G.P. Telemann Viola Concerto in G major 1. Largo 2. Allegro 3. Andante 4. Presto Stephen Shingles, Viola by Antonio Casini, Modena 1660 Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Sir neville Marriner, Conductor Rec.: 1975
Thank you for sharing this. I love Telemann and I think this recording brings out his affection for the viola. The violist shows a richness and warmth for the Telemann's work.
Beautiful! Original instruments and all that have their place, but I personally feel that if G.P.T. came back to life today, he would prefer this performance of his beautiful work with our more expressive modern instruments! I know the purists are going to launch an attack on my heresy, but I'll be sticking to my guns!
I absolutely hate the “original instruments” and “HIP proponents”, modern instruments have a different sound that will never be matched, and I dont care what the HIP mafia says
Love this rendition, although I also love the smaller more intimate offerings of say, the post by 'Academia Bach' more gentle & of the period...yet some days the more spirited & fiery 'martellato' also goes well as this Excellent Neville Marriner version. (Thank you Ria- it looks like this might be quite an old recording.)
In fact this sounds like an old man putting in powder on his wig. Telemann would have been horrified! Thank goodness there are so much better groups playing this now!
