Galadriel is simply majestic, the Nenya bearer, lady of the Galadhrim, one of the greatest Eldar. Well done again!
@johnmacleod9507
@johnmacleod9507 5 лет назад
2nd greatest of the Eldar ever born, after Feanor alone according to Tolkien. But she is not as nice as you think, the Silmarillion was early writing, that his son put together from prepped manuscripts.. Later tales paint her as darker, more violent, she to fought at the kinslaying against the Noldor killing her brethren on her father's side in defense of her mother's people. Personally slaying many. Her rebellion lasted the longest, she did not accept pardon, because as she put it " I did nothing to be pardoned for. She in another tale commissioned Celembrimbor to make the rings so she could have Valinor in Middle Earth. Tolkien says flat out that Sauron feared Galadriel more than anyone, should she get the Ring, because she was the most like him, could master it much more easily and once under its dark influence and with its power joined to her massive power. Lothlorien would fall Last because Sauron wanted all his power unchallenged before he dared her, Gandalf says that. She did not come to Middle Earth to fight Morgoth, she came in pursuit of Feanor, and she came with vengeance in her heart. Morgoth simply killed Feanor before she could get to him. That is the tale the narrator doesn't tell you, it is later much more defined, and Galadriel appears barely at all in the Silmarillion, the story he defines her with. No serious scholar of Tolkien believes the Silmarillion was Tolkien's last thoughts on the Lady Galadriel. Galadriel is the most powerful force for good in Middle Earth she is also the most dangerous possible evil, she makes a choice to diminish. She never repents of her rebellion or her personal actions. She could have ruled Middle Earth, and chose not too, that is why she was allowed to take ship. Gandalf was first sent back with a specific mission to find out Galadriel's, basically she gave the Vala the middle finger. "All shall love me and despair" Galadriel knew that with the ring she would make slaves of all Middle Earth through sheer love of her. People would mindless in their devotion, Sauron would rule through fear something the brave could fight, no one can fight mindless devotion.

I think it goes to show how powerful and wise she is considering she refused faenor the gift of her hair when he asked to infuse it in his craft, but gave it to gimli who simply wanted to remember her beauty and gave him not just the SINGLE hair that he asked for, but also gave him two more, leading gimli to make the now crystal encased hair an heirloom of his house

Well made and I love your perspectives! Funny trivia: according to Tolkien's pronunciation guide, the middle "d" in elvish was meant to be pronounced like the "th" in the word "them." Thus, it would be said "Galathriel" (the elf-lady) and "galathrim" (people of Lothlorien) and "Carathras" (the mountain) etc. I think this was based on Welsh language principles, which kinda makes Welsh look like your keyboard threw up. This detail never caught on in pop culture, so none of us say it like that in mixed company, but I still think of it that way. It has a smoother, more magical sound :)

Same, obsessing over this channel. Grew up reading Lord of the Rings, (the Hobbit in grade school), and The Silmarillian..which I had to re-read immediately upon my first time reading, (and again, and again.. also reading LOTR series multiple times). Though the collection that is the Silmarillian is the most glorious and tragic stories ever written.. nothing, imho, holds a candle to Tolkien's works, thus GOT's never did much for me.

This was such a beautiful video Yoystan Galadrial is one of my most favorite characters I'm the Legendarium and is (imo) one of the greatest and most fascinating ones too especially with her long and great history just like I find it so inspiring with Gimili and Galadrials three hairs I also find it very inspiring that in the beginning Galadrial wanted power and to rule lands of her own and yet as time went on she began to understand and not desire great power and fully had come to realize that when she past the test with Frodo tempting her with the One Ring it really shows that she has such great and interesting development as a character and I think that's one of the main reasons why shes one of the best in the Legendarium anyway loved this video can't wait for the Beornings one!!! :)

@@AndyZach It was like she was tying up all of her lose ends, not only for herself, but for all her people. She completely changed Gimli's perspective on the entire race, and coupled with his friendship with Legolas, the dwarves in general probably had a better understanding and respect for the elves after that encounter and the subsequent events. She is so symbolic to the Elven race, she has been there for most of their history and has seen every good and bad moment, and she understands it all. I just love her so much, Tolkien did such a great job giving her LIFE.

its not really the fact that they arnt powerful. in a world created by a guy who took the time to develop entire new languages, he couldn't write more than four real female characters, and one of those is a giant spider. they are also not huge characters in the sense that they do not get a lot of screen time. from what i understand they are also made more important in the movies than in the books. at least from my perspective anyway
@Jaasau
@Jaasau 5 лет назад
Divergent_bowtie I disagree. The Valier and several female Maiar are central to the Silmarilion. For instance, Varda and Yavanna drive much of the plot. So does Melian. Of course, Tolkien has most of his story driven by men or male-type beings, but I think that is a reflection of his time, and most of OUR own history, or at least the telling of it.

Lovely video as usual!!! Could you make a video about, what would happen if Tauriel was real and had sailed to the West? I know that I have asked this 2-3 times, but I would really love to see it.

