Another thing to consider (advice from a doctor): an important aspect to keep in mind is - what is expected of you as an F1 or an F2 equivalent. "If you enter as an F1, you will be on equal footing with all the other F1s, including the local graduates. Everyone will expect that you will be unfamiliar with the ins and outs of how the NHS runs. If you enter as an F2, there will be higher expectations, not just from a clinical point of view but also from an administrative perspective. These skills are harder to pick up as a foreigner/IMG, and can be a great deal of stress if you end up taking a job where there is a lot of pressure to know these things."
Thank you very much for all the valuable information. I do have a question. I have graduated in 2017 with a GMC recognized internship. But due to the language barrier and the time gap, I find it very anxious to apply for fy2.. is it still possible for me to apply for Fy1 if I explained about this? I am currently doing clinical attachments to hone the skills but there are limitations to my learning as I am not a registered doctor in my country..
@@nipunkalupahana6675 Im sorry but since you have already done an internship - you have become overqualified for FY1 and you must hence apply to FY2 or another non-training job Have you sat your PLAB 1 and PLAB 2 exams?
@@IMGMarvels thanks for the reply. I have completed PLAB 1. Was gonna do PLAB 2 on July but it got postponed due to the covid situation. I'd really appreciate any specific advice that you can give me..
@@nipunkalupahana6675 My advice is dont give up! Work on your portfolio (check our CV video) and prepare well for the plab 2 and fy2 interviews (video up on our channel) - also brush up on your conversation english as much as possible because it will factor in the plab 2 and your interviews as well - since you must have passed the ielts to book your plab it really shouldnt be too much of an issue just be confident :)
@@IMGMarvels thank you so much..I graduated from China, but the internship that I did there was not sufficient in terms of skills and interaction due to the language barrier.. I'm trying very hard on improving my clinical skills and be adequate enough to be an FY2. I will surely watch all your videos. Again really appreciate all the guidance and support you are providing for the IMG community.
Thanks for the awesome video:).Just to add SJT can be taken at Pearson centres internationally as well. The details can be found on the UKFP page on the Pearson website.
Can you still be accepted into fy1 training if you have a low application score(sjt+epm)eventhough you went through the rest of the process i.e you were eligible, you got the desired score for ielts/oet and passed plab1 and plab2
Its great to have this video and its very usefull, i have a question what if someone who graduate from china and now doing PG training in china, does there experience count or does they apply for FY1 or FY2 . PG in china is for 3 year, does there years count in internship year or some thing else, please make a video on it. Thank you
I’d really appreciate a reply: Currently running a Masters degree program in Surgery (hands on training), I’d be done by 2022 by God’s grace. Looking to register and seat for PLAB 1 of 2022. My question is: Would I be considered overqualified for FY1 program since my school isn’t listened amongst the specialty program accepted by GMC-Uk?
Hi! The videos on this channel are detailed and informative... I have a question about the FY2 standalone application. The FY1 vs FY2 table that you've shown in this video tells that "PLAB 1 test result should be ready by the time we apply for FY2 standalone program", so does that mean that without completing my PLAB 2 I can apply for FY2 standalone? as far as my knowledge goes I think a full GMC registration requires one to clear both PLAB 1&2, please correct me if I am wrong. However, if one can apply FY2 standalone just with their PLAB 1 test results then it's truly fantastic! I hope you'll be able to help me with my query. Thank you.
Hi! Glad you are enjoying the videos! As for your query: You are correct in saying that a gmc registration requires a pass in both the plab 1 and plab 2 exams but that isnt necessary to obtain before applying to FY2 - just before commencing the FY2 standalone programme in August! So all you need to apply to the programme is a pass in the plab 1 and the plab 2 and gmc registration can be done after applying - before starting the programme! Hope that clears it up! :)
Yes you can apply next year - you might have to give an extra exam called the csa if you graduated medical school more than 2 years before the starting the post
Hello I would like to ask you what happens if my intership only lasts 8 months? Can I still apply for full registration or I should apply for FY1 prpvisional registration? Since all imgs can only apply for FY2 .I am from latin america PERU. Thank you very much!
This should guide you - www.gmc-uk.org/registration-and-licensing/join-the-register/before-you-apply/check-if-your-practical-training-internship-is-acceptable You will have to apply for provisional internship and fy1 I think
Hello, Aren't we required to give plab2 and get gmc registration before entering into fy2standalone or non training job's? Can I know, Why is it mentioned in the table that plab1 results should be ready by jan1? Thankyou
You should have plab 1 prior to fy2 applications you can give plab 2 after applying - before starting the job For non-training you need everything ready
Hi, this is a very useful video, thank you very much for that. I have completed my internship outside the UK, still I want to apply for FY1, so is it possible or do I only have the option of FY2? Thank you in advance!
