I love how ur briefly explaining what everyone does wrong in the gacha fnaf community for 3 years- never rlly saw anyone talk abt their clothes until i finally saw a video abt it, (which is yours!) I love ur designs
I personally like using the Face mask as the muzzle, and just have either the hair (if going the furry route) or a big screw (if going more realistic) to cover up the strings. Also, something I like to do is give animatronic characters regular White Gloves. It gives them a more "kid-friendly" asthetic, as the classic gloves might be reminiscent of characters like Mickey Mouse. Edit: Everyone: Arguing about stolen human character designs that look like regular humans Me, Having my Human designs be based on 8-bit sprites: B] Edit 2: About the Mrs. Afton Dress thing... BUT IT'S SO PRETTY THOUGH
I researched 80’s fashion so much for my fnaf designs that I accidentally dress nearly all my ocs with an 80’s style 😭 But anyways, for people who want more help with 80’s clothing, here is what I’ve learned: Girls wore both pants and skirts during this period. Something I’ve come to notice is that it was mostly younger girls wearing the skirts, but any age could. Younger girls wore stockings or socks under their skirts! Usually also heels, wedges, or flats. The tops could vary, ranging from sweaters to blouses to sweater vests. When wearing shorts/pants, girls would more likely wear sneakers. For tops for boys, they typically wore sweaters, sweater vests, or polo shirts. For pants, jeans were pretty popular, though there were also plenty khakis and shorts. Boys might wear sneakers, sometimes oxfords. Overalls and suspenders were popular! 80’s were BIG on patterns! Stripes, logos, plaid, tartan, etc. Get creative with it! For example, head accessory 235 can be adjusted over the body to look like the diamond pattern of a sweater vest. For hair, like as said in the video, curly hair was very popular. Curly mullets were popular among teenage boys. For younger boys, if their hair wasn’t curly, it was usually neatly combed (maybe even in a bowl cut if you think you could pull that off.) Girls had a bit more variety with their hair. Curly hair was a yes (typically shorter curly hair), bangs were a yes, strict-straight ruler hair was a yes. Pigtails and ponytails too. For example: My Elizabeth design is a heart-patterned long sleeve button-up blouse, with a jean skirt with a rose embroidered into it. She has knee-high white socks and brown wedges. Also, a thick head of ginger curls. My CC design has him with a navy-blue striped polo shirt, wearing blue-green shorts with suspenders, knee-high deep blue socks, oxfords, a bowl cut, and a little pizza patch on his chest. Michael, who I was going for a more 80’s emo/punk vibe with, has a black t-shirt on under his gray tank top, which he cut the sleeves off of. Baggy jeans with black spiked boots, a curly mullet, as well as acne, sideburns, and yellow teeth from smoking (DON’T be afraid to give your ‘ugly’ traits! It makes them feel more real!) Also, something I see a lot of in the community: Portraying the behavior of the 80’s. It’s sad to say, but the 80’s were VIOLENTLY homophobic. After the hippie movement of the 60’s-70’s, we went through a conservative spike. Also the AIDS epidemic that started in ‘83, the public opinion of homosexuals was not good. That is not to say you can’t headcanon a LGBT character, but it was much more likely they’d be closeted and probably even hold internal homophobia. It wasn’t IMPOSSIBLE to flaunt being gay publicly, but it could put you in real danger. People died in hate crimes. It’s sad, but its something we can’t erase just because it makes us uncomfortable. Smoking- smoking was HUGE in the 80’s, among adults and kids alike. Nicotine stains were like badges of honor. The lines of child abuse; What is considered child abuse and child neglect today was quite commonplace back then. Hitting kids was allowed, hell, even hitting OTHER people’s kids was allowed in some scenarios. So was locking them in their room. I’m sure we’ve all heard our parents tell us about how, “Back in MY day, I’d leave the house on my bike as soon as the sun came up and not come home until dinner!” That sort of stuff was actually acceptable back then. Of course, if you REALLY wanna portray accurate 80’s characters, remember to do your OWN research on the fashion, the public opinions, and the current events of the time. This was just to help you get a real idea of how the 80’s were. :)
Thank you!! I've been trying to learn 80s fashion to make more accurate designs and this really helped💕 :33 Edit: OMG, NOT ONLY DO YOU GIVE GOOD ADVICE BUT YOU HAVE GOOD AND AWESOME DESIGNS??
