EN: [RE-UPLOAD] from the Channel "Chuck Owl" and there is this: DISCLAIMER: This interview was taken from the "Timeless Voices" series available on the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association).
An absolute LEGEND. With him, Hartmann and Barkhorn, they wiped out over 900 enemy planes. I just try to put that into perspective ... nothing will ever come any close to that military achievement.
I have always found it impossible to not respect him as a professional and like/admire him as a human being. He was very lucky to have survived the war and he was very smart and skilled to have survived the war. Incredibly intelligent man - and not to mention one hell of a fighter pilot. May he RIP.
Also a very Fulfilling life.Pilot friends all over the world after the war. California a couple times a yr.And like you said just surviving the war after a bunch of crashes after shoot downs,a pow as well.God was shining down on him.Indeed a wonderful human being. And lived till I think 92 yrs old!
Had the pleasure of meeting him on two occasions. Nothing but a completely polite and courteous gentleman, and I was a young pony tailed musician, fighter plane fanatic at the time.
Still impressive and touching to realize Günther Rall's first combat took place over Metz (N/E of France) my home place and the sky I am still used to flying in
Shorty Rankin of the 56FG in a P-47 was the last man to shoot him down, and in the process, shot off hisw left thumb. You can see it is missing in the video.
One sees (the high scores/tallies in Russia) and many historians say they were “easy” kills..this is simply not the case. Also..remember..Allied airmen were given Tours..once completed..one could finish (for example watch Memphis Belle) However..with German pilots..they flew until (quite literally) they dropped.. There was one book I read about German fighter pilots and one certain ace had had many victories but was eventually overwhelmed by American fighters..his wingman stated as he watched helplessly as he was shot down and killed..” ....I saw him turning and twisting...but then it just seemed as though he gave up..”
...but sometimes..that wily fox gets away...GUNTER RALL...An inspiration..and also I believe an officer and a gentleman (he liked being called that in England didn’t he!) plus...a LEGEND and man of significant historical aviation history and importance. May he, his victims and others of all nations and arms that died (during and after) this most brutal of wars..Rest In Peace
Harz to Stuttgart is an incredibly vast amount of air space to be filled with allied bombers the destruction caused upon ground is beyond one's imagination and to consider the bombing upon Germany was continual 24/7 is a surprise that anyone survived either military or civilian.
My grandfather did his best to shoot down down the bombers. My Mom was straffed by a P38. As a young girl, she stood behind a telephone phone to escape death.
@@jonbutzfiscina1307 The realities of war are never one sided and Allied aimed indiscriminately purposely targeting the civilian populace although of course this is something they deny yet the fact remains as again the history is written by victor and propagandists embellish the history to suit.
Yes I agree. In 1990, I met a Hungarian paratrooper from WW2. Towards the end of the war, he was helping a long colom of civilians westward to escape the Soviets. Despite large red crosses on the few trucks they had, they were continually straffed by American planes. They took refuge in a train tunnel. I wish I could remember the town he told me where this happened.
@@jonbutzfiscina1307 , sure hospital's emblazoned with the red Cross were also targeted , drove past one I think in France where driver exclaimed 'Hospital,no problem bomb allies,no matter' and I spoke to a friend's mother who being a child in Berlin at war's end was in tears trying to describe the situation with the Soviets to the local populace whilst visiting friends near to Goslar.
The effectiveness of the German pilots in the 2 World War, as well as the fortitude to fight a coalition of countries whose potential was many times greater than the capabilities of Germany, is amazing! Craftsmanship is not drunk - it is laid down in the people! The stupidity of the leadership of the United States and England to side with the USSR, due to the resources of which the Western countries pulled the enemy out of the loop, which still threatens the existence of the entire Western civilization, is also striking. Only Churchill's pathological hatred of Germany and the Germans led to a world war in which the British won the battle but lost the empire! Only Churchill was responsible for the fact that the countries of Eastern Europe and part of Germany turned red for as much as 45 years! It follows from this that Hitler was less of a threat to the West than Stalin, which is what we have today!
And remember, the UK shipped 20 Nene jet engines to Russia after WW2 for civilian use. By copying those engines and using German technology they gave us the Mig15. And the USA isn't clean either.
So true mate, Churchill literally never gave any inkling as to anything but the destruction of Germany. In regards to the Blitz, people are not aware it was Harris and Churchill that ( going against any type of morality / Geneva Convention )were the first to decide to bomb innocent civilians on mass. I would call it truly evil the pact the Allies made with Stalin. Anyway, just thought you made a very rare ( honest ) but factual comment.
@@simonvirus6417 Dear, I am glad that you share my point of view regarding the role of the Parties in the 2 World War. It amazes me that they don’t talk about this out loud, although everyone knows that immediately after the end of the war, Stalin began to fulfill his conceived plans to turn the rest of Europe into his field of influence and in some countries very successfully - these are left (red) movements in France and Italy, but the benefit of the United States did not allow this red infection to spread. Today we see the continuation of this aggressive policy, but from Putin's Russia and the continuation of expansion to the former colonial outskirts of the USSR. The lessons of the resistance of the Ukrainian people and the help of the Western alliance of countries is a copy of what Stalin did immediately after the war. That's why I said that England and the United States fought on the wrong side from 41 to 45 years. Only the defeat and collapse of Russia itself will turn Europe into a peaceful space.
My Grandfather was in the 42nd, Let the Communists out of Dachau, would never speak to me he died when i was 18, the VA kept him doped up on Psyc pills, I found out he mowed down 522 unarmed Germans at the Labor camp. Not a very brave act, but i did love him he was my Grandfather
Really? Woow. Yes, I can remember, some months ago someone in the IL-2 Forum wrote he has one book of Rall for sell. And that there would be even a sign from him in it. I did not knew that every had a sign from him.
try also Heinz Knocke's and definitely Lipfert books. They are must read. I am lucky enough to have also read romanian's Dobran journal (lt, 10 confirmed). Fantastic reading, sadly only available in romanian... Also Closterman;s The Great Show for allied perspective.
I have his 'My Logbook.' Yes it is autographed. It was for me a "necessary expense."😉 At a art signing for a Robert Taylor release he autographed my copy of Steinhoff's book 'The Final Hours'(which Steinhoff signed after that) and also my copy of The Blond Knight of Germany. Prized possessions of mine.
