This is just Whoa !!! I’m 17 and discovered Plácido Domingo not so long ago, this artist is just the best 👌His voice is at the time smooth and powerful and sings with all lot passion . My favorite Singer
This is the best I have heard Placido, even if the tempos are extremelly slow, but that helped hin so he could make this very beautiful pianissimos and long phrases. BRAVO !!!
Oh, this is marvellous. The mellifluous flow of such a gorgeously round voice, so even over the whole range, so well produced, is already a rarity. What makes the rendition sensational, is the use of such a privileged instrument by a singer who is also a masterly musician, spreading out an almost infinite palette of dynamics, phrasing, rubato - in perfect accordance with Bernstein's expressive and flexible conducting. Thank you, ziropera!
In his career this is the greatest Domingo ever sang the Ingemisco (and at age 29!). Bernstein's expansive tempo and the ritardandi and rubati that he demands would have killed most other tenors.
Guys i want to tell that I've heard many versions of Ingemisco, but I prefer this one, can't explain why. Maybe it's Domingo's voice or attitude, or the orchestra, or all three, but this aria reaches your soul :)
@@gabrielstefanides5802 Indeed. It's totally Bernstein's conception and the expansive tempo, ritards and ritardandos are all Bernstein...a great challenge for the 29 year old Domingo who meets the challenge beautifully. The best Domingo ever sang the Ingemisco.
Hearing him now (and another version) makes you say "No doubt why he is one of the trinity of the The Three Tenors". Well I know how great he was through other videos.
As I recall, he did indeed; and Domingo was initially reluctant to do so , according to Schuyler Chapin's biography. Chapin wrote that Domingo, having debuted at the Met as a substitute for Corelli, didn't want to build a reputation about doing so. But apparently Chapin, somebody else, or both wore down Domingo's resistance:). I have great admiration for Domingo, but his technique has never equaled Corelli's. Note how Domingo's vibrato slows and widens in the high register and how often he seems to be driving his tone there, for example; indicating some technical imbalance. Compare Corelli's fresh, spinning sound in his prime --
I like the fact that Domingo got the job. While the whole Requiem is wonderful, Arrojo and Domingo are really the icing on the cake. Domingos smooth, accurate singing, his wonderful long legato (he is the only one who gets the Kyrie in one piece), and what can one say about his marvelous, rich, warm voice. Pure heaven, the voice for the connoissers.
Delftai66 Wubderlich is much too lyric a voice for this- I would be curious to hear it balanced with a Verdian orchestra live- but I’m so glad he did it because it’s one of the greatest voices in history. I wish he recorded the entire tenor canon- including Otello and Siegfried!
Zriter59 Escritor I would have to disagree. People think Corelli’s technique is superior only because the guy was blessed with a very high top range over Domingo, his bottoms cannot be compared to domingo and the reason why you hear this build up effect of Domingo’s singing is because his legatos are much smoother than Corelli’s who never really cared about how smooth the legatos should be, only to save all his breaths for a couple of high notes that he can shake down the theatre with, that’s not a superior technique of singing overall.
Domingo sanged much better early in his career. Here the end B-flat is thrilling and ringing. Still the phrase "in forte dextra" at 3:16-3:28 is lacking some ring. I still prefer Luciano´s 1967 recording and Bjorling´s from 1937. Domingo was secured up tíll high B-natural until around 1975 then he became vunerable when he was not in top shape.
I remember Domingo saying in an interview in those days that he had to get up every morning and "find the A again". He one of the great line of tenors in the 20th century if I may be so bold. As a singer I would have to say that any singer is vulnerable when "not in top shape".
