Duke was supposed to die in this movie but when Optimus Prime died in transformers the movie it was decided that duke was in a coma instead then recovered.
I like how this song was starting off with Cobra sort of taking some of the spotlight in the first part and then you hear the G.I Joe theme a few minutes its like "Fuck you Cobra we arrived" YO JOE!!!!!
2:16 "G.I. Joe is the codename for America's daring highly trained special mission force. It's purpose: To defend human freedom against COBRA, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world."
My company unit name was Cobra. Mechanic in the middle of Company full of medics. Everytime we scream out Co~~~bra~~~~ in formation I could not stop giggling for shit. Attack attack Retreat retreat circling my head during every formation.
I know I'm really nerdy for it, but this song still gets me pumped up every time I hear it. I suddenly remember why I bought the toys and pretended I was a GI Joe...
I just got done helping my dad move out of our old house and I found a whole chest of all the VHS tapes and this dvd and most importantly all the toys he had as a kid that were passed to me I had never been so happy this series is truly one of the greatest to ever exist
The tv versions of GiJoe's theme some were PERFECTION. Yet somehow they topped it for the movie. Damn. It is so earnest and creative. What a performance. Does anyone do this anymore?
The very concept of the movie/TV theme is going away and I still say it's one of the things that's actually hurting said industry. Not the "woke", not "forced diversity"... Far more simple. Seriously, a theme helped give a show its very identity! Helped set the pace and feel and was like a primer for the viewer. I swear, I could do a full essay on what a theme brings in and of itself!
never had the original cartoon series as a kid but i had the movie on dvd and the toys. still go around singing and humming this song lol and im British but gotta love the US patriotism

I remember dreaming this song in the background, too. The problem was I was a Cobra Commander who had unknowing became a sane normal person, which meant he was no long the commander, but a guy having a nightmare based on bad memories.
there was some old rock /metal band with song (be like gi joe ) , someting about this tv series but i cant find it .Thi music was fast ang great and cant find it :(
@KrazyKupo You make a very astute observation in a very elegant understated way. True. People have become so mundane and un-magical that investing whole heartedly in a fantasy to make it come to life is beyond most "artists" In the 80's NO ONE was scared to go hard and make it happen. The passion the performers have performing this theme with song really has no "modern" precedent. Shameless fearless unapologetic make-believe. AWESOME.
80s GI Joe movie casting if it would have come out that decade. Bruce Willis - Duke Carl Weathers - Heavy Duty Linda Hamilton - Scarlet Arnold Schwarzenegger - Destro Bruce Lee - Storm Shadow
No, Really? 'Cause I didn't already fucking notice that voice Actors for Cliffjumper, Optimus Prime, Frenzy/Rumble, and Hound were voicing GI Joe characters
I didn't grow up with this version of G.I. Joe but instead I grew up on the classic G.I. Joes (the 1990s classic 1/6th scale figures), though I do love G.I. Joe but I prefer the more military classic line than the action adventure kind.
Between G.I. Joe the Move and The Transformers the Movie, I liked the Transformers movie better. Mostly because of Cobra-La in G.I. Joe. The intro sequence with this song, I liked!
The Transformers film is indeed better but both are still entertaining and miles better than their live action adaptations so far sans Bumblebee. That film was pretty good for the most part.
Cobra Commander was the most developed character in this show. I wish he could have made peace with the Joes and the American way of life, but he had to be like a Left-Wing Politician and crave world domination. At least he did what was right in the end, fighting Serpentor's snake and wrestling it off of Falcon.
This song featured as the ending credits on the UK version of G.I Joe (Action Force). Have to say I preferred the Action Force version simply because G.I Joe seemed far too obnoxious with its "only America can save the world" pathos. It was still the same cartoon, just with the patriotism turned down a few notches.
SalamiShowdown Gi Joe wasn't just based off American's! It was based on several different figures from around the world who just joined America's Fighting force!
SalamiShowdown Hate to rain in on your parade, mate but G.I. Joe was based off of American WWII soldiers who were often nicknamed G.I. s (government issued) or just simply "Joe"; and fyi we did kinda saved the world back then :D
+Derek Bates Hate to rain on _your_ parade, but GI Joe was actually started in the 1960's to tame the anti-Vietnam vibe everyone was spouting. Kinda made for manipulative reasons, yeah, but they were still really good. G.I. Joe referred to the main character of the series, Joseph Colton, who appeared in the 1960's comic series and later made a return in the 1980's for a couple of the comics. In a later version, he's known as _"General Colton."_ They're named after WWII vets, but they were made because of Vietnam.
Zedan Borrie Where'd you learn that, Wikipedia? G.I. Joe's origins go back to WW2; in fact, it is believed he was based off of a real soldier who held off an entire Japanese platoon with a machine gun, while his squad was wounded. It helps to be an avid History Channel fan, way back when it meant something.
Because they won't embrace what G.I. Joe is, a cartoon based off of action figures, they want to try too hard to make it into a dramatic action movie instead of something corny and fun.
I theorize it's because nobody in the project really has a clear idea or direction with what they want to do, just the desire to make money. So they look at all the trends in action movies and film making in general and tried to make something they felt would capitalize on all that. Trying to pitch a movie that would be like a live action version of cartoon/action figures fighting grand scale battles with lasers and a tongue and cheek sense of humor would never fly with execs.
