Hi friends, unfortunately I'll be rescheduling my live stream tomorrow since I've come down with the flu. Luckily I think the worst of it is behind me, but y'all really don't need to hear me coughing / clearing my throat every 30 seconds 😅 See you next Sunday, May 28th at 10:00 am EST!
I find the girl’s writing styles really reflect their public personas. Minnie’s songs are very ethereal, with a mystic magical quality to them. They are often about feelings & deep emotion. Yuqi is much rawer. He songs are grittier & heavily rock influenced. She often uses physical metaphors, energetic & playful. Then you have Soyeon who can combine everything. She’s high energy, punchy, powerful & confident. But always with deeper meaning & a message.
I Feel... ugly (allergy) I Feel... brautiful (Queencard) I Feel Lucid I Feel happy (All Night) I Feel in love (Paradise) I Feel like myself (Peter Pan)
When asked about Lucid and the meaning behind it, Minnie said something about "the feeling you have when dreaming" but also said that if we want to come up with our own interpretations, we are more than welcome to do so... Alright Minnie, we see you 😉😉
Minnie is literally the best in writing "pretty" songs. Dahlia and Escape are good examples so now that you loved paradise (which btw is my favourite song on the album too!) i'm excited for you to get to their other albums as well and see more from Minnie and Yuqi.
Allergy + Queencard is an absolutely fascinating combo. Allergy points out the problem of social media comparison, and expresses the pain of not being able to measure up to that perfection. Queencard reframes what beauty is---sure, you can get fancy clothes, have a hot body and a pretty face... but it's your confidence and your intrinsic qualities that make you beautiful. "Even the prettiest people have problems." --- Yeah, I've seen a couple reactors chuckle at the notion of beautiful Soyeon being an ugly nerd because they gave her glasses, but that's not the point... even though we see her as pretty, from her perspective, SHE feels she isn't beautiful. In her eyes, she feels she isn't enough. We see glimpses of it with the other girls too in Allergy. Shuhua/Yuqi think they have it all together, then they get to the party and are surprised to see more glamorous women. Yuqi gets insecure that her bestie will leave her for cooler people. Miyeon gets dumped and thinks it's because she's not pretty enough. Minnie has it all, but she's lonely. We all struggle with it, and the ending captions of Queencard imply that it's natural and okay to feel these things. One thing you might've missed---During Queencard, Soyeon is imagining herself as the other girls while she's unconscious... particularly, Minnie, since Minnie in these MV's is the most popular girl. It's why Soyeon's wearing the same outfits and you see her switched in/out. By the time the outro happens, Soyeon has imagined what it's like to be a Queencard and somehow realizes that confidence is what makes you beautiful, and immediately wakes up. Then it's revealed that she actually did go to a party the night before, and the texts/DM's confirm what she learned for herself.
@@laurenclaire Allergy should be watched first, but no biggie... It was interesting to see someone react to the two MV's in reverse order. I'm surprised that they didn't put Allergy as Track 1 on the album. I Burn had Hann (Alone in Winter) lead into Hwaa, so I figured Allergy would've done the same in this. But such a fun concept. From the album versions, Nevies thought this would be an Alice in Wonderland concept. Soyeon hasn't confirmed it, but I can totally see the 'Through the Looking Glass' plot beats loosely inspiring these two MV's---Alice ponders what it's like on the other side of the looking glass, goes there, becomes a queen in her own right, realizes it's not that great, and then wakes up from the dream.
It's just Title tracks always come first on the album. That's why they released Allergy a few days prior and labeled it as a pre-release. So people could follow the storyline.
Title tracks are almost always first unless there's an intro song. But they did release Allergy MV first so a lot of people were able to watch in the correct order by default.
Always love hearing your thoughts on IDLE! Having watched Allergy before Queencard, the 'I feel you' at the end of the MV hit different 🤧 Also I appreciate that you put yourself out there, fought your insecurities and included the photo of you without makeup (your husband is right btw ❤). That goes to show how even superficially silly songs can have a deeper impact, I think. My favourite song of the album is Lucid but Queencard has become my pick-me-up song when I feel down. Little fun fact: in the Korean lyrics it's "kwin ka"most of the time, which apparently is early 2000s slang for it girl/ pretty girl
Minnie's songs were my favorites. And yes, she is my bias, so I am... well, biased, but she became my bias for a reason. The songs she writes/produces always have this ethereal feel that I love. But overall, I loved this entire album.
My thoughts of the girls as composers are like this. Minnie as a songwriter that likes to be artistic with her lyrics and composes very indie-like music to go along with it. They often have a dreamy quality to them, which... yeah it's Minnie. You can say her songs have a lot of substance, but sometimes they don't have as strong as a hook as the other composers in the group. Meanwhile Yuqi is in-your-face with hooks, but her lyrics are just sort of there to paint the picture to get you to the hook. She also dabbles in composing as well, and usually has strong poppy music to go with her songs. Now both Minnie and Yuqi also like making ballads, and I feel Minnie is probably better at this because her dreamy style fits well with that, but Yuqi pulls from emotion so while Minnie can be flowery, Yuqi gets straight to the point. This is why I think when Minnie and Yuqi work together they make a Half-Powered Soyeon, lol. Minnie with her stronger lyrics, and Yuqi with her great sense of creating ear-worm choruses have made a good combo in the past. Speaking of the Queen, Soyeon is all about word-play, double meanings, and themes. She also loves experimenting with genre, so you can't really tie her down to one thing sound wise. She puts a lot of herself (and her members) into the songs she writes so nearly all of them come from a personal place. (Allergy was based on her own experiences during her trainee days, and Queendom is based on Yuqi's self confidence) As for Miyeon, she does have writing a credit on her solo album (the song is "Rain" and Yuqi composed it), but I think it's too hard to tell what sort of writer she is based on just that. It's a standard ballad that actually might be nice for a K-Drama, but I wouldn't say it stands out in anyway other than Miyeon's great voice. She's said in many interviews that writing was very difficult for her and that she admired the others for being so good at it. I think her lyrics are fine, but it's not going to change the world, you know? Shuhua surprisingly does have a writing credit of sorts. She "wrote" a song called "G-ah G-ah" for the variety show "Comeback Seminar". It's sort of a playground song you'd make up as a kid. It's basically singing about the things the members like, about not wearing make up, and going to bed early. Miyeon "composed" it with a plastic toy recorder, Yuqi and Minnie were dance choreographers, and Soyeon was the MV director and created the show's logo with a colored pencil drawing. It's all very funny, but point is Shuhua did actually write a song that was recorded (on a phone) and used as intro to a webseries. So it counts...kinda.
