Billy Johnson driving the FXMD Unlimited Time Attack NSX became the first Time Attack car to turn a sub 1:40.0 lap time at Buttonwillow -with the factory unibody, unaltered suspension geometry, and the stock synchronized 5-speed transmission no less.

Absolutely mind blowing especially for 7 years ago, this is what .2 slower than PZtunings record which was after repave? No idea if this car still exists but definitely should attempt something once more especially with newer A005 soft compounds could definitely go even quicker! Also super fucking gangster you did that on a standard h pattern

adam b - It's a stock, synchronized NSX transmission (other than an OS Giken "Super Lock" LSD), so 3rd & 4th are the only gears needed at Buttonwillow for most of the track for the car's gear ratios, grip, and power level.

"...with the factory unibody and unaltered suspension geometry no less" Don't forget the H-pattern gearbox as well.... Wow! This car/driver combo is insanely capable. FXMD have created a badass TA car. I would rather see timeattack cars favor stickier tires rather than tube frames. As FXMD has done. The more tubes, the less like TA it is. Tube frames on grooved tires is confusing to me, unibody-based cars on slicks makes sense to me.

At first I'm wondering why you're braking so early for T1. And then I realize that the track no longer seems to have any straights (!!). What an amazing machine! (and, the driver seems vaguely competent as well :))

Great driving as always Billy! I 'm watching you over the s2ki the last years. Is there a corner exit oversteer tendency or is it just the cold tires? Keep up the great work!!!

Look at previous videos of the car. It's the best handling and more stable than its ever been, despite the tires still being 60* colder than operating temp.

Billy Johnson In deed! I also realised that by the end of the video any corner exit oversteer tendency has been limited. Maybe it's more of rotation around the apex...

Eeeen321, unfortunately time attack and especially the unlimited class isn't what it use to be back in the heyday before 2010. Both series died after making big changes that didnt make anyone happy. Since then, TA is slowly rebuilding and gaining traction but there seem to be "clicks" of people at the various events and even more politics than ever. The 1:37 was an official Extreme Speed record, and no one mentions it because unfortunately no one cares about TA anymore. There really aren't any fast Unlimited class cars competing but that may change soon. I'm looking forward to the new builds, the track was repaved and is even faster, so I'm looking forward to new competitors and even faster times.

Billy, is this car not GTA or SLB legal? which part? should be reasonably easy to comply isn't it?

@ghettoracer - Yes the car is GTA & SLB legal. It's actually closer to stock than pretty much any other Unlimited class car in the past 6-7 years. Stock suspension arms/geometry, stock 5-speed transmission and gearing, etc...

It is an official Time Attack record. GTA doesn't recognize it and that's part of the "click" issue in US time attack. In Japan, private test events are considered 'official' times even though they were not at a sanctioned TA event. Our 1:37.5 was at least at an ExtremeSpeed event.

got cha... i know what you mean. haters are gonna hate. too bad lot of people in TA are like that. i'm in the process of spec'ing and building a car aiming to break Street FWD and i actually got a bit of hate from fellow Honda ppl. so lame. what's wrong with me aiming for the record? i unfriended a bunch of haters on fb. can't wait to smash it.

It depends on the rest of the car, tire, aero, power, etc... You can make any setup go fast.

As a long time fan of FXMD's ta build, it is a bit of a bummer to not have ANY fxmd news since Aug... and THAT was not even any type of official lap/news. No one else has claimed/stated FXMD ran a 1:37.xxx .... only FXMD claims that. And after the unconfirmed claim, there has STILL been no mention of this new "record" by anyone else. Why is that?? If the car ran THAT much quicker than last time, you would think SOMEONE would have mentioned it by now? Not to mention the only thing FXMD is talking about recently is being bored with the NSX because of no competition?!? Oh please, based on what? The unofficial lap time no one else has mentioned? Or the fact that the Unlimited class is empty? What a ridiculous reason to not run the car you built. How about you run an official 1:37.xxx in the car you keep claiming ran a 1:37.xxx? If FXMD's attitude is that they are bored with the NSX racing against "no competition" and in response are asking fans if they should build ANOTHER over hyped BRZ/FRS... then I say, go race the NSX against some comparable cars, and good luck with your BRZ/FRS. Talk about boring! Another FRS/BRZ?!?