I finally found some who actually gives a straight forward example of what to do with designs And someone whos also addicted to using the checker shoulder peice ^^
HOW DID I MISS IT??? You're sense of colour is so good, finally a person that ACTUALLY understands how desing works! Even though I'm not in fnaf gacha community anymore I still remember making videos like this myself, and I'm so glad to see more people give actually nice tips. Also, I'M JUST IN LOVE WITH YOUR DESIGNS! TOTALLY SUBBING!!
the bright colors tip>>>> I hate when people say to never use bright colors, they're beautiful and exist to be used, just use it wisely i'm not really from the fnaf community, but this video seems really good in general for anything related to character design
These are actually incredibly helpful! I usually try making my designs canon enough to where you can easily tell who is who while also making them a little unique and slightly different. Mrs. Afton is who I really go overboard with i usually dress her like she's fresh out the victorian era so the tips for her are helpful 😅 Thank you for making this 😁
Random tip: The crying child shouldn’t really have his brain sticking out, the bite would’ve at max cracked his skull hitting the brain. not completely breaking the skull showing his brain
These tips and tricks are really interesting and inspiring !! The way you explain could get everyone to easily understand. Great job!, you have made an excellent, and understandable explanation. I'm also struggling with creating and fixing my designs. Time by time, they need a lot of adjusting and improvement to achieve the style and designs I prefer and want. Your tutorial and explanations are very helpful, and the tips and tricks are very creative. And you also pointed out the copying and the kind of character others portray William as, which is pretty hilarious. And as well as the timeline issue, people mess up badly on that. But this tutorial you have made could bring their attention and make them understand properly ! I'm pretty glad that there are some people like you who could help others out with problems like this. Thanks a bunch, man !! I'll try to use this tutorial on my designs, and I hope others do too !/gen (recommented this because there was a word misspelled-...)
This is amazing, I completely agree with EVERYTHING said in this video. From the copying, to the lack of originality, to the tints even! And I love how you pointed out the timelines! I try my best to use that with my designs, Past & Present. Like example for Michael, for my teenage Mike/foxy bro (if you will), I tried my best to go for an 80’s look with the denim jacket & jeans. And for my “present”/future design I went with more of an actual 2020’s kind of style, while still Jaime him actually look his age(which some can struggle with lol😭). But anyway, this video is awesome & extremely helpful, especially for newer creators!!
From a small gachatuber to a big one i want to say, thank you. I've been struggling with the designs for quite some time (especially at William Appleton) but those tips made me more confident in my ocs and i could do something good out of them. Maybe you will not read this or maybe you will, i just want to let you know that I am very thankful for the tips, have a good day everyone. (Ok i kinda overdramatized-)
For someone who uses Neon colours for her characters i definetly loved this tutorial , you gave me some good advice to make a better use of neon colours! Thank you so much. Also , your editing style is beautiful , just loved it!
This is one of the best designs tutorials I’ve ever seen. I definitely agree with all the points. Especially the one about clothes fitting they’re time. Even though I’m not in the gacha FNAF community, I think it rings true for a lot of beginner gachas and artists.
This helped so much! Do you think you could ever do a video on making the more “canon” animatronic designs? They are a lot more complicated and I tend to struggle with making them look like animatronics and not bald, furry Gacha characters 💀
i’m so shocked at these explanations, they are incredibly well explained i’m so glad i saw this although i haven’t been in the fnaf community since like 2020 LMAO, but i feel like anyone should watch thus and be able to decide how to do their characters. this is great advice in general for all types of art, or just ANY gacha character! i’ll be sure to use this ,, your a genius i can’t express how well you explained this. i have difficulty understanding things due to my mental incapacity but this is incredible!
Is actually helped a lot. Although I like to draw and design, I am not very creative. I stick with a consistent design and color pallet, and honestly it has caused problems recently... Taking a look at my recent Singing Battle, you might see a problem. The only one that sticks out is Golden Freddy & Funtime Freddy, and even then, Funtime Freddy seems the most unique... I've been meaning to change their designs, and honestly this might help A LOT. Thank you, very much. 💙
For the animatronic design part, I have the mix of canon and furry. I give them like hair to reference fur and clothing, but I make them extremely tall and have creepy eyes
I really like the tips!I basically just try to give my characters more canon and simple designs that are not too complicated. Its easy to edit and doesn't look complicated
I appreciate the hard work you put into this video. It's very helpful for everyone in the FANF Community. This also helps me because I'm terrible with time area..😅❤
Wow! Your designs are amazing! I was trying to make Afton family designs a while ago (after cringing at my older Afton designs of making them hot and modern), but could never get it look right. I'm suprised at myself for never using tinting, so I might try that and retry making Afton characters. Thank you so much for making this!
