G35 COUPE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR FIX (GAS GAUGE) 

for anyone doing this make sure you open your gas cap to release some pressure before pulling the fuel line off, it will relieve a lot of pressure.

I just finished doing it again and it works now. The first time didn’t quite work it would only go to 1/3. The second time I disconnected the battery. Cleaned the fuel lines very good by dipping the Q-tips with gas and then cleaned the fuel lines. I put everything back together connected the battery and now it works fine 😁😁

Just watched this video. The reason you couldn’t get the rear seat out was because you were pulling it up from the back portion of the seat cushion. Next time, and for anyone else trying this on the coupe, only pull directly upward from the front portion of the seat cushion in the middle of the part where the back of your knees would be. Don’t try and pull the back portion of the seat forward or upward. The first time it is done is usually the hardest. You can see where the clips are located on the seat cushion in the video. Grab the vertical part of the front of the cushion near the clips. Pull straight up...hard.

My question to infinity. With so many people expressing issues &/or making repair videos, why have they not issued a recall on this obvious defective part

When you do this repair you will need to put the fuel pump and sending unit back in and disconnect the battery for a while, that will dump the memory in the fuel stabilization memory; reconnect the battery and that will establish a new normal and the gage should work normally after that.

So my 2005 g35 fuel gauge has always been acting funny. I would put a half a tank worth of gas in and it would read almost nothing with the gas light on. Pulled out passenger side rear fuel pump unit and cleaned the float sensor range with a alcohol pad on the tip of a screwdriver lightly. Put it all back together first turn on reading at half tank like it should! No more issue! Thanks! Just cleaned the passenger side only for me and it worked

Great video. I used a small pry bar to get the seat up. When I tried by hand it wouldn't budge and it felt like my back would give before the seat would. Open the gas tank. With the tank open there was almost no gas in the gas line when I removed it. Use a wrachet to remove the bolts holding the plate on.

Open the gas cap before you begin itll release alot of the pressure makes less of a mess. I fixed my daughters car by sanding down the small plastic cover over chip. I noticed the plastic around the needle was rubbing on the cover. I could see the rub marks and I tested and saw how much resistance the floaty had rubbing on the cover

This was/is happening to my g35 2005 sedan. Did the cleaning trick (w/o disconnecting the battery) and it turned out worse. Before doing the cleaning it it would go down to half then pause there for a while, but right when it was about to be empty it would shoot up to the 3/4 tank mark then shortly after shoot all the way down to the 1/8th remaining and the fuel low light would come on, so at least it was letting me know that I needed to get gas asap. After the cleaning only the top half of the tank works then it just sits at half til I run it dry (learned this the hard way the first time) so now I count miles like OP. I just went to the pick a part and got both sides fuel pump and sender from a junker and replaced them. When I was checking out the guy at the window said the trick is to d/c the battery when doing it otherwise the wires will get crossed and give the wrong signal or some shit. D/c'd the battery this time when replacing them but it doesn't look good, seems to still be holding at half tank, just filled up tho so won't know til I burn more than a half tank to find out if it works. I'm hoping a couple cycles of full tank will fix it like someone else on another forum said happened for him. I'll update if I luck out and it fixes itself. Not gonna hold my breath tho. I might start grabbing those driver side sensors out of all the junker g's and sell them online until I can afford a new car. I can't believe how much they go for online ($125-$250) insane for such a simple looking part. Junkyard only charged me $46 for both the pump and driver side sending unit ($54 w/ 1 mo. warranty on the fuel pump).

i have a similar problem, when i add some techron it will honestly read accurately for a few days (mostly when its over half) then it will go back to saying 3/4 when it really has like 1/4. I track my mileage just like you so its not a HUGE problem but i eventually wanna get it fixed, I might play with the senders and clean them soon and see what that does. Thanks for the tutorial

Thanks bro, I just bought my car and have the same problem with fuel and window. We need to file a class action lawsuit against Infiniti for those defects.. I tried to lift up that back seat and that MF is like it's glued in. But maybe I didn't pull hard enough. I might try it myself or just let my mechanic do it. And I can show him your video. It doesn't look that hard because I use to actually do transmission R&R work. Peace

I've been told when that happens replace both sending units. The z's and g35's are notorious those units going out

It's not the pump, it's not the sensor, it's the gauge, it should be a TSB but not enough people complained

My car has the window and fuel pump problem lol fixed window and I’ve learned to live with the fuel pump, I’ve cleaned and replaced it and nothing fixed it might get another cluster but for now I’m just keeping track of miles

In some cases you may have to replace the gauge cluster.

sweet to knowm I think mine went out and figured I would have to drop the entire gas tank!! mines not too bad once I hit about 280 miles my light flips on, I usually fill around 300 miles and it only fills 15.5 -16 gallons

I have the exact same G. I’ve been driving it for 11 years. Within the last 4 months; my door locks, fuel gage, airbags, cruise control, and disc changer have all broken. It’s depressing. She still drives like a charm

Discharge you fuel pressure by pulling the fuel pump fuse and starting the car until it turns off. Then disconnect the fuel pump hose.

