Omg Rani Mukherjee did a Kajol on this one! Just after she had shown so much poise on Koffee with Karan. I started off loving the podcast and now I am a bit bummed. I wanted to hear everyone else more but sigh! That snub to Prithvi was so inappropriate- this is a round table not a debate. Look at Rima, what class!

Rani’s rant was not necessary. She got offended for no reason. Prithvi just meant the ideas in Iranian cinema are better. That was his opinion, nothing to get offended.

After listening to Rima and others, I hope Rani understands that how privileged she is and she sounds. Worried about her daughter waking up at 6 in the cold for online school 😅. Most of the kids wake up at 6 or 7 to go to school and she is not waking up in a tent in the cold but in an air conditioned room. Hope she learnt something by listening to others about how they struggled for years to make a film.

prithvi spitted truths like dostoevsky! "if somebody has been fed on burgers from day 1, then to bring them to rotis" is hard ends all the arguments. I am not sure if the other panellists really understand the gravity of this statement. truths are bitter as usual! We need more interviews with prithvi! one of the original and honest voice!!!!

Sandeep Reddy is one of the most articulate minds here though haters hate his movies but his understanding of the craft is second to none. He represents Telugu cinema really well nationally.

What a wonderful conversation! Enjoyed listening to the filmmakers from such diverse backgrounds. The only downer was RANI MUKHERJEE towards the end. It felt like she just wouldn't shut up! Felt like an over-eager graduate in a group discussion who made a point which wasn't lapped up by everyone and she couldn't take it. Constantly butting, which felt disrespectful to the other speakers. Even BR had to call out names of other speakers so they got a chance to answer the final question.

So happy to see Jude getting recognition which he deserves. Was already a fan of his after watching Ohm Shanti Oshana. He has come a long way since then❤❤

Rani Mukherjee is so ‘EGOISTIC’. She is taking the notion of being a tigress a bit too far & not stopping at lecturing at every stage..Calm down lady & let other prolific ppl talk too without u interrupting them at every stage

I really enjoyed the roundtable more because of Jude, Prithvi and Rima - such underrated gems. I also felt Rani did not understand what Prithvi was trying to say, India has the potential to be the place where best cinemas could be made and there are no shortage of ideas/stories but how many of those ideas are being translated into films? Coming from big studios like Yash raj I don't think she understands how people who try to make the 'different kind of films' have to struggle to make audience even acknowledge such films, I think Prithvi was trying to suggest how Iranians pick ideas from their real life scenarios and translate them into such movies, whereas, the bigger studioheads in India are very worried about the business aspect of cinemas, I mean out of 100s of films made, 12th fail was only one such movies that she could quote which was again made by a prolific filmmaker like VVC. I felt he was trying to say that within the cinema ecosystem, there is a need to support all types of cinemas instead of giving thrust to movies that is targeted at only making money, this would be 'healthier' for everybody.

Rani going on a tangent to what Prithvi said was so unnecessary, that too backed with no sense. Up until then she had already bored with several terrible answers, but this was the tipping point for me.

Tbh Prithvi mentions the Iranian movies because of the rawness. 12th fail is a great story but acting wise, Iranian actors and directors are on another level. Indian Cinema has a long way to go for audience to become that mature to consume raw action.

Rani talks like a politician. Sab achhe hai main achhi hu industry achhi hai tum chup karo aur sab apne ghar jao. This is her basic attitude when asked anything that needs a realistic answer not an idealistic one.

Rani misunderstood Prithvi's point of view. I see the family in A Separation directed by Asghar as my own family and identify with their story and characters the same way I relate to Malayalam cinema. Rani should understand that good storytelling that is rooted are important than budget based films. He means that Iranian films have low budget and they struggle to exist when filmmakers and writers are working in a country where freedom of speech or their own profession is threatened by the government. Still they make good movies that found audience around the world.

Rani is so arrogant and catty! People are allowed to have other points of view. Just because one film maker expresses his views dosent make it sacrosanct, listen and don’t deride. If you don’t agree that’s fine put your point across no need to vehemently deny the other persons truth.

I can’t believe I’ve watched all the interviews Sandeep has been in. At first I just liked Animal based on my expectations being met of the film. I was then very surprised by the huge backlash that followed by the feminist critics of the film who just bashed the film on the “women” angle ignoring all the other aspects. I’ve watched Animal twice more and managed to pick up so many details that Sandeep had mentioned in his interviews. This man is a genius in terms of filmmaking, even RGV said so. He’s the first director that I’m really a fan of. The man really has a hardcore personality !!😂😂

I never expected Karan to be the one praising Sandeep’s filmmaking abilities when they make films of polar opposite ends and are totally different people. This speaks volumes of Karan’s judgment of cinema which is better than all the so called critics!

Rani Mukerji didn't understand the point of Prithvi and totally started giving lectures about India Meanwhile she said "Kannad" not "Kannada" which is disrespectful which made me offended she doesn't even know anything about our languages, our cultures which was the point of prithvi to make more rooted films eventhough irian films have budget constraints and freedom of speech constraints by government how they achieved that . She have not even achieved 1% of what Mr. Pritvi konanur has done to our Indian film making it recognised by rest of the world people.

One thing which got cleared from this roundtable is that everyone in the industry are fed up with the critics and reviewers. They are secretly enjoying it when sandeep reddy vanga raises his voice against these groups😂😂

Karan speaking great things about Animal was something I'm not prepared for... Also I'm so fascinated about the amount of mutual respect they share. It's so funny that in last year's round table Hemanth rao expressed how making people saying kannada cinema instead of kannad cinema was a big thing, a year later Rani talking about all language cinemas coming together as indian cinema says kannad cinema

Lately, I can't stand Rani's interviews. She's sitting on this high horse like a Queen judging everyone. She needs to have the last word, everyone needs to agree with her. Extremely annoying!

