I grew up in poverty always dreaming of playing an instrument but of course that was an impossible dream. Now that I am an older adult and still struggling financially, my dream is still intact. I have been able to take some music lessons with the transverse flute and I am currently teaching myself to play the soprano recorder... only to re-affirm this is the world I wish I could belong too. Music just takes me to a whole different dimension. It makes me cry. It makes me happy. It's soothing to my soul. I've been watching a lot of these videos. Just phenomenal...! This is like having direct communication from heaven!

Good on you !! You'll get there. My life was very similar I grew up poor and lived on my own from the age of twelve. After years of drug addiction and unemployment I am now doing better. I started saxophone at 24, I'm only 27 now but already doing very well on tenor sax. Chronic pain and loneliness trys to rob me of my achievements but it will never succeed as I am born to play music and will not except a life without it. Much love and good luck to you !! The more Telemann I hear, the more I think he is monstrously underrated. And what a lovely performance this is.
@nikosstr7908

To be honest, his music is much too subtle to stand out. Although his chalumeau pieces are pretty experimental for the era and paved the way for classical and romantic clarinet composing.

@BacaOConnell
@BacaOConnell 4 года назад
@@nikosstr7908 I agree, but his music being subtle is exactly why I love it so much. After listening to too much Bach is usually feel like a tiny ant, considering I was just listening to possibly the greatest composer of all time I personally feel that this is justified, so I need Telemann's beautiful music to remember that I am actually a person. It might just be me, but Telemann's music is just so human and comforting.
@jorgepatinomedina
@jorgepatinomedina 4 года назад
You are right. In his own time, he was more celebrated than Bach. However, when Bach (as a composer) came to the general public's attention several decades after his death, his work cast an enormous shadow over the baroque era. Obviously, it wasn't Bach's fault or intention, but it happened.

We all know that the recorder was phased out as the orchestra began to grow. But, before that happened, Telemann saw it coming and created this wonderful marriage of love between the two. It was wonderful. Again, thank you Bremer B.; you are beautiful and talented people.

@AndromedaCripps
@AndromedaCripps 6 месяцев назад
I think this is a common misunderstanding based on the written music- The elements of music we are familiar with today were all present but often manipulated in ways different from how we might expect, and often things like tone color don’t translate across the written music, and if we don’t see things in the score that are familiar to us from modern scores, then we don’t notice the elements there until they are played for us. In that vein, I’ve heard many a modern performance of baroque music (those performances uninfluenced by HIP) on modern instruments which falls utterly flat and devoid of color, due to these myths and an uninformed or unimaginative reading of the score. It’s a shame, we need more education on early music taught to our young musicians!!!

Doesn't get much better than this. The pairing of flute and its sibling the recorder is so rare - usually it's a matter of a choice of one or the other - seems to have opened Telemann's imagination in a powerful way. Their solo duets in the opening are gorgeous and mysterious; the driving edge he gives he gives to both instruments in the final movement, with its heavy droning support in the strings, is incredibly powerful, and this performance makes the most of this dimensionality. Bravo!
@Wazkaty

I love that there is no choice and both are played. As a recorder (flûte à bec) player played with flutists ("flûtiste" en français, for recorder players too), and and we can hear the breaths mixing, beyond the notes, the energy we feel is extraordinary. I LOVE it !

That was absolutely brilliant to start this work with Telemann's Fantasia 8, split between the flute and recorder!! It was like they were wistfully calling to each other, in order to participate in an intricate dance. I've played this piece on recorder, and it is impossible not to be drawn into the emotional interaction between the two winds. Bravo Bremer Barockorchester, for this intimate rendition. I play the flute and recorder as well as the keyboard (harpsichord, organ and piano). I must say that I've listened to this recording dozens of times - it makes me cry sometimes. Telemann's music is of course exquisite, but these performers raise the music to new heights. The slow movements are heart-rending, the fast movements breath-taking and exhilarating, while not taking things at breakneck speed just for the sake of virtuosity. The vihuela player - ¡que bueno! Love that Turkish March - it sounds like Telemann anticipated movie scoring. Cool stops and starts.

The key remains e minor. What is more important is its temperament, non- equal, which makes for better sounding thirds than even temperament and slightly different thirds in each key, hence each key is different and can have a 'mood' associated with it. BTW, these orchestras sometimes play in pitches other than 415, 392, 410, etc. Pitch was NOT standardized back then, see www.oldflutes.com/baroq.htm

Incredibly skillful players can make you think that - but I give all credit to the players.

Oh wow -- I love 14:35 to 14:47 -- the very brief "bagpipe-y" section!

This is a truly astounding version of the famous double Concerto! And to use the e-minor Fantasia at the Top!! Genius!! The full glorious interwoven dialogue of these instruments is beautifully explored here, so too the Polish flair & elan! Excellent version of an old favourite! ;-}

I've heard a few interpretations of this concerto, some of them perhaps even more virtuosic, but this is the one that gives me goosebumps.