Hello ! I have a doubt that in my gap year , while preparing for plab 1& 2 , so as to explore a little if I work a while ( without getting paid) in a hospital , will it b acceptable to gmc ? Or my passport will b seen and I will be declared non eligible ?
I have a question : what do you mean by internship? Does it mean foundation years in my country? Or after I finish my foundation years and work as a doctor?
Thanks for the great video, but I want to ask if there are any age limitations for the FY2 and also what's the max gap year allowed (roughly) between the internship and applying for the FY2?
There's no age limit and no max gap! You can apply at whatever age and after any number of years out of medicine it just depends on what you were doing and if you kept up with medicine with research projects, work and education in the meanwhile!
@@IMGMarvels so is it possible to apply for F2 standalone if I completed my pre-graduate 12 months internship then another year of service HO job at my home country or I’d be overqualified?
Hello, I am currently studying Mbbs in Ukraine. I Would like to know, do I need to apply for FY1 or can apply for FY2 directly after completing the internship in Ukraine.
Hi Dr, I don’t have internship and have 4 year gap (I was clearing Canadian exams during that time) can I still secure fy1 position given the long gap? I was also working as a clinical assistant during that time. Thanks
Hello mam ur videos r very beautifully explained really love them i just had a query concerning my situation i have graduated last yr and have done internship whcih completed in the april this yr now i m preparing for oet will this covid period n the gap till next yr until i complete my plab exams, effect my job hunting??
Hi im glad you like the videos! A gap is completely understandable in this situation - the best thing would be to use this gap wisely to give exams and also build you portfolio/cv You can check out our video on that here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0A-TFGstlI0.html Till you remain in contact with medical research/education in your gap - it shouldnt put you at much of a disadvantage
Great question! Here is the official UKFPO faqs on that! This should make it clear! foundationprogramme.nhs.uk/faqs/educational-performance-measure-epm-faqs/
@@IMGMarvels so after fy2 can we take 3-4 months leave? I need to travel in those 3-4 months. On a tier 2 visa I know we cannot stay out of UK for more than 180 days. But I just needed a 3-4 months leave and that's less than 180 days.
so ill be applying for the FY1 2022 after graduating in february of 2021 the question i had was the eligibility document states that those that have gap of >2yrs since graduating must give the Clinical Assessment test ( i.e normally id would be exempt from it ) but i read on SavvyIMG that the CSA is for those who have not completed their internship as well as those graduating >2yrs( i cant apply to FY1 if i have completed my internship) according to the eligibility document im exempt as i dont fall into that timeline but savvyIMG added this other condition just wanted to know if its true? i have written UKFPO an email regarding this but no response
I think thesavvyimg meant was that if you havent completed your internship + taken a gap of more than 2 years you must give the CSA :) so you wont have to give it in your situation :) hope that clears it up! Best of luck!
@@faizanalvi3932 haha dont stress! We are here to help guide you as best as we can! Thankyou for your support! Share with anyone you think could also benefit :)
I do a 10 month internship before graduating, after which I get my medical degree. Since it seems my internship wouldn't be accepted by the GMC I would have to do F1 and F2 right?
I ask since I will be graduating with a full licence to practise, and I've been told that in that case I wouldn't be able to join F1... But I wouldn't be able to do F2 either because my internship isn't elegible
@@abbabbicola2748 Hi this is a unusual case and could swing either way or you might be deemed ineligible for either of FY1 or FY2 - id recommend contacting the GMC about this maybe through the chat feature on their website and speak to someone
@1.30 That is not true. There is FY1 NON Training post or Trust Grade FY1 post. I have done internship at home and have full GMC reg with LTP. And I have been offered a FY1 Trust Grade job
Hello Dr Mavilka, I understand you are an RCSI graduate going to the UK. I have offered a place in Leicester for FY1 this year so I just would to know for “Knowledge of English” part in UK visa process, how did you do? 1) Did you verify your degree with ecctis or UK naric that degree is solely taught jn english 2) Did you sit PLAB or IELTS? 3) Did you have any other alternative routes
What do you mean by dont do internship.. even like for 3 months ? Like. Not a whole year.. bec i want to be familiar with the procedures like catheter, blood withdrawal, sutures, etc before coming to uk to have fy1 so im thinking if taking 3-6 month of internship in my country then fy1 in uk , or i shouldnt take anyyyy internship and start from zero?
