“Let’s get out of here before one of those things kills Guy” is one of the funniest underrated lines ever.

"You called yourself a mushroom, now get into the box." is my new favorite saying ever.

All of the actors are totally nailing it, but Alan Rickman and Tony Shalhoub are especially wonderful in this one.

3:23 The way the Thermians speak is based on a vocal exercise that many stage actors do to warm up their voices before a performance. When Enrico Colantoni auditioned t play Mathesar, he first did his reading in a normal voice and then did it in the signature up and down intonation, and the director loved it. As he got into the role, Colantoni came up with the facial expressions and odd way the Thermians move, and basically created the whole physicality for the Thermian species, and when extras arrived on set to play background Thermians, they were told "See that guy (pointing to Colantoni)? Do what he does." I love Mathesar, and I think Enrico Colantoni's performance is brilliant.

"By Grabthar's Hammer, by the suns of Warvan, you shall be avenged." that line delivered by Alan Rickman gets me every time.

Btw, there's a famous quote from the renowned filmmaker/dramaturgist David Mamet, where he counts Galaxy Quest as one of the four "perfect" films ever made. On the one hand it seems easy to dismiss a comedy film like this as not being "serious" film making... but when you look at how incredibly well it achieves all its goals - pop cultural satire, a perfectly balanced comedy script with pathos and genuine emotion, brilliant casting, a storyline that works on multiple levels effortlessly, a gloriously bombastic musical score, a near-perfect arc for every single main character etc etc - it becomes pretty clear that this film is very much something rare and special.

one joke easily missed is that after having said throughout the movie that his character is unimportant and therefore he will die, Guy is pretty much the only person *not* getting shot when Saris starts shooting everyone towards the end :p

"Never give up, never surrender." For a simple Star Trek parody line this phrase is more significant to a lot more people nowadays.

Galaxy Quest is about every fantasy and sci fi franchise and their dedicated fan base, not just Star Trek. That makes it so great and relatable.

Alan Rickman was one of the best actors around. It's a shame he's no longer with us.

So many great parts in this movie, but one of my favorites is when Gwen says, "Surely you don't think 'Gilligan's Island' is..." and then Mathesar says "Those poor people". I almost peed myself the first time I heard that. And when Dr Lazarus says the "By Grapthar's hammer" line to the dying Thermian - but with feeling - it is surprisingly emotional, much to many people's surprise.

This is pretty much a perfect movie. The character of Fred (Tony Shaloub) was supposed to be stoned all the time. But to get a PG rating they cut out all the scenes that show drugs. This is why he was shown eating so much, and why he always seemed so loopy. Similarly, Gwen (Sigourney Weaver) was in a seduction scene that they cut, which is why her costume was torn open with no explanation. One thing I like about Galaxy Quest is that it portrays the nerdy fans with real affection.

.....and it exploded.” That dude is the guy who tricks Deadpool into working with Francis. While watching Deadpool for the 1st time, it bothered me. Where do I know that guy? This masterpiece. Even the overdub flaw, makes it perfect too.

One thing this movie gets so well is how "real" the space sequence feels, especially when the ship first gets out of port (also the first time it gets revealed before that). It still hits me how real it feels and looks. I still don't know how they did it, because even serious movies don't quite get that realness.

You were right about the feeling of this movie. It may be making fun of sci-fi but it was made with love. There's a reason it's a cult classic. Every character is great and the humor is just perfect.

The absolute existential despair that Alan Rickman expressed while delivering the line "By Grabthar's Hammer, what savings." kills me every time.

The bathroom scene at the convention was based on something that actually happened to William Shatner (captain of the original Star Trek)

True story: At a Star Trek convention shortly after this movie came out, people were asked to rank their favorite Star Trek movies from best to worst and this movie came in 4th...even though it's not even a Star Trek movie! That is quite impressive. Also, Jonathan Frakes (Commander William Riker) of Star Trek the Next Generation asked Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard) if he had seen the movie yet and Sir Stewart said he had not and sort of blew it off, but Frakes told him he really should see it and the two of them went to see it (and loved it).

Best Star Trek Parody ever and yes also a special tribute to the fans as well. It shows us what would happen if the cast of the original series were mistaken for real space heroes and must fight off an intergalactic warlord.

Alan Rickman's delivery of "the line" always breaks me. it's such a testament to what a truly great performer he was. Guy was the terrible prisoner on The Green Mile. The female Thermian was the scary woman on the Cobras in Dodgeball. Both are incredible character actors who are great and often overlooked.