My friend, I laughed out loud when the passage about Shuhua came out. I actually am curious if she ever wants to write in Chinese if Korean is too difficult for her to write poetically. Miyeon, I wonder if she would ever compose too because she learned midi before. But I think what you said about producer line is true, Minnie’s songs (maybe sans blow your mind) is very unique and very pretty in terms of lyricism and melody, while Yuqi’s kind of alternative rock style. I wonder if it’s related to their main instrument being Minnie is piano and Yuqi is guitar. And Soyeon… I really don’t know how she does it all. But she has made hits upon hits and none of it is repeated genre.
It's awesome that they all bring something different to the table as songwriters, would be great to hear songs from Miyeon and Shuhua (if they're interested 😊)
Minnie wrote Paradise for Soojin. In the behind the recording Minnie keeps saying that she feels like she's going to cry. The connection between all these girls is unmatched.
In my feel mini album. Allergy and Queencard, Both are Soyeon in the past and present. Allergy, Soyeon use her exprerince in Produce101, Unpretty Rapstart and Teenage girl that she is mentor. And Soyeon siad her feeling at that time in Cosmopolitant Korea. For the inspriration of Queencard MV, she got from the movie 'I feel pretty' and also her member 'Yuqi' who much more confidence and bluffing, and then Miyeon said this song is her personality.😂😂😂 Lucid lyric remind to Minnie's intro Latata in Thai in the Queendom, it's a bit beguile to the mysterious dangerous but seductive for exploring. They may talk to gerneral audiance get into their songs and they will not regret then be the Neverland forever. All night, Let's fun together. Yuqi fool us in the intro sound like her habit 😂😂😂. And the instrument is belong to Yuqi. Paradize, is Neverland that is the oasis for them. And this song is Minnie's signature vibe. And Peter pan is them and talk about their feeling. the vibe of song is their personality and behavior in off stage. I'm very love it. I think all Neverland will love this song cause of we're Neverland. Minnie also say sorry in Thai in this song 'Kho Tod Na Ka'.❤... This song remind me to 'Smile' that Soyeon rap in Produce101.
I just came across your channel looking up Gidle I feel album reaction. I have to say you have the most beautiful eyes i had ever seen. Those angel eyes ❤
Thank you for this reaction ❤ my favorite is Paradise or Lucid! There is something about Minnie songs that are my vibe but EVERY single song I the album is soooo good along with all the other idle songs 💜 also don’t get me started in the perfect lyrics and messages!
Also, I couldn't finish the reaction yesterday because I was drowning in writing class homework, but I couldn't agree more on Paradise. It's also my favorite because it's just so dreamy and sweet in a wholesome kind of way.
In a world with google... she decided to react to Queencard first. Sigh... And she has a Patreon too. She wants your money. Seems like doing the minimal to earn it isn't on the menu.
I totally understand where your perspective is coming from, so I'm happy to clarify! I intentionally don't look things up to avoid spoilers so that there's more of an element of surprise and the reaction is more fun, then conduct my research after the fact. It's a calculated risk, and obviously it was an issue this time, so apologies! I suppose when the Allergy MV came out vs. when the Queencard MV came out could have tipped me off too, so again, sorry for missing that. As for my Patreon, this channel is my hobby and I don't make any money (I've actively -lost- money, lol, even with my Patreon), since 90% of my videos can't be monetized. I make videos because I love K-pop, interacting with the community, and bringing people joy with my reactions. All the equipment, software, and production costs add up, so Patreon makes it affordable to continue. Appreciate your feedback and I'm always open to constructive criticism! So if there's anywhere where you feel like I could improve, please let me know, since I always want to provide the most authentic and engaging reactions possible 😊
@@laurenclaire Honestly you shouldn't apologize to this comment, you've done nothing wrong. This is your channel, you can do things your way. And it's perfectly fine to try and make money online doing things you love. This comment's criticism wasn't constructive and they don't deserve your kind answer imo. Anyways, love your channel, great vid, and get well soon!
my take on the pd styles since i never die is like soyeon: eclectic, in charge of charismatic (songs) minnie: passionate, in charge of dreamy (songs) yuqi: lively, in charge of cute (songs) =)
In Queencard chorus it sounds like their pronounce 'Queencard' weirdly, but I learned they actually sing "Kwinka", which is Korean slang meaning hot or popular girl. Another Soyeon's nice little details.
I like Lucid, All night and also Peter Pan that's seem to be Idle's personality and behavior that I love. See their interview, I'm sure you like them more.
