8:30 You know, in Ireland and Germany (and probably other European countries as well) this is how they keep their shopping carts stocked. You come to shop, you put a coin in the slot, a cart is released, you use it to stock up on whatever it is you want to buy, you pay for your merchandise, you use the cart to wheel your purchase home, you bring the cart back, you put it back in the slot and you get your coin back. It's a much less antagonistic and much more effective method than what we have implemented here in the US.

So the Starbucks pay for a reusable cup thing is already a thing in Europe. It is called Pfand in Germany. We use it here for aluminum cans, glass, etc. When you pay for a drink at the supermarket, you pay for the container as well, not just the liquid. When you are done with the drink (or the 6-pack, or whatever) return the cans/bottles and get 0.25€ back per container. Great incentive for recycling. About time the US got into it as well.

My ex husband (Stephen Ellis, half English half Welsh so I should have known better) once tried cutting his own hair with clippers at the back and ended up with what genuinely looked like the bottom of the map of Texas (photographic proof available). But that’s not the ridiculous part, the ridiculous part was his going to work IN A BUSY OFFICE FOR TWO DAYS! before asking me to ‘neaten it up a bit’. Nobody said a word to him apparently but I think that was because they were too busy choking on their laughter... 🤔😂😂

When I first heard about Gaetz being in trouble for all of this I wanted to keep my own expectations low, partly to not be disappointed if it went nowhere and to keep to a basis of fair judgement independent of any personal loathing I have for him. The detail where he apparently asked for a full pardon out of Trump has me basically convinced of the allegations so far. There are ways people act when they're innocent, and ways they act when they know they're guilty, and that looks pretty damn guilty.

We have the reuseable cups in Germany, with a 1 Euro deposit. One difference: You do not get a 1 Euro store credit as you return it, you get 1 Euro cash. There also is a return system, its called old people and homeless people. People throw them away anyway, but then the right way to do it is to put them next to the garbage bin not into the garbage bin. I wonder how popular 1 dollar starbucks store credit will be with homeless people compared to 1 dollar cash. I guess they will still pick them up and return them. The beauty of giving back cash for the cash deposit is: Many stores and brands use the same cups, it is compatible across different businesses. All are branded RECUP. All participating shops have to accept and pay cash for all cups anyone brings them. It works.

Borrow a cup is a well known principle which is used on most fairs and Fests here in Germany. Nobody picks up the cups, if you take your beverage to go, instead, you return it the next time you're at the shop/cafe/fest
