bike I like your mods love the sound. Was very excited when they made s model with 110 engine it's awesome!!! Always amazed how I can really like so many different styles/formats Harley comes up with. As far as comfort it could be worse try my V Rod Muscle it's definitely not that comfy. That's why they make Ultras street and road glides lol. ✌️
Art Solo Do you a have completed RU-vid channel I was trying to find more vids only saw a couple videos. I want to visit your "about"section as well but could not find. Looks like you have over 50k views but just wanted background you said you had previously owned same basic bike but with the 103 engine. My wife rides a little Honda shadow 750 shes tiny Asian girl 105lbs 5'1 but she says her Honda is too slow lol. I put her on Sportbikes but she plant feet on the ground. She sat on the Slim glide s also 110 and really liked the way it feels and very low seat height how does seating and mid controls on your bike compare? I think she would love the mid controls on your bike but never tried her on it. Thanks
Paulk Master I would say that the Lowrider or Lowrider s would be great for a small woman when it comes to seat height and mid controls. But they are heavy. If she can handle the weight I'd say it's perfect.
Art Solo Thanks for answering if it's not heavier than the slim glide s then yes she can take it off the stand. I subscribed to your channel your videos are excellent ✌️😎👍
People still think of Harleys from 15yrs ago. I have a 2011 Sportster 48 with 12000kms and its never missed a beat. The Harley brand has come a long from the days of oil splatter.
Bomber I understand the bad apple concept however I had a 2015 FXDF bought new that was an awful bike with its problems. Thankfully I am rid of it. So not all criticisms are based off 15 year old rumor. According to my discussions with an engineer that worked for HD for 35 years, there are a list of a few things that will go wrong with about 99% of Dynas sold and almost all those things happened to mine within the first 18 months of ownership. None involved an oil puddle. Some involve things much much more serious than that.
Throw some pull back apes on there, 12 or 14s. Put a Rekluse clutch in it for heavy traffic riding. Tachometer: you'll learn the bike's feel and wont need to be staring at it all the time. Badass bike though!
I have a suggestion. Get a different bike. If your looking for something more comfortable with stock bars then you picked the wrong bike. This bike was designed for spirited riding. And it does that very well. I've kept my stock bars because the stock set up is perfect for carving canyons. Plus one on that bunking bar. You should check out the passenger one too. Together they afford the best protection.
How did you manage to get those pipes here in CA? looks like they're setting off car alarms, have you been pulled over yet? Sounds gorgeous btw. I went with the regular LR becuse it's a little easier to modify the bars without spending an arm and a leg on new lines and wires.
I have two Bros Comp-S and they are very loud. I'm expecting a DB killer from them in the mail tomorrow. I also live in Cali and The cops look me over too often. I also ordered from Revzilla.
how the thing handle in the corners? I'm in so cal and ride a lot of canyons. I have the FXSB. (breakout) I love my bike. got it in October and have 7K on it. but I've already ground my pegs down to nubs and have chewed up the bottom of my primary dragging in the turns. but I do also ride it like a sport bike more so then a Harley lol. so I'm really looking at this bike.
bike is looking good. can wait to get mine. does the shift linkage have a brand logo on both sides of the mechanism? keep the videos on the bike up please. they are all I have until I get mine.
Hey mate, great video. I'm over here in Australia with the same bike and attaching a quick release sissy bar. I've got the HD indicator replacement kit but doesn't work because the rear lights are 3 into 1 HID. How did you set yours up to keep the lights and have that extension to put the bar on. Cheers Tim 🤙🇦🇺
you can get clutch levers with pull assist. I know i'm late to the party with this but check out MS Blockhead new softail lowrider i think the bar might be just what your looking for well that's if you still looking that is anyway have a good one nice bike and ride safe.
Nice review and bike! Thanks for pointing out the dislikes especially the clutch grip. I'm not keen of having a lefty pop eye arm. Have you considered a mid rise apebar? I think it will add a nice touch to it. The crash peg is also something new and have never seen it before. it's definitely minimal.
Hey, nice bike and awesome sound! However, I noticed oil leaking from the engine top bolts? Is that water or something else? Have you noticed any leaks or funny sounds etc? I am planning on buying one so I am doing my research and the bar is high for that kind of money. Cool bike though!
100streamliner it was water. I had just washed it for the video. Definitely water. I definitely recommend this bike if you're in the market for a Harley. Hands down the best performer in the line up. I am very picky
You have one GORGEOUS motorcycle. I'm in LOVE with the FXDLS. My goal is my next bike will be the FXDLS. I saw and sat in one last year at one of my local HD dealerships and immediately fell in love with it. That one had the 114. Brand New. I was thinking, at the time, that the 114 only came in the CVO baggers. It blew my mind. Being a shorter Rider I was having a difficult time finding a Harley I could flatfoot. And now that Dtna production has ceased, at least for now, it should become a collectors item also. That's pure speculation on my part. Just found you channel. RSMF. PS Check out Brooklyn FXDLS channel. He and his crew mostly ride Dynas. I'm not partial to the look of T bars but he likes them. I think I would prefer mini apes. But I can't really recommend either since I've never riden a bike with either.
Awsome bike man! I have a Fat Bob, same pipes, love em. Question, do those front crash Bungs scrape at all in serious corners? I'm subscribed as of now.
Dude I've got the same bike. Yours is looking good. DK custom 2" "Fat" stealth bar risers. Much much better. Clutch cable is maxed out at full lock, but all the other cables are fine. Wouldn't want to go any higher without changing the brake line and it's welded to the connector block, so that would be a major pain in the tits. Would need to go to a dealer, as they'd need to prime the ABS. I'm totally happy with in now, still easy to hustle about and way more comfy. Also, you might want to have the dealer look at the clutch pull, mine is fine.
