Another gold brick! Thank you, John.

I wonder if they will ever make a bracket so that you can make a 4x4 using four of these. That would be extremely useful. Or if they just made a 4x4 version of the light would be even better. I have mine on back-order at Adorama. Can't wait to start playing with this.

yeah i agree with what andrew said, I'd love a pavo 4x1 color and a 4x4 color would be great as well. The brackets are great but time consuming.... having a ready to go 4x1 or 4x4 with pop out soft box and grid would be ideal.

I love these lights but would like different sizes

yeah i think a 4x1, 2x2 ad 4x4 would do well... they pretty much followed industry standards here with 1x1 and 2x1, perhaps they're testing the waters?

John I love your reviews. I watch both you and Andrew from Gaffer & Gear. I'm a DP and not a Gaffer but learn so much from you guys. I have a small kit consisting of two Aputure Nova p300c's, one Nanlite Forza 720B, two older Forza 300B's, one older Forza 500 and 2 pavotubes 30x's. I totally agree with you about PVC cables. I brought this up to Barry from Nanlite the other day. I ended up buying another Aputure p300 power cable for my 720B. Works great and no longer dealing with a stiff cable. Thanks so much for your reviews and advice you give. You guys save people money and give us unbiased opinions.

would you consider this over the FlexKIt for headshots?

I don't know what a FlexKit is.... but with any soft light it's all about size and proximity to talent, shape of source and of course the look you're after....

Another great review and pro opinion, John. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise. I’d hire you. 😊 I love my Pavoslims and definitely recommend them. I can’t wait for the coupler kit and 22' header cable.

That was a great review, thank you very much. Did you also notice that the DMX charts are somehow strangely mixed up? When I loaded the PavoSlim 60C into my Blackout Next app and selected the appropriate fixture profile, the light started blinking weirdly as soon as I changed the intensity. Like the controller was changing intensity and strobe at the same time, but kind of random. Even when the lamp is in DMX mode I strangely can't go back to the menu. I think some firmware updates are necessary to make the lamp really set-compatible. But also the update procedure of the firmware is really strange... I insert the USB stick with the correct files (got them from the support), the device confirms that the new firmware has been detected. A click on "UPDATE NOW" ends in "FIRMWARE UPDATE FAILURE". I'm already talking to support but they don't really have a solution either.

I’ve only had mine on CRMX a few times so far but with no issues… however I did hear this same report from a few other people… and yeah I heard there was a firmware update to address but been too busy to update mine, prob next week.

There is now the Godox version of CRLS, would be great to hear about them as the kit is still expensive but much less compared to ther reflection systems
@GaffersSalon
@GaffersSalon 7 месяцев назад
@@DrumHead23 I will not be promoting or reviewing the Godox (or Dedo) systems... I asked Jakob about his response and he later posted the following on the LightBridge CRLS user forum; "After all the questions on the web about the history of CRLS and Godox I thought if there is a right place to share my thoughts, then it is here with all of you. CRLS has been a long time coming. Cinematographer Christian Berger came up with the idea one day as he was visiting the Lichtlabor (Lightlab) Bartenbach in Tyrol. He was looking for ways to create very natural looking light, keep gear close, but the set as free as possible. He toyed around with different surfaces (at that time with DP Judith Benedikt, she was still an electrician and helping him out in 2001) but the idea and the name was already clear. He was looking for partners to help him make the sheets of aluminum usable on set and tried working with Kflect and later Pani. It didn't work out for multiple reasons and he quit the relationships. Kflect is still on the market, Pani disappeared. When I became his main gaffer in 2010/11 I was confronted with a DP with a very clear vision but very poor tools to survive big productions that had no interest in prototypes and fumbling on set. So I started to make better grip and tools for his reflectors with my crew (Laszlo, co-founder, now works full time in Lightbridge as a technical designer and Manuel is still on set, you can find him on social media under the name Lightlink). I must admit, I also got obsessed with the quality of light, the intuitive ways to use aluminum reflectors - and I always had built my own fixtures and grip for shows, so the concept of building something unique for jobs was not new to me. But it was clear - if we wanted to share my DP's vision with the world, there was a lot of work to do. Christian at this point was so fed up with the manufacturers he had found he wanted to quit CRLS altogether. I took it as my gaffer's promise to keep his vision alive. Lightbridge was born and I made sure that should we ever make any money, my DP would get his share. I take pride in that I don't see our CRLS Precision Reflectors as just a new product - but as an intuitive tool that we had optimized over years on set before sharing it with my colleagues. The product is not the Precision Reflector - it is the light it produces. But as much as I knew about lighting and manufacturing I had no clue about sales and distribution! Dedo, (was) an old friend of Christians and we met and really liked each other. Dedo told me he would help with sales. You live and learn! Didn't take a year before I got the email where he told me that he was doing his own version and I should go back to being a gaffer. (I had taken out a mortgage on my house, quit my apartment in the city and was sleeping on the couch in the small office to make ends meet at the time!) I thought I was dead in the water until I noticed more and more people were purchasing our gear in cities that Dedo was touring! That was a big learning experience: You can copy us - but that doesn't mean you understand why we were doing things a certain way. You just can't copy 15 years of testing on set - it shows in every detail. And it's exactly that knowledge and drive to innovate that sets us so apart from Dedo and Godox. Yes - there are of course IP and patent infringements with Godox and we are following up on this. Kfelct specialized on indoor effect reflectors - that’s great, as is Dedos Eflect. But we believe in fast intuitive, high quality Key-light tools for professionals. It needs to work from tabletop to mounting on cranes. Because it all comes down to creating moods with light, upholding the artistry and craft of lighting - putting visionary people in the limelight - supporting our teams, customers and productions. It all boils down to: supporting, innovating and sharing. Just what a good gaffer does - no matter the job, no matter the weather. That's Lightbridge - bridging art and technology - so we can continue to push the boundaries of light to tell your stories with light together. I hope this gives some personal, first hand insight and if you have any thoughts - do share! We love hearing from you. All the Best and have a great shooting day! Jakob"