It shows how dissociated these actors are when Rani did not know even know about the case on which she made it, which was widely covered in news - both electronic and print. The simple answer to Rani is how many Persian movies she has seen and how rooted they are - the likes of Majid Majidi and Asghar Farhadi!

Rani saying Indian films are the greatest without watching even one Iranian film is just plain ignorance. Rani Mukerji may be strongly opinionated but she is very ill informed and has very less ability to think. Such women just blabber something and feel as though they have made correct statements

The way I love Malayalam films ehn? Chai. Many times I find myself longing to be a witness in those films, just walking into the world of the film and witnessing and living there with the characters. It's such a beautiful feeling. I never have this feeling with any other cinema. Not even Hollywood films make me feel that way. Malayalam films are really special. I appreciate what Mr Prithviraj Sukumaran is attempting to do to elevate Malayalam cinema but in doing so we must not lose that gift of making the mundane magical, endearing and newsworthy which Malayalam filmmakers do so well.

Kannada films have produced some gems in recent years.. I would love to see Prithvi’s movies.

I think this is the problem with some people in Bollywood. They intervene and try to prove a point. The director said we should watch Iranian films and see how they are good in terms of ideas. That's it. He did not say anything to demean Indian films. But Rani has started a lecture about the diversity of India and Indian films as if she only knows about our country. Everybody in the panel loves India and the Indian films.

The biggest win of this roundtable was giving a forum to Prithvi and Rima. I'm still waiting to watch movies like Pinki elli and Pedro that have won so many awards but still haven't got a proper release. And Karan talking with such levelheadedness and passion is always refreshing.

I somehow did not like the patronizing attitude of Rani. She could be an achiever. But, the way she ranted after a participant shared his point of view and going on prompting words when Rima was expressing her opinion was a bit much to take. They, in my opinion, are greater achievers as they came up without any patronizing.

Rani should have been avoided in this roundtable. She spoiled many discussions, she's simply giving lectures here instead of having healthy conversations. Most importantly she has eaten most of the time and others were not given time

So glad to hear that Hadinelentu might get a release. I have heard really good things about it. Since, I do not live in Karnataka, I hope that OTT release does happen. Including for Pedro. Thank you for introducing us to Prithvi.

I'm glad that Jude Anthony explained the experience of going out in the awards circuit in the west. At the end its not as straightforward as watching and liking the movies. There are too many movies for juries to see and then choose, at the end most of the movies who have promotion dollars can only go so far as making it to final films choosen for Oscar nominations. Also juries have their top countries like European cinema and then in Korea and Japan from Asia. Theres a preference for filmmakers like Pedro Almodovar from Spain and others who have only done non-english films but are household names in the west.

i completely agree with mr.prithiv here indian cinema is not even best in asia chinese korean japnese are making better flims after satyajith rao we don't have any great directors who makes rooted and grounded flims also iranian flims are very good in showing emotional side of people hindi cinema actors, directors has no rights to talk about rooted cinema. all this amazing nepo actros should go and live in hindi heartland for few months to know about roots. especially karan johar SRK 90s era ruined bollywood with romcom which worked well and they forgot other genre flims.

Liked the interesting strategies placed by Prithvi and he is correct about finding actors from the realistic areas. Vetrimaran did that for his first film. It’s nice to know that there are good directors who do more realistic stories grounded to the native nature of the land and people. Similarly Jude and Rima who bring people’s stories. They are amazing , so keep rocking because as audience as much they like action films we also need to watch realistic films. Regardless whether it’s realism or ultra fantastical films in the end content and how it impacts the audience is important. Karan is successful because he has bought an algamation of emotion and fantastical in his films without compromising the content. What I liked about him was he is honest and transparent discussing the truth in all about the cinema business acumen. It’s really helpful to know what really happens in the cinema industry. Also as he said he put his money on good content films even though it may not have a star. He should help more directors who with native realist stories to bring their films to the mainstream audience as well. Also in reality there are stories out there about father vs daughter where both can be equally have social emotional issues in coming into terms with each other. Father alpha male, while daughter hates it but also respect the father. I think that will be an interesting story. There is a lack of story that looks from the female point of view on how they feel about relationships about men. From Father to Husband to Children and even grand children. There is a stereotypical view that stories of Father vs Son is the only thing out there that need to be told, because the masculine story is easier to say but actually the more complex and heroic story comes from the women. Their entire lives is dictated by men so aren't their stories are equally important to be told out there. In reality there is more Daughter vs Father issues. Their stories need to be told too. In current days it's not much about male children only but female children also find it difficult to get parents love , even partiality in getting it compared to other children in the family. In the later part of the interview I I think BR is trying to hint to Rani Mukarji that even Indians who have been consuming Indian cinema now especially youngsters do not mind watching hearing stories from films out of the country. It's true India has diversity, but that doesn't mean we should not adventure out to watch films with stories from other languages outside India. Even SathiyajitRay mentioned how he was influenced by Western films (its in the RU-vid) also Akira Kurosawa also was inspired by western film techniques and learned from there. If you really study film history you would know who got inspired from where. What we know is only a drop in the ocean there is more to it.

When Prithvi talked about Iranian cinema, he didn't mean disrespect to Indian cinema. Most of our directors and actors get inspired from Hollywood etc. He was merely suggesting to explore Iranian cinema as an alternate. No need to bring diversity card of India and say that we have no need to learn from others. Not the way to express a point. 12th fail is a biopic and as a consequence has to come from our roots. If she had brought up a Vettrimaran movie and asked Prithvi to watch such fictional movies grounded in roots, it would have made sense to me. Felt that it is truly uncalled for to dismiss a co-artist like that.