Hu! these videos are super helpful, but I have a question that I'm hoping you can answer: I graduate April 2022, and internship starts may 2022. I was wondering if it would be possible for me to do 3-6 months of internship and still apply to the ukfpo program? (I know fulll registration is 12 months and I am not planning on doing that)
Hey love your videos. I have a question. I’ll graduate in January 2022. So I’ll have to apply for the FY1 positions of August 2023. I’m thinking of doing an internship from sept 2022- sept 2023 BUT NOT FINISHING IT if I get a FY1 position in 2023. Would I still be eligible for 2023 FY1?
Hello, I wanted to ask if a pre-graduate internship (which is required in some medical schools to get a complete medical degree) also considered an internship? To be more clear can people with a pre-graduate internship apply for provisional registration?
In most cases, a pre-graduate internship is considered an internship and you will only be able to apply to a full registration (this depends on the gmc's internship criteria on their website)
What if you studied medicine abroad but did not do any internship or house job in your local country after completing your medical degree abroad (outside your local country, and not UK) but traveled to UK to study Masters and to do PLAB exams in UK? Will this be a challenge? What can one do while in UK to make up for the lack of medical exams and lack of internship experience in your local country? Which of the foundation year programs (btw FY1 or FY2) would he need to do since he didn't take any medical exam in his local country (Nigeria) or internship prior to the completion of his medical undergraduate studies in Ukraine (outside Nigeria)? - Does he need to do both FY1 and FY2? - Pls how long does it take to complete either Foundation year (FY1 and Fy2) programs?
The internship can be started on a tier 2/tier 4 visa He'll have to apply for FY1 if there was no internship in his medical degree Yes you have to do FY2 if you start at FY1 level
@@IMGMarvels does this mean that if an International medical graduate who does not have any internship experience anywhere but comes to UK as an international student can still do internship in UK (after writing PLAB exams) before the Foundation year programs?

Hi that basically means that you will have to sit at home/travel/do something else for a year while you wait for the FY1 programme to start the year after
Very informative thank you very much ❤️ I have done my 12 months clerkship (minimum of 3 months in medicine and surgery as required by the GMC), but we have patient interactions for only a couple of months, due to the pandemic rest of the rotations were online simulation. So do I get FULL GMC registration? I cannot find anything regarding this on the website. Please help if u can Thank you 😊
The best way to get an accurate answer for COVID-19 circumstances is to contact GMC as certain situations may be accommodated. They have agents on WhatsApp, Facebook messenger, live web chat if you’re unable to call or text them. Hope you find your answer soon! Good luck :) www.gmc-uk.org/contact-us
Hi we are glad you liked the video and found it helpful! In your situation I think it would be best to contact the gmc on their online chat box and ask - you will probably not be eligible for full registration due to the online internship and can apply for FY1
Are you from philippines? Didnyou get an answer to this? I contacted GMC regarding this same issue and they told me my clerkship will not be acceptable. :(
@@medicalaspirant2416 but I contacted them in december last year. Don't take my word for it. I highly suggest you contact them yourself. They may have changed their policy now 😊
I am going to complete my graduation in 2022 June without internship. can i apply for FY1 in July and give my PLAB exam in September in my home country ? If we apply in July in which month exactly are we going to join in hospital? After passing PLAB can we give PLAb 2 and while doing FY1? And thank you for sharing the info :-)
Yes so you can apply to FY1 in July 2022 and you will start in August 2023 - as I mentioned every IMG applying for fy1 has to inevitably take a gap year - in this gap year you must complete plab 1 and plab 2 and the SJT exam by the deadline that the UKFPO gives - you must have passed the plab 1 and plab 2 to get gmc provisional registration before starting FY1
@@IMGMarvelsSo in that gap year apart from giving PLAB 1 and 2 can i go to hospital in my local country and serve as an intern? As per the given rules i should not do right? We can't sit whole year doing nothing but giving 3 exams

Does working 1 yr after F2 in a non training job will make me over eligible for speciality training? I mean is it mandatory to apply for speciality training right after completing F2 level job??Actually I want to apply for a surgical speciality training so I need some time to make my cv competitive and I want to continue a non training job.
Hi you need to check the person specifications for the surgical speciality that you want to apply to and choose your FY2 non-training job accordingly - it is possible to. work after without getting over qualified