What is a good size v-mount battery for this unit? I see a lot of v-mounts that are 98w, but they always mention cameras as the use

This is duel voltage so Can go with 14 or 26v - intellytech has some nice 210wh 14 and Nanlite has decent 26v… for me I cross purpose with other lights so you need to be sure the amp draw is up to any lights you want to run off this battery. The other way is just a small EcoFlow or similar and just plug into it, they have smaller watt hour models that are pretty cheap… depends what you want… the smaller batts are nice and mount to ballast but the EcoFlow will give you more watt hour for the $

How does this compare to the Amaran F21c?
@GaffersSalon
@GaffersSalon 6 месяцев назад
Both are good, I own 2 of each. Bit of diff animals… Pavo heavier but quicker to deploy and also natively spot. F21 lighter weight but takes time to build. Fairly similar color metrics. Pavo has built in CRMX (on the rgbww) where as f21c does not. Honestly I like them both a lot.

I am myself considering selling the Amaran 21c and getting a 120c, only holding me back not being sure if Nanlite will release bigger models soon...

I own both, have 3 f22c and 2 f21c plus the pavos… they are very similar color metrics… kinda of have different strengths really depends on personal preference I think. I like the optional dual mount but I have a number of 2x2 like the f22c so I’d prob only rarely build say the 4x1… I really hope they expand the Pavo color line to include larger sizes…

@@GaffersSalon another fantastic real world distilled down review - I was honestly looking for a 4x4 version (Minimum 4'x2') with the same aluminum housing. Yeah you now have to find a good place for it on the truck (like LM Spectrum) but the set-up time verses say a godox 600 4x4' would be faster. I know even Kino Flo has started moving away from their original mount but every manufacturer should have a standard Kino mount...it's ubiquitous. Additionally the F21/22c and their new mount is better but they took their time replacing it. All and all I can't justify replacing the F21/F22c it been a fantastic unit for run and gun with 98 WH battery modified with John's LM polyskirt hack. The only advantage to say a LM is output and disadvantage would be, not being able to set the whitepoint in HSI mode over the new LM Spectrum.

I think the 4x1 will come in usefull to get that edge right above frame when you're dealing with a low ceiling for example. Als consider you need to order an additional better quality bracket for the Amaran f22c, the stock one is trash. @@GaffersSalon

@@WanderAndringa yeah already hearing talk from Nanlite they may add some more larger fixtures to the Pavo line up. Perhaps a 4x21 and 2x2 etc. To Aputure's credit they did acknowledge the mistake on the original bracket and have offered a free upgrade to the brilliant re-designed back bracket for the F21/F22