My g coupe when I fill up for some reason wont go to the full mark but when I put just the tip of the gas pump nasal in it will go to the full after I shut the car off and turn it back on.thanks for the vid nice g by the way

My gauge said I had 30 miles til empty.. I prepaid $40 to fill up to the 16 gallon max only to find out it only took $20 reaching 10 gallons. Is this type of fix expensive to fix at an Infiniti dealership?

I have a 2006 Infiniti G35 Sedan that had the common issue with the fuel gauge not working correctly. Reads as full no matter how much I drive it. I have cleaned the sending units on the passenger and driver's side but this did nothing. There is a diagnostic test I saw online, and performed, that confirmed that my fuel gauge cluster is not the problem either. I then saw some posts in a Corvette forum about using Techron Concentrate Plus additive. Added a bottle to an almost empty tank and then filled it up and I did not have immediate results like some people said but after 200 miles of driving my fuel gauge is working properly again. The forum calls for two consecutive treatments to clean the sulfur that is in the fuel tank that causes this problem. I will be filling up again in about two days. If anyone is interested in whether this second treatment totally resolves the problem then message me. Something else from the forum also recommended only using Chevron gas stations for older cars with this problem since their fuels have this additive in it. Have a great day.

I actually had this issue with the gas sensor out of nowhere with my g35 coupe and it was so annoying but suddenly one day it worked again and has been fine ever since.

My g35 says i got gas but I never really know it goes up and down on its own all the time should I just get a replacement too ?

There are little tabs attached to the seat cushions that you pull then lift. You don't just pull the seats up and rip the clips out

I changed both sides. Gauge is still messed up. I'm waiting to run it out and see. I'm at 354 miles to this tank and it says I have a 1/4 tank left. This is messed up.

Trick, push down on seat B4 you pull on tab ..

For some reason mines works (I guess) but if I go below half a tank the hand will stop moving but it’ll lemme know it’s full once I fill it back up. Idk what that means.

Hey I just got my 05’ g35 and It’s having problems with the gas gauge . It stays marked as full when it’s not . I am unsure on witch sensor to change . Would it be the fuel pump sensor that has the fuel sending unit or would it be the fuel level sensor only ??? I was thinking it wouldn’t matter and I can put the whole fuel pump with the sending unit since it has the sensor as well ???

Regarding the seat. You have to pull up get leverage standing over the seat and literally pull the shit out of it. For real. I was worried I would break it but you won’t.

I have a check engine light on for my g35 2005, my fuel gauge hasnt worked since I got the car, and the gauge just sits at the top of the meter, my mechanic ran the computer test and said that both sensors need to be replaced, and that would turn off the check engine light which I desperately need to go off so I can get my car state inspected, any idea if that fix will turn of the check engine light?

Ive owned my g35 coupe for like 7 years, and this is the first time im fucking annoyed with it. Ive Cleaned both sender resistors, didnt fix. Replaced new fuel pump-sender assembly, also installed new driver side sender. & my gas guage is still fucked. Its most likely the instrument cluster, I have emissions in less than 2 months and im pissed with this car. Fix your broken ass Shit INFINITI.. we all love Nissan and its a fucking shame they dont recall the huge issue EVERYONE has.

Just buy a new fuel pump... not one of those cheap ones they only last 6 months to a year... your vehicle will still drive just won't know how much gas you have in there. The malfunction comes from the leveler that reads the levels of fuel in your fuel tank. Like I said just buy a new fuel pump because they come with the levellers attached.

I need help ASAP i did this and when i fill up my tank now all the gas leaks out to the bottom of the car until it isn’t full anymore. I heard something about it being a gasket anyone know the part number for the gasket?

Hey Chris 256 I ran outta gas and was stranded 3 times because of a faulty guage after I was told by mechanic the situation was fixed. I'm worried that I mighta ruined my fuel pump or fuel injectors from running outta gas so many times although the car is behaving fine when gassed up .If its fine now do u think fuel pump or injector problems could pop up later? Or did I get lucky?

I just replaced the fuel pump last night, only had 4 gallons in there. Successfully installed it, go to the gas station and start pumping........ Noticed a pool a gas under my car forming and immediately stopped 🤦 what the absolute fuck is wrong now?! My guess is that metal cap with the tiny screws isn't sealing properly and there is a rubber band under it that I noticed was over stretched. That band helps keep it from leaking. So my guess is, that metal plate isn't sealing properly so when I put fuel in, it gets to the top, comes out and drips down and finds an escape hole somewhere and drips on the ground. But seriously wtf man!
