In this lecture, I have discussed the classification of Dental Caries purposed by G.V.Black.
G.V. Black purposed a classification of dental caries that is most widely used and most widely accepted in most parts of the world.
This classification proposed by G.V. Black, includes 6 different classes of Dental Caries based on the location of the lesion.
I have discussed all of the six classes of dental caries and in the end, done a quick revision and overview of the entire classification.

Im glad you liked it. Yes they can occur together or alone. Then we make a cavity accordingly, to eliminate the lesions. Although this is not that common in clinical practice.

Sir if a caries occur on the buccal surface of posterior teeth it will lies in which class?

If caries occurs on the buccal surface, it will be associated with either the cervical surface, the occlusal or either of the proximal surface.

Heyy, great video! So just to be sure, when there is a lesion on the gingival third, but located on the proximal side of the teeth, is it then classified as a Class II or Class V?

Love ur ques!♥that would be class 5 cuz It's still touching the gingival 3rd! No matter what,if the caries touches any area around the periphery of gingival 3rd in case of all teeth, it should be called a 5! If it lies a lil bit above on the proximal side & exceeds the gingival 3rd area, it would be called a 2. Edit: *[ sry I had lil mistake ;) the real answer is down below :3🙏so sorry~]*

If a lesion is on the proximal side of the tooth (mesial and distal) the lesion is class II. If the lesion is on the gingival third of the facial or lingual surface, the lesion is class V. Now if a tooth has both (lesion of class V and class II on the same tooth), which is very very rare because I personally have never seen this, then this will be named as the tooth is having Class II and Class V caries. Which again is very rare (if possible at all) because caries progression doesn't allow the lesion to extend in such a way. The lesion can however involve the occlusal surface for which we have a classification. (Sorry for the earlier reply, gave it in a hurry)

Class 4 lesions are those that have involved the proximal as well as the incisal edges of the anterior teeth.

Proximal is the mesial or distal surface. Interproximal means between the two proximal surface of two adjacent teeth. Like the interproximal area between the second and 1st molar has 2mm space means that the mesial surface of 2nd molar and distal surface of 1st molar has 2mm space.

From the books that I have read. I am pretty sure there were 6 classes from the start. You can ask an Operative Dentistry specialist, they can guide you more on this.
