Fun fact: The resin prototype shown in the 1985 catalog actually did have extending arms, along with being grey and having a head more cartoon-accurate.
@@9874123dar tho I would assume there are larger individual too, like broad side and tidal wave, both of them transform into aircraft carrier (for tidal wave, that is actually just 1/3 of his altmode) Also in the transformers legends Manga, broadside is shown easily lifting metroplex and trypticon each with one hand
@@thenate5367 Nah U.K mate. I just remember having the figure for at least a week or so at Christmas then my Dad prying it out of my hands. He got me Skorponok in the January from what I recall.
Funny story. I watched this when you posted it. Today my wife and I were at a flea market. I found an Astrotrain. no gun. But all his parts were nice an solid. Stickers were alright. And I got a Swoop (not as nice shape, but still great) a Rodimus and Skullcruncher. No accessories for any of 'em. but for 20.00 I'm not going to complain.
Also, am I the only one who feels a wave of warm nostalgia to see the faction sticker activated? Heat sensitive stickers were all the rage at the time! Almost as hot as puffy stickers!
Sure, he causes confusion, but can he cause confusion AND delay? Also, regarding his alleged top speed of 400 mph in train mode, the JNR D51 (the locomotive he's based on) has a top speed of 55 mph, but WHO CARES IT'S PRECIOUS
G1 Astrotrain was one of my first Transformers ever so I'm a big fan. Still have him too. Looking forward to his new Leader Class figure in the siege line.
It’s funny, I first discovered Emgo when I watched his DX9 Chigurh review, and now I’m watching his review of G1 Astrotrain. Time really does fly doesn’t it?
I found this Guy at a second hand store. They only wanted 1 dollar for him which was chocking considering the overall shape he was in. Other than som wear on the diecast and beat up stickers i would say he was in pretty good shape. All i can say it was worth every penny
Thanks for the nostalgic trip down memory lane. A friend of mine had the purple and grey version. Was so fascinated with his transformation at the time. Isn't that version the original colour?
I had this reissue as a small child in the mid 80s so i had to pick one up.The only other reissue i have is optimus because i wanted it so bad back in the day but never got him.Optimus was a 1984 figure and i didnt start getting many figures till 1985 wave which astrotrain is,thats why astrotrain has differant box art on the back from optimus, they changed it for the 2nd (1985) wave.
Bit of a necro, but I literally just today ran across a G1 reissue of Astrotrain in Walmart. Think you could hear me squee of glee halfway across the state...
You just taut me something now. I saw your leaderclass bumblebee from transformers dark of the moon toy review and you taut me about that stealth mode transformation. I have a repaint bumblebee of transformers age of extinction and it does everything your one does. It even has the tabs of dark of the moon bumblebee. I transformed him, and I only need the weapon back pack. Anyway, love your videos!
Funnily enough, Astrotrain and Blitzwing, along with the Insecticons are some of the least valuable G1 toys from my experience. I got both complete with boxes some time ago for around $30-40 a piece. I don't know if it's because they are unpopular, or if they are extremely common. Try finding a complete Octane, Springer, Broadside, or Sandstorm for $40!
well snap I just found yesterday a G1 of this and Blitzwing. Also some 1984 Takara robots that seem to link together somehow. The little guys are red, blue and a white one and the legs and arms only move. Anyway take care and bye then.
You're certainly lucky to have the original purple version. All I have of this particular mold is that orange variant from the Platinum Edition range (same with that burgundy red Blitzwing). Still, I'm very grateful to have A version of this neat little Astrotrain figure, no matter how simple it is, and how stumpy the arms may be. A true classic, to say the least. :)
@@KrytenMark It's just small patches of black paint here and there on the legs that have chipped off. The stickers on the tailfin thing look fine though. I already replaced the Decepticon sigils on it. I got mine from a cousin who grew up with G1. He had a duplicate copy which he gave to me for Christmas years ago.
@@KrytenMark Yeah. I would like to get the Platinum Edition Year of the Rooster Optimus Prime set, the Platinum Edition G1 Insecticons set, and the Platinum Edition Autobot Intel Ops set someday.
T R A I N B O O B S Pd: one of my favorite G1s, i don't know why, he's too small, his arms are too small for his big gun, and they don't have their original colors, but i love it