Galadriel: I don't want to give a single strand of hair to Feanor, I saw through him, he's full of malice Also Galadriel: follows Feanor to Middle Earth, accepts a ring of power from Feanor's grandson, leaves him without help to be captured by Sauron, been banned from Valinor for 3 full Ages There's a reason why Gil-Galad was High King of Noldor, and she wasn't

Galadhriel - pronounced Gah-lah-three-el Galadriel - pronounced Gah-lah-dree-el. Galadh = Galath = Tree. Galad = Gah-lahd = light Dh = Th Caras Gala-thown Ea = Y i = 'ee' sound. Maedhros = "May-throse." Earwen = "Yarwen." Finarfin = "Fee-nar-feen." Any vowel with a long mark over it is pronounced harshly (the long vowel sound). They got a few things wrong with Elvish languages in the films (which they admitted to, later), but just wanted to help you out with the pronunciation.

Galadriel was one the first Elves to be descended from all the three Elven races inheriting Noldor and Vanya blood from her paternal grandparents Finwe and Indis while also claiming Telerin descent through her mother. She is thus a representative of all the three races and Calaquendi into the bargain. It makes her a symbol as an elf of high status and power. Add in her age and Galadriel was formidable even without her ring which can be seen as the reason as to why her ring was able to give her such power as it was said that the Rings gave people power according to their measure. Galadriel, descended from all three races only 2 generations from Illuvatar and old enough to predate the Silmarils would certainly be a titian figure in the 3rd Age when most of her contemporaries had died or sailed while she remained.

Galadrial. Proving that a woman can be a narrator and even lending her voice to enrich the story being told.
@timomastosalo
@timomastosalo 5 лет назад
And she's powerful, yet not aggressive; compassionate and wise and strong. They don't exclude each. And beautiful of course. The whole package, basically. I'm sure many men - uhm, members of the male sex - have lost their heart for her, but she has healed them wih her sincerity. Tender words even for the rejected suiters. I know I would easily be very taken by such a woman. But - many of the main Elven characters have lived for thousands of years. Imagine if in our time you met someone who saw Rome rise and fall, and it wasn't even the first great kingdom she or he saw. How can human beings undrstand how they see the world? I wouldn't likely find a common ground with Galadriel, even if she'd be available and willing to make the acquaintance a bit more personally :) Many Elves are such superbeings - many virtues, a few (if any?) weaknesses. It makes them a bit hard to approach, it's like they'd be floating in their high clouds above the short lived men. Not because of their meanness, but just because there would be little common interests with Elves and humans. An elf could, for example, puzzle about a music to compose for 200-500 years, always correcting if not happy. The human who heard the first version, would be long gone, and some of his great(great...)grandchildren might hear the complete song.

My question about galadriel is; was she aware when Frodo used the phial of galadriel
@MenoftheWest
@MenoftheWest 7 лет назад
stevemonkey6666 It is definitely possible! With her powers and natural gifts of the Eldar, she might've sensed or even seen Frodo use it in Shelob's lair from far away, as he had not passed into the land of Mordor fully.
@julianneyvonne560
@julianneyvonne560 4 года назад
She appeared to Frodo in shelobs cave. She knew. I believe she kept her mind on Frodo to assist him if she could. There were many things at play and she definitely stepped in during Gandalfs absence becoming the white.
@ilovenycsomuch
@ilovenycsomuch 4 года назад
Julsy G that’s true I think she totally might’ve appeared to Frodo at the cave conscientiously, I guess I used to assume he was just having a lucky “vision” when his mind needed hope most so it manifested that... now I think she sensed him using it & watched him or something & when she saw that he was in trouble & passed out she must’ve sent that message to him herself even if he had no idea! I think that’s so cool I love it

Obviously the power of the three Elven rings of power was ended, so too would the magic that maintained Lorien and Rivendell have ended. I think they just weren't willing to live in a world that would be so changed. Several times in the books; is says that while the Elves want Frodos' mission to succeed; it will also bring great sorrow to them.

She is truly my favorite character ever
@jasonuerkvitz3756
@jasonuerkvitz3756 2 года назад
She always bore great ambition and desire to rule her own kingdom and although she ruled Lothlorien, it was a small secreted place, regardless of its unsurpassed beauty, that was divided and isolated from the rest of Middle-Earth. She indeed had the greatest opportunity to rule a kingdom far greater than Lothlorien, a kingdom that spanned all borders of the world, but her inner divinity prevailed and she refused. She, though immortal, understood there is only one true and singular power in the universe and in her worship of Him, chose not to refute it. May we all strive to be more like Galadriel, ambitious, willful, insightful, discerning, and ultimately humble enough to refuse temptation.

I always found Galadriel's relationship with the Valar and Valinor rather precarious and even contradictory at some levels. Yes, she was definitely a free thinker who followed her own path but she still emulated the light and wisdom of her birthplace. She wasn't quite the fallen Eldar that Feanor and his followers who committed the Kin Slaying had become, but she was still a renegade.