Bike is Quick bro! I have a 2016 Indian Chief Classic in Pearl. I could Never ride Without floorboards or a "Heal" shift. So much easier on the left foot with a heavy clutch.
I have a 2012 fxdc. Was looking at buying this bike but I didn't like the handlebars either. Now if I could just put pull backs that came with my fxdc on this bike I would probably only one right now.
dheller777 I'm actually getting pull back risers and 2 inch bars next week. Keep everyone updated. Yeah the bars are crap on the stock low Rider s, but let's be honest most ppl change the bars on their bike
He must not be very strong! I'm going on 67 and the clutch pull resistance on my 2015 FLHP Road King Police is not something that I notice. he'll probably develop some muscle eventually and then he will not be saying that anymore about the clutch pull.
your FLHP has a hydraulic clutch, pretty much a girl clutch. Low Rider S has cable clutch about double the force yours has, so dont be a boss if you have a girl clutch... LOL
PeterDad60 indeed, but my first three Harleys all had cable clutches sitting on main street during Sturgis...before calling my bike a girl...I've been down your road and repeat, "you'll get used to it."
Mine is fairly stout. So if I'm in a lot of start-stop traffic, I tend to hold it with just the last two fingers way out by the ball on the end and let leverage be my friend.
No haven't as I have come from a Yamaha XJR1300, so they kind of feel Ok. I'm 6foot tall so Peg and Bar relationship is comfortable. I have a Sundowner seat fitted as well, for the wife.
digging what u did so far! I don't know how high u wanna go on bars but check out Big Als Cycles I think they might have some bars u will like. not sure if ur into the MX style bars but they have some with various heights of rise on them(from 1.5" to 4")and u can keep ur stock risers or I believe they have some 6" risers that have about 1.5" of pullback with another 1.5" of pullback built into their bars. and they have throttle by wire bars for ur bike. they r located in NorCal. check em out bro, its worth it. ur bike looks nice!
it all depends on how u like to ride. I have the same bike and I went with 8" risers that have 1.5" of pullback. and my bars have 3.5" of rise and 1.5" of pullback(from Big Als). the setup feels amazing! but my shop had to modify my junction box under the triple tree to accommodate the new brake line connector.
Consider: luckydaves.com/product/lucky-13-bar/ - the pull back moves the bar closer to you, they are narrower than the H-D drag bar and you can get the riser height as tall as you like. Note that longer brake lines and clutch cable may be needed depending on how high you go.
Yo Art. Any issues installing your Arlen Ness fairing? According to RevZilla, this fairing won't fit on a 2017 FXDLS, but obviously in this video it fits yours just fine. Clarification? Thanks
How do you like that sissy bar?? Any complaints? Is there any loud rattle through acceleration? Wanted to pick up the same one for my lowrider s. Thanks man
Michael Scofield it's actually a Harley part out of the parts catalog. I think it's an 8 inch sissy bar and pad (sold separately). Docking hardware required. Please like and subscribe
As to your other issues, there are a ton of handlebars and risers out there to try out. I would go to the standard Dyna bar& riser and look to then going with the riser mount Tach & Speedo. It would mean a different tank dash. As an alternitive, Dakota digital makes a nice all in one digital unitI think you could have it sistered into the system. It has a digital readout of gear your in, mileage a sweep tack and mph display. www.jpcycles.com/product/352-560
Lucky Dave's lucky 13 bars !!! lane splitter tbars that are an 11" rise with some pull back.. also the bars have that mx style ... super comfortable , i can actually see back over my shoulders top notch !!! his seats are amazing as well !! These are the San Diego bars but pretty much the same ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XOMYjsDj2-s.html
I see u have put a lot of money into mainly cosmetic parts(excluding pipes) bro almost everyone does that and almost everyone does shit backwards! Bro get some rears shocks and some upgraded fork kits!
Steven Suchy Suchy I'm actually getting Bung King risers and bars this weekend. Went with 2 inch bars and 6 inch risers because I wanted to avoid having to lengthen the cables
Art Solo what kong of bungking bars and risers? I have same bike and i want to change handle bar and risers to be more comfortable too. We have have the same pipe too. :)
Get after market levers if you want real soft clutch and brakes. i had the same problem with my levers on the street bob - the brakes cant even be pulled back and the scum bag dealership technicians said it was normal hahaha.
If you see this bike with high sissy bar and mini ape? it looks mint like that :) if i had this bike i would put high sissy bar and mini ape :) as well as 180 mm or 200 mm rear tire on it.
The clutch clutch is a Harley clutch It is what it is 1930 farm equipment . It is what it is Look into a victory If you like American .May the wind be in your face and your feet on the boards .
Art Solo I agree on the speedometer placement, but that's just a Harley. I noticed you have a handlebar phone mount. Just download a speedo app. Some are free. Works for me.
adam chardon no it does not. At least I haven't experienced that yet, or heard from anyone who has then that scraping occurs. I'll start to ask around for u
Thanks man, just curious because I have been looking into those but find myself scraping the pegs all the time..which iam cool with since they fold. Something that doesn't fold could be interesting.
adam chardon- Those bung king crash bars are wicked strong. I've got a 16 fxdls with em front, rear, and top shock mount. I routinely pull up somewhere, climb off, kick it over and storm off to wherever I'm going. No shittin, people trip. Hilarious, and no damage whatsoever. 18" apes don't even touch ground at full lock. I never put the ones I love on a pedestal, and they fucking love me for it.
