Maybe I'm airing the obvious but there is three things I would like to mention. 1. To note the differences, you require both. 2. Choosing the cheapest/or half price offer online HAS TO RAISE DOUBTS over it's authenticity. Finally; 3. Buying the required item, from a reputable company site, at the normal price is the only way to avoid the fakes.. In other words, if the deal seems too good to be true - it most probably is...
one definative method to check for a fake is the 'lcd test'. Many Gshocks at this level (that has one of the ABC functions) and four buttons (not counting the light button) has a factory lcd segment test. labeling the buttons from top left, top right, lower left and lower right as buttons A, B, C and D...in the local time mode press buttons A, C and D (as I've labeled them, not as Casio labels them) the watch will display ALL LCD segments. A press on the D button will move the test to stage 2 (smaller lcds), then D button moves to stage 3 (looks just like stage 1). Stage 4 shows a four digit number. This may be the module number or the version number (it will be close to the module number). Stage 5 displays a 3 digit number (assuming part of the version number). Another click on the D button returns the watch to local time mode. Some Gshock (high definition pixel display) watches will open menu on the sreen, using the B button select 'Basic' then scroll (buttons A and C) to MIP and select with B button this will display EVERY working pixel. FAKES do not have these functions, most fakes don't even have all the modes of a real Gshock. But, if you don't know what functions are supposed to be included with the model your looking at, try the '3 button LCD test'.
That was very helpful I have just bought a Casio GW-9500-3JF from a 100% seller in Japan on ebay & it was not cheap so I believe it is real, this was a large outlay for me but I particularly wanted the Japanese version due to it's reputation, could you please do a comparison on this watch if you can, cheers from Australia.
You totally got me with the mask, I thought it is video from this year:) Anyway the original is an incredible watch. Have been using and abusing it for three years and it still serves me perfectly. I have been having it underwater, in mud, in a freezer... I wonder how the fake one does in the freezer:p

yes it doesn't make sense to buy fake rangeman because we buy rangeman for its triple sensors. if you just need alarm time/alarm/stopwatch just buy genuine gshock with those functions only. you get more accurate time also official warranty from casio
compare mcm ni mampuih la.. masa org nak beli dari seller jenuh la bawah jam ori plak.. kalau 1st timer mmg susah dorang nak compare.. cara paling elok adalah dengan menggunakan module.. cuba kata BNB original pasang kat fake/copy tu?.. acaner? ok la compass copy ori jalan betul.. skrg dah ada compass yg bole jalan elok tau. korang try tekan Adjust + Forward dgn Lampu = bole check Multiband wujud ke tak.. ada J40 J60 etc etc.. (COPY ORI TADAK BENDA NI WOI) pastu try lagi Adjust + Mode + Reverse = SLR solar test pastu tekan Mode kluar TLT plak. tutup muka jam SLR akan keluar 8888. maknanya solar tu ok.. TLT utk tilt sensor lak.. autolight sensor.. condongkan jam.
Ada satu lagi cara I baru belajar: Tekan butang Adjust + Mode + Forward => semua dot/graphic/perkataan pada screen akan muncul. Kemudian tekan Mode => akan muncul nama city time zone yang sudah set.

I see the screws on the bezel are set perpendicular towards the display on the original, on the fake one they are quasi horizontally...just my observation.

I'm guessing that it wasn't advertised as being fake or even a copy. I recall seeing various copy items before, but were branded with a different or similar sounding name, like Ebok instead of Rebok shoes. It appears that they put a lot of work into the fake or counterfeit one, but of course they are trying to sell them and make more money off of the Casio brand name. Any suggestions to avoid buying into such a scam? Obviously the biggest would be buying from a reputable outlet or store. Thanks for sharing the information and reminding us that there are so many people out there working only to take advantage of other hard working people.
My golden rule: NEVER BUY USED. I know that's not how collecting works, but it works for me. That in conjunction with what you're saying, i.e. buy from a reputable outlet, should ensure you never have to worry. Also, a bit of research not only equips you with tons of knowledge about the watch, technical as well as visual that helps you understand the original's features and appearance, but it can sometimes also give you a chance to cool off before rushing into a disastrous impulse purchase. My 2c worth.
Be careful on sites such as amazon or ebay, lots of counterfeits. You can usually find things like watches available to purchase from the manufacturer so you know it's real. If you question the authenticity of your g shock, look up the model name (ex. GW-M 5610, the watch on his wrist in the video) and go to the official G-Shock site. View all details on the watch, and scroll to the bottom of the pop-up menu. On the bottom will be listed the weight, weigh your watch and compare. If it's off by more than just a small fraction of a gram, it's fake.
I was once on my way to work and hurrying and my Discman batteries went dead. So I saw some guy on the street selling what looked exactly like Duracell batteries and I bought a pack. Buying a pre owned GSHOCK is very tricky. There are way too many fake articles on the market/internet. And without an original to compare, it is very, very hard to recognise a fake. Not only from a Range man, but the cheaper models too. Thanks!

This is upsetting... Why are Casio's being cloned in this manor? I understand why Rolex's, Omega's, and other uber pricey time peices are - but we are talking about watches that aren't exactly affordable for common people. But thank you for putting this out, I'll have to "watch" carefully (as I am thinking of getting a Rangeman).
IMHO to see if what you bought is a fake? Check the module inside. Its certain that a real GW9400 is very different to a fake one and that is if you know what you're looking at.

I just received a brand new one and though it's 100% original, the date display is the exact same color as the rest. So keep that in mind. Mine is the late black and yellow.

the main point here, is don't buy g shock online.. cause you won't know until you see it in front of your eyes.. it's better buy it from a watch store..

Did you alter the screws on the front of the fake? I notice the original has nicely aligned screws like my own watch but the fake has screws that are not aligned nicely.

When I go swimming with my friends, I like to jump from the bridge. The bridge is about 5-6 meters high (maybe) but is tall. Which if I wear the Gw9400 to jump into water will cause the system and sensor of the watch to break? PS 1. It is the watch that the gw9400 hits with water. Shouldn't be the water pressure because it doesn't go down very deep. (I don't know, just wonder, ask the elders)
If it works it works honestly just buy from official shop. Not many people will have a magnifying glass and zoom in on your watch and say oh that's a fake. No one cares.
