I'm thinking for an amusing comparison of Segovia's right hand being in an almost opposite position! I've seen people curving the right hand but Bianco's seems to be curved more. Maybe it's an optical illusion and I'm just noticing the absence of tension in his right forearm. His arm is really resting on that guitar. Thank you very much for the lesson!
You're not imagining things; Bianco's right-hand position is noticeably different from most others. His wrist is lower and closer to the top of the guitar, and his hand is rotated slightly so that, rather than his palm facing directly down towards the top of the guitar, it is facing somewhat towards the neck. His wrist is so low that there is actually an upward angle from his wrist to his big knuckles-- you can see it clearly at 0:43. Usually that plane is flat or even angled downwards. One of the reasons most guitarists avoid this kind of position is because it is very difficult to make contact with the string with the thumbnail if the wrist is too low. With a low wrist, the thumb is parallel to the strings, making it difficult for the thumbnail to contact them, because the fleshy part of the thumb gets in the way. One way around this is to engage the tip joint of the thumb, bending the thumb to bring the thumbnail closer to the string. You can see David Russel using that technique sometimes, however guitarists are generally taught to play from the "big knuckle" (which, on the thumb, is the one close to wrist). The other, more common solution is to raise the right-hand wrist. With the right wrist raised, the thumb approaches the string at roughly a 45-degree-angle, making it easier for the nail to make contact with the string. Yet another solution, which is somewhat rarer, is to do what it seems like Bianco has done, which is to rely on a certain type of thumbnail shape. Bianco's thumbnail is long and curved, and shaped in such a way that he can still contact the string with the nail while maintaining a low wrist position. As for the rotation, it means that the fingernails are in contact with the strings for a longer amount of time, and results in a "caressing" motion rather than a "plucking" motion. Giulia Ballare has a similar right hand position to Bianco's; low wrist, with the palm angled slightly toward the neck. However, her thumbnail is not long and curved like Bianco's, and so we can see that she has to engage the tip joint of the thumb in order for the nail to make contact with the strings.
