My dreadlocks turned 4 years and 8 months recently. I wanted to talk to you about how they have changed and how dreadlocks generally will change over time. Also I wanted to address the issue, that a lot of young people ask me, if they should get dreadlocks without school or parents permission. Dreadlocks should be something fun and personal, and never be a struggle. Enjoy it!

I would like to point out that a long time ago, before brushing or combing was ever a thing, everyone had dreadlocks. It is not a racial thing. It is something that occurs naturally for all humans. Stop the ignorant racist comments.
@yourefullofLOVE
@yourefullofLOVE 9 лет назад
THIS IS TRUE because brushing and washing wasnt a thing in the stone age! haha the clumps arent "dreadlocks" they're matting. you know when dogs with long hair matt up when theyre not groomed? this happens to all humans too. thats why hippies do it, they dont like all that "unnatural" stuff and technically, not brushing or washing is natural??? lolol
@x3kimchii
@x3kimchii 8 лет назад
+Venus Vix if you have to use rubber bands and rub pieces of your hair between your hands on a regular basis to achieve this "hairstyle" then obviously its not naturally occurring hun :)

Yes but if you wait for the approval of your parents, family and all surrounding everytime you want to do something, you won't do a lot in your life.... Once you're 18+ you have the right do to whatever you want, just understanding the consequences your actions may bring... But we have to live for ourselves not for ppl around. This is very important.

ARE you bad at answering youtube comments? What advice would you give to the boy with short hair who grew his hair the hard way, ALL NATURAL. No shampoo, hot water, no sports or stories to tell, just growing his hair. Never brushing it, or trying not to, and then the day his natural dredlocks have finished sticking together and are all natural, complete dreadlocks, well, then he takes a (photo) of the back of his head, and just shaves all of them off?

1:30 - 1:55 I kinda have a different view on that. I personally believe that I should not live in the image of how other people think I should Look, and that if they don't like how I look then it really shows how shallow they really are. I believe in judging people by there personality not there looks, but what are you going to do this is the world we live in. With Parents yes if you live in their house you should respect them, but at the same time just because they made you doesn't mean they own you. They had fun making me, I'm going to have fun being me.

QUESTION: so I had dreads for 8 almost 9 mounths and then my roommate cut them off wile I was passed out (they are not my roommate any more) but I miss them so so so much I feel like my arm was cut off that part of me is missing! I can't get over it ( and my head is cold lol) I was trying to figure out a way to get dreads again but the hair that is left is too short to lock up. then I had an idea; COULD I USE DREAD EXTENTIONS TO START MY NEW DREADS? EX: if I put in dread extentions in my regular short hair would my short hair lock up like new growth ? also I do not know how dread extentions work or how to attach them. do you have any suggestions my hair is now 3 inches long and I don't want to wait for it to belong enough to lock on its own. my dreads are deeply missed !

How was his comment sexist? He's obviously mistaken in saying that she's not wearing makeup, but nowhere in his comment was there a sexist bit. If anything, he was empowering women to stay natural and be themselves.

Just by washing your hair with the right shampoo will dry your dreads enough to make them knot up with your loose hair. This is all I did, and I barely have loose hair now :)

I remember a video, years ago, where you said you like the loose hair (to give it a more natural look) and that you don't wash your dreads. If you want the loose hair to go into the dreads naturally just keep your hair very clean. As the loose hair rubs onto the dreads they will find their way into the dread. With long loose hair you're more susceptible to having the loose hair find a dread far from the loose hair's root... usually something people don't want. If you want to promote hairs to go into the dread closest to it I suggest cutting the loose hair to about 6 inches and getting a wool hat/mittens, something to rub the dread BY ITSELF to get the loose hair tangled into that ONE dread. By doing this you wouldn't have to worry about loose hair finding a dread far away from it's roots. Once you do this, try your best not to mess with it, like young dreads, the hair may fall back out of the dread. So let it sit, and do this multiple times to ensure all loose hair found their own dread. And again, like all dread heads know... there will always be loose hair. Just be as you have been and love them all the same. :) Hope this helps :) Oh, and btw, you're suuuuper cute ! :D

What a difference 2 years made on your appearance, for the better! You've grown mature: virtually no bids nor rubberbands on your locks; and much less piercings :) Do you still don't wash your hair? Because I got curious about this: you don't just wash it or you don't even get it wet at all? Don't you ever feel the need to? (Also because if you go to the beach you really have to treat your hair after) :)
@neuroleptika
@neuroleptika 11 лет назад
Continuing last comment; The third biggest problem is washing...I heard you dont was your dreads, I rarely did either the first time I had dreads but that eventually lead to serious scalp-problems for me. So now I wash about once a week och every 5 days with head&shoulders dry scalp care, it kills the fungi and bacteria really good so nothing starts to grow in the scalp or dreads. But damn it´s heavy when wet...and that problem only gets worse and worse, and it takes longer and longer to wash.
@neuroleptika
@neuroleptika 11 лет назад
The weight is by far the biggest problem I think...my hair gets so heavy fast and if I don´t work out my neck just breaks down. But I have had dreads 3 times and started as a 13-14 year old so I guess it has put a lot of pressure on my neck before I became an adult. The second biggest problem is the scalp, it gets harder to maintain good scalphealth the longer and thicker the dreads get, less and less air get in and fungi grows fast in moist weather (the cause of dandruff and other problems).

So the loose hair at your roots, must you twist or maintain them too? Or do they just naturally maintain themselves and become dreaded locks? I absolutely adore your beautiful hair. I long to have dreads like yours one day :) thanks for sharing all the helpful knowledge

My Dreads are getting thiner with growing, because I didn't put the lose hair in them for a quite long time, and mine are growing soo fast! This is interesting how different they are. its good to know how many dreads you started with vs. what you have now. i've been questioning my dread sectioning and if i have enough because in places (especially the back) it seems like the gaps between are too big. mine are about 9 months old and some are still thin because of my hair type, but i have 50 dreads now. i've always admired the beautiful way your dreads have grown!

That honestly sounds quite shallow. I can understand appreciating natural beauty, but it doesn't make her any better than a girl that is less "natural" or a model or anything of the sort. Also she is clearly wearing makeup and cares about her appearance, it's very natural for people to do so. Please do not compare women, especially on appearance. it's not a competition. Anyways, Anna you're absolutely lovely and I love hearing about your journey. You make me regret taking out my 2yr old locks!

It seems your hair is straight around the hair line when you have your hair up, but when you have it down, it covers it - does it turn that way after you've grown it out for a while? I assume the straight hair near your forehead and nape of your neck is that way because they cannot grow into the dreadlocks (like you said). Or maybe you just keep them very loose?

You shouldn't try to cater to your family's and friend's opinions about you or your hair, you should do what makes you happy.... you only get 1 life to live and family and friends don't gt to dictate to how you live your life (If you are under 18 and/or depend on your parents, this really doesn't apply). your dreads are amazing!!!

It's not empowering to women to act as if your opinion on how they should decorate their own bodies matters. It would be empowering to tell women of all styles and shapes and backgrounds that they look beautiful no matter what they do. You don't need to put some women down while lifting others up

You are so unbelievably gorgeous, & that was very good advice that you gave. I think alot of times, people feel that their hair, what they wear, piercings, etc., is necessary to 'being yourself' or 'expressing yourself', but those are just things,not the essence of who one is as a person.
