This the song that pulled me through my final surgeries - married to a sociopath I picked the worst time to get really sick. But I survived him, and the illness, the surgeries, the debts he ran and left me with ... and I built a wonderful productive and wholesome life for myself. You are stronger than you know. Hang on, don't forget to breathe, eat well, sleep well, aim for the light, be kind .... and remember *'this too shall pass'*.
Turns out I loved every Gabrielle song growing up as a teen - I'm not sure of what I was going through... I'm in my 30s now, and these songs bring so many memories with my ear against our Technics hifi trying to memorise the lyrics.
The "I'm ready to move on from that bad relationship or experience" song. It's one of those hidden gems that was buried in my head but makes so much sense now.
Have had the privilege of seeing this woman three times in concert; the last one being in December 2016, and I have to say she's just as amazing live as she is on record. Truly amazing and such a down to earth woman as well. She seems to only do small venues and honestly I prefer it that way, so intimate and really makes everyone get up and sing. There is always an amazing atmosphere at her concerts! Nostalgia
23 years ago saw this as a kid on MTV....found a decent song, never really forgot about it but also never really looked it up again.... Now at a crossroad in my life at 35, this song crawls up under your skin and never lets go. I believe that you REALLY appreciate and fully understand this song at a certain age, with enough life bagage. It's truly a masterpiece.
When this song came out I was a young teen the couldn’t relate, now 20 years later I listen and think of all the things that have happened in that time frame and how I’ve managed to rise up from the heartbreak and downtrodden, feeling stronger and unstoppable. This song is empowering…
This song is beyond perfect, I fell in love with this song on the first day when it was released. I have carried this song with me throughout these years. There has never been a moment in my life without this song. Gabriellle, you did it.
My life was a mess last year I just didn't see the point anymore. But things happened that changed my perspective. It's February 2022 and I'm ready to rise again!
Such a great video. A boxer barely surviving in the ring, gritting himself to keep going. I once sparred in the ring.... it's an incredibly lonely place if you're losing!
When you're feeling down, this song can really lift you up. It may seem a sad song but it can really help to release a lot of emotions that need to come out. The old saying that you feel better after a good cry is very true. Went through a break up of a relationship in 2000 and this and other Gabrielle songs from her album really helped me. Thank you Gabrielle. 😃
My boyfriend for 3 years Broke up with me yesterday and since then im just sitting here crying. I love this song. The lyrics are so beautiful. I love you Baby :'(
Beautiful inspiring stories here,it shows that each and every one of us is going through something, well I've had my own share...This song helped me through a hell hole when someone i loved dearly left me when our beautiful twin boys were a month old, but i ROSE!! I thank God and they are now 3 years old and happy...God bless us!
I fell and lost a lot and the past 3 years i have lived bruised and on my knees ... i have everythimg i need to go foward,... I'm ready to rise again.2022 I'm ready to rise again
""Rise" is notable for a rare authorised use of a Bob Dylan sample. It takes extensively from his 1973 song "Knockin' on Heaven's Door", which was produced for the soundtrack of Sam Peckinpah film Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, and Dylan liked the song so much that he allowed Gabrielle to use the sample for free.[2] Dylan receives a co-writer credit for providing the song's chord progression and vocal sample."
yep, my guitar teacher said something like that... there are the same chords like on knocking on heavens door. only without a "c". play it on accoustic guitar and sure everybody can hear it! thanks for the information 👍
Who's still listening in 2022? Some of us teens in 22 years ago didn't know the meaning of this song and now we can fully understand how impactful this song is and for others born after will appreciate this timeless masterpiece
Heard this whilst driving home today on a rainy back country lane & took me back 22 years to when I was a teenage lad & this used to play on tbe radio. My mum would hum along to it. Thought it was crappy at the time, but definitely have a newfound appreciation for it now as a mid-thirties guy.
one of my first tapes I bought. was the same year I started martial arts, I did rise to the top, only to fall all the way back down at the very last hurdle. Black belt would have mean't more to me then most students. I had to overcome some real challenges to get where I was, like the fear of being hit for example from a traumatic and controlling home environment. The only reason I was allowed to go is because I used my bullying from school as a good enough reason, but that wasn't only where the bullying was coming from. I overcome a lot of other battles too in regards to abuse, I learned how to protect myself from beating and challenge highly controlling behaviors at home.
+Ashley Marshall chin up my friend. when times are bad, remember good times are only round the corner. something i find erely comforting is that when you feel so down you are suicidal, you only feel like that because of how good life once was and is going to be again. the bad times are there because life can be just as good as it is bad. i wish you well. keep your head up :)
Conrad Mason Anyway, Gabrielle never tried to hide that she used the background vocals melody line of "Knocking on Heaven's door" as the credits of "Rise" are "Bob Dylan/Gabrielle..." and other writers/composers.
+Belbecat because it was only uploaded recently.........this video was nowhere to be found on youtube........i actually cannot belive it was uploaded in 2013.............i lokked for this video two yrs back it was nowhere............check the 1st comment, that will give you a clue.....i love this song
+Moonblues Crowley It's not because the background vocals sounds close to "Knocking on heaven's door" that the whole song is a copy of it! The melody of Rise has nothing in common at all with Dylan's song.