I luckily follow all of these stuff already, and i’m happy to see that someone finally notices the problem with most mrs afton designs. Every tip in this video is 100% true and accurate. I’m subscribing, yours is some really good content mate!! ❤️❤️
for my aftons i just did stuff such as search "1980s housewife" (mrs afton) or search "80s teen boy fashion" (michael) since i have no idea on what 80s fashion would look like. i can confirm it looks a lot better, sure i don't post my fnaf content but i make it just because im bored and like to watch my own stuff-
Thank you so much! I’ve always wanted to make my characters look like the 80s but never had ideas. I tried to do google but I saw some pictures that weren’t good examples. You gave me way more tips then Google could ever. 😎
I usually use bracelets and necklaces neon so the character will stand out more and be more eye-catching. And thank you for the little tutorials on how to make your character much more unique in any style, it helped me out A LOT.
I literally love how you’re explaining that they have an 80’s style and not a certain one. Also yes the highlighting problem is a thing too for the stereotypical Aftons. (not hating on anyone who does this) Like please- at least make them a bit darker. 😭 This is definitely gonna help me make my Aftons more their style in the near future when I start making videos! Thanks a lot! 😊
my fnaf chars looks so dull because i use the grayish colors 😭 but now since i watched this video my designs are now much better! ^0^ and this is so helpful!
This helps a lot because sometimes my designs look like 2018 and I personally hate that style because it looks too clean, and characters in 2018 end up looking very unorganized and way too bright, and that’s why I use 65% tint on this blueish purplish color, and one thing people don’t like to understand is the fact that gacha club/gacha life is a game all about being creative and unique, instead people just copy others :/
I used to copy designs all the time since i felt down on myself and thought my designs werent good- But now i make my own and i can say, all i needed was to just pratice making them every now and then. And now? I have offical (kind of) designs! I do kind of change them sometimes since every once in a while they look not to my expectations so i change them a bit til i like them again. It's real easy to be original.
I love how you tried to help the FNaF gacha community, I will definitely listen to this, but I would like my AU to look more like the animatronics (but not realistic) and most animatronics are more dull than fun so I tried to go for that, (like fredbears diner, originals, phantoms, etc..) but ty for telling us to make them look for better! ^^
this video is really helpful and I like how you included stuff with color and time periods I feel like that’s a big thing people strugle with! thank you for making a tip video and I hope to see more of your content in the future
I honestly agree to all of this. it’s an amazing and pretty understandable. i feel like it would be great if you could talk about how some people make the clothes way different then the canon clothes. like you said making the kids clothes bright and colorful is fine but I just don’t like how some people add clothes very different from the canon designs. Like adding hats, random scars/marks. This was very helpful though so thank you. Have a wonderful day. I didn’t watch the whole thing so I’m very sorry if you explained this. Bye
Well since the canon designs have very very simple clothes I think it's fine for people to change up their clothes as long as they stay accurate to the time and personalities of the characters, they are humans after all and humans have their own preference in style and wardrobes to choose from lol
Tysm for the tips. I use a 1950-60’s name and a pink sweater with jeans and permed hair with bangs for my Mrs Afton and I think it looks 10000000x better than before. Tysm for the tips!!
I make them modernized and detail cause it’s my style, and they would try to wear stuff they would wear nowadays. Trying to fit in. I like thinking of it as they tried to make this look more modern to fit in with the new time period. I have semi- realistic too. Smaller head, smaller-ish eyes. Also Ty for these tips! They really helped!
thank you very much for the tips and tricks for FNAF designs!! I finally have some idea of how to make Mrs Afton, thanks to your amazing tutorial! ^^ hope you're having a great day today! stay safe :)
I am in love with the neon color tips. Neon colors are almost NECESSARY to make a good desgin IMO, of course, too much may hurt the eyes, but the 80s were HEAVY on colors and patterns, so go wild and be creative with your desgins, make mike have coloured hare strokes, william have brighter clothes, CC have amber eyes, Elizabeth's hair red and yellow, do whatever makes you happy! :3
9:12-9:20 Here are some tips! Fnaf 2 came earlier in the timeline. (In most AUS) Make them look older! Fnaf 1 should have more fur. Fnaf 2 should use little to no fur (exception to hair) besides chica’s tuft Fnaf 2 Should have brighter colors and more unique clothing for their flashiness.
