What on earth is the purpose of the voltage regulator that doesn't have its output connected to anything?
@theGADGETSplaylist
@theGADGETSplaylist 4 года назад
+Skitus - the question has been asked in a few video comment sections. It's beyond my level of understanding but I can sum it up as an undocumented feature of the AMS1117 1.2v and AMS1117 ADJ in this form factor. The developer (Martin Loren) exploits it in the HS Serie Oscilloscope design. A bit more discussion on GitHub here: github.com/martinloren/HScope/issues/4

Thanks very much to the designer for the design, and also to LC for the video above showing us it's potential. Although my build seems to work well, for some reason it shows the frequency of a 1hz signal as 100.20khz. Other frequencies up to 32khz are detected correctly so far. Is this a simple s/w bug / does anyone else have this issue? Another issue I have is that when measuring the clock signal from a DS1307 that is supposed to be a square wave, it is showing up as a 'not so square' wave that at 32khz is rounded off at the leading and trailing top edges. It is also changing shape in a regular pattern and tracking left. Unfortunately I don't have a commercial oscilloscope to confirm how accurate it is. Is anyone else able to check their DS1307 to see if they get the same result?

Thanks. btw: I decided to attach a 3 pin header as the connectors on mine so I can use standard clips and wires. I find that for me it makes it a bit more flexible than the usual 'scope probes. I don't need the 10x option for general use.

my question was about the curve tracer. compatible with your hs102
@theGADGETSplaylist
@theGADGETSplaylist 4 года назад
Allfree - I am unsure if your plan is to use a curve tracer (to measure semi-conductor performance) with the oscilloscope as opposed to a stand alone unit. If so, I remind you that this HS102 has 20 KΩ impedance which might hinder such work.
@davidl6599

Hi, thanks for sharing the design and software. For the HS102 (15v), can I replace the 20k resistor with an 18k one to give me a 3.1v range at the blue pill instead of the 2.85v for the 20k? Or, is the 2.85v range pre-defined in the code to translate from a 15v input? (I don't have any 20k resistors but I have 18k.) Thanks.
@theGADGETSplaylist
@theGADGETSplaylist 4 года назад
+David L - I don't think you can swap the 20k for 18k... A while back, I bought a big resistor kit on Aliexpress...not expensive and it has tons of resistor values....the way to go I think if you like this this hobby. As to sharing the software, the STM32 firmware is free as is the STM32 Utils to flash it. All written by Martin Loren. HScope app requires a HS102 licence...about $7.50 last time I checked. If I can be of any help as you build this, do not hesitate to ask. Denis

+Dave Sage - It's a great little scope! I wouldn't sweat the 20 KΩ impedance. I plan a video in the near future where I put it work on a J1850 PWM and J1850 VPW waveform capture. Another guide to its performance would be the newly released CAN BUS DONGLE. That is a HS102 (+/-5v) which has 5 KΩ impedance! Not a problem, IMO.

What is the function of AMS1117 in circuit?
@theGADGETSplaylist
@theGADGETSplaylist 3 года назад
You've spotted the 2 pin "unconventional" use of AMS1117 here... It provides a 1.65v reference. Only the 1.2v version of AMS1117 generates that voltage in this fashion. Other values of that regulator would generate other voltages. Very observant on your part, Oseias. This question gets raised from time to time. A little trick the developer employed.
