@logical canuck great build on this stethoscope. I just saw the demo video, so thought I'd come check out the build. Impressive one...love your work as always. Stay blessed my friend!
+Grunter Robertson - YES, it must be in contact with piezo. It's what makes this design so sensitive! If the end of supply tube is sharp, file it back a bit to expose a flat spot.
Finally getting around to collecting the parts to build this. FYI - The ABS coupling is not shown in the parts list at the beginning. It is not mentioned until 3:00. I copied the list to go shopping and.... Should be interesting to play around with. I have a large single cylinder model engine that needs balancing so I will follow something like your lawnmower blade procedure and see how I make out with flywheel counterweights. Thanks
+Dave Sage - parts lists are extra effort and it's too easy to miss something so I tend to not provide them at all going forward. This is a very sensitive and capable tool and I encourage you to build one, BUT it is NOT what can balance your model engines. You'll need ADXL335 accelerometer based dynamic balancing procedures for that. Especially GADGETS#60 as in the table saw pulley balancing...
@@theGADGETSplaylist I guess the list can be derived from the video anyway - no problem. I will check out the pulley video and perhaps follow that build and procedure then. I have other uses for this sensor in any case. I have no problem amassing other test devices. I keeping with not re-inventing the wheel and following exactly what you designed - FWIW - I went to Home Depot (HD) and they had nothing in 1-1/4 ABS. They guy there said 1-1/4 is not code compliant any more (?). Must use 1-1/2. Too bulky. I considered switching to PVC electrical conduit which would be fine and a direct substitute except - no such thing as a cap for electrical conduit (that I'm aware of and none in store). Also I would have had to buy a whole length of conduit for $14. Same issue at RONA. BUT I went to CTC and they had 1-1/4 ABS in a short length and a coupling but no caps for 1-1/4. So I don't know what's up with the ABS market. The supply tubes were not available at RONA but they have lots of the braided ones (much more user friendly anyway). HD had the supply tube but buried among the braided ones. And so it goes... I'm going to mill / lathe a pair of caps from some 1" thick black plastic plate I have. I ordered the bag of Piezo's no problem. SO in the end I have everything and I should have it together soon. Thanks for all your efforts.
@@davesage9190 - no 1 1/4" end caps? I just bought a few yesterday (for an upcoming build) at my small local hardware store. Would be a shame to machine some...I'm sure you can find some. I didn't know they were on their way out, though...
@@theGADGETSplaylist Yeah. I'm not sure about that HD guys opinion on plumbing code. I'll have to ask my plumber friend. But If the two big suppliers (HD and RONA) don't have it any more then... CTC had other 1-1/4 fittings as well so who knows. Loews is a bit too far to drive so I didn't check there. No problem milling a couple. I have a CNC mill and the material so it's just a matter of drawing it in Autocad, placng the piece down and telling it to go. It's free that way too :-)
@@davesage9190 - I see LOWES has them: www.lowes.ca/product/abs-dwv-fittings/1-14-in-dia-abs-cap-fitting-276038 Still, not pleased that they're getting scarce😒