I'm glad that someone talked about miss afton design, idk if I'm doing better tho, I change her fits every vid and give her both pants and dresses but I keep it simple and not too complicated
i love the point you made about character age!! I see so many people make William and Henry look like these twenty-something, baby-faced twinks. Dont get me wrong, I've seen some good designs like that. But those two are *dilfs* (or gilfs, depending on au/timeline placement-) and we as a fandom should acknowledge this more often-
something im guilty of is giving mrs. afton more old fashioned dresses than what would be normal for the 80s😅 i also like to kinda mix the furry and realistic styles of the animatronics by giving them clothes and hair while also making their faces similar to the canon designs! i think it gives them more personality :]
it's ok if you give mrs.afton like an old fashion dress it can be useful when going to some fancy event/parties/vacation sometimes that's what I do but make it simple & realistic :))
My main inspiration I used is most likely for color theory. I really struggled with it before, but now knowing and learning how to sample colors in a good toned way so they balance off each other the characters are amazing. I also recommend searching up 80s teens boys personality’s who had similar looks to Michel and looking into how young boys, girls, and grown men acted as obviously, though you need canon personality, you also need to have realistic personality traits, like perhaps William with mood changes or C.C with autism or some type of deformity/whatever. And finally, I recommend seeing into missing children incidents and how they happened in the 80s or perhaps something similar to give inspiration for m.I.a children. (This is what I did lmao)
Hey I’ve got a suggestion using just balck won’t work but using colors similar to balck or just dark like dark blue red and pink (Edit)Hey to everyone who read my comment I meant this don’t just use plain black like use colors closer to black like dark blue/purple don’t be afraid to experiment hope this helped clear things a lot more
1:10 For sister location I dont really like full on canon because sometimes it does involve mods to make it exact but Afton designs are easier considering that we pretty much already have pictures to describe and see how they look but this is still a big well known problem 4:04 This is so true tbf 😭😭 I keep seeing drama on tiktok or youtube community posts about people saying someone stole a design; when their designs look exactly the same from the start its so annoying atleast dig into it before assuming?? 😭 10:45 Never seen you before but I liked this video and might subscribe lolol
I don't really have future afton designs but most of the things I said here still apply like age and clothes, however the only thing that changes is to make them look dead, the Unoriginality point also explains how to have unique designs since most of the designs that are copied are dead Aftons
@@emilyhernandez6955 I don't have those in my au lmao, I'm trying to stay away from the whole sci-fi book stuff but if you do have illusion disks in your au then yeah that's a good way to portray that they are dead while keeping the human characteristics
First i wanna say, thank you for this so much, i see your points so much, this really makes me wanna improve my gacha designs, not even for the fnaf fandom but other fandoms im in lol, thank you so much ^^
Small question! As a undertale fan and fnaf this did catch my eye bc a hand full of my designs are a$$- so if u wanna could you possibly make a video on how to design undertale ocs? (Even some aus) thanks man! (๑•ᴗ•๑)♡ -F1ZZY_P0P-☆
Thank you so much for making this video. Even though I just saw it randomly pop up and decided to give it a watch! This actually inspired me to try and design my own versions of the fnaf characters again even though I've kinda left the gacha fnaf fandom. And I do agree on how odd it was to see so many William designs look like he's way younger than he should be even though I didn't mind until you pointed it out since I would focus more on the what's happening in those videos rather than taking a closer look at the character designs
Do you think you could perhaps make a video going more in depth on how you use colour? For example : lineart, gradients and overall colour schemes? I've been struggling quite a bit with it 😭😭 this video is very useful tho!!
Tysm. I've kinda been copying other gatcha tubers designs and I feel really guilty but this video has made me realise that I can make my own unique oc design and all these tips are super useful TYSM again. I wish you well and I hope you have a great day. Tysm❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ty for your video,u expired me to be creative and make lots of good designs,I’ve be struggling with making designs for my ocs into I saw this lovely video!,Thank u once again!
I dont plan making afton family designs in gl, but this helped with some of my ocs! Especially the hair color gradients and time period clothing. Thank you!!
I use a lot of the flower crown in my designs but I usually make them more dull colors and sometimes I use them to cover up the eyes for ascetic like with my Mrs. Afton,Phone guy,and Jeremy Fitzgerald designs! But I use the flower crown for basicly everything lol
The flower crown to cover characters eyes (especially Ms afton) is superrrrr common and overused so if you want to stand out a little I recommend trying some other accessories or ways to cover the eyes but that's just a suggestion
When I did a huge remake of my Aftons designs, I tried to pay more attention to time period clothing like this. Actually, the 2nd picture at 1:40 is what I used as reference when making the outfit for my Mrs. Afton! I think you did a great job explaining what needed to be explained, especially since I’m sure this helped many people with their designs across the community. ✨👍
I finally found a person like me who likes to actually match To the time frame period I limit I like to match my stuff especially to the Time frame of Over the years but I do add a little something to my characters whenever I Do it