Best line to me is when Sigourney Weaver goes, "f*** that!" At the ridiculous , meaningless obstacle that's facing them.

What's funny about Gwen's "purpose" on the ship, is that...in the show, the writers just wanted her for eye-candy. They gave her a stupid job of repeating the computer because she was only there to look good, and nothing else. But, the Thermians don't understand that. They thought she had a legitimate and necessary job to do. So they interpreted her role as being "in charge of" the computer. Like, if anybody wanted the computer to do something, they had to go through her...it wouldn't simply accept commands from just anyone. She had to give the computer commands. So, what we see in the movie is that when Jason or anyone asks the computer to do something, or answer a question, it basically ignores ALL of them. But it immediately and exactly does whatever Gwen tells it to do. And that means...if anything had happened to Gwen (or whichever Thermian had her job before they were all picked up), then they literally can't use the ship anymore.

I love soooo much that she totally gets the movie and the fandom. This is one of my most favorite movies. Thank you, Dasha, for sharing your reaction with us. It was greatly entertaining and fun.

I honestly never watch a single episode of Star Trek but I found this movie hilarious. It’s great when a movie is trying to poke a little fun at something a lot of people love and they make something that becomes a cult classic. Great reaction Dasha.

"A chillingly realistic documentary." - George Takei, on Galaxy Quest

When it came out in cinemas, the film up to the bay doors opening is 1.85:1, and the rest of the movie was in in 2.35:1, so the "holy shit it's real" sort of thing hit home even harder.

This film is ultimate love letter to fandom of any kind. I love this film. When you watch carefully. Every time Allan Rickman says :" "By Grabthar's hammer" the deliverance is amazing as every time its different. From total, boredom to disgust to actually believing it. It was hard me to believe the range opf acting Allan Rickman showed in this, comedy film his acting talent. Its just insane.

The documentary "Never Surrender" is a brilliant behind the scenes about this movie made decades later, and has also shown that this film started aimed at adults more!

interesting story, when Tim Allen was filming the bit where his character was telling Mathazar the truth about the "historical documents" he got too emotional and had to step away, at which Alan Rick man said "I think he just experienced acting"

The actor who played Guy Fleegman, who was a crewman in one episode of "Galaxy Quest," played Wild Bill in "The Green Mile."

This is a really under-rated movie. You have to be a certain age to get some of the jokes, especially the Gilligan’s Island reference. I think that one went over your head.

The movie is full of references to bits in the original Star Trek TV show and movies as well as incidents from the actors' lives on the convention circuit. You don't really need to know the specifics to get the jokes, though, since the situations are generic enough that similar tropes have appeared in many other movies and shows. Knowing the background just adds another layer of appreciation. For example, the part where Nesmith thinks Gwen shut off the audio to Serris while he's coming up with his plan to fool him is a reference to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, where the scene plays out differently.

Unbelievable how much heart they have put into the characters. You really care about everyone in it.

I comment every time i see someone react to this.. Johnathan Frakes (Riker on TNG) called up Sir Patrick Stewart (Picard) and told him that he had to go see this film. Stewart originally didn't want to see it because he thought it was going to be making fun of the Star Trek fans he had been meeting at conventions and speaking to and he loved. He said he saw it in a crowded theater and laughed and loved it, that it was a homage to the fans and was taking the piss out of the actors themselves and not the characters they portrayed.

Dasha, another wonderful reaction video (as usual). I love when Laliari (the alien girl) stays with Fred at the end.

I always enjoyed this movie and watching with Dasha's reactions made even more enjoyable. Dasha, you have the greatest reactions and commentaries, so very cool.

Quellig has hardly any screentime, but a few lines...though we never really get to know anything at all about him besides that he has adopted all of the cultural aspects of Dr Lazarus' species. And yet, when he dies, almost everyone gets a little choked up, or just straight-up cries. There's so much sincerity between Quellig and Alexander. He was never a "fan" of Dr Lazarus, because he thought that was a real person. And it was someone who, while having never met, had taught him so much, improved his life. When he says, "I've always considered you, as a father to me," we know he absolutely means it, not because he's exaggerating or because he's stupid...it's because it's as true as it could ever be. The Thermians have grown up with the show, just as its fans did, but to the Thermians...to Quellig...it was all real. And we see how much it means to Alexander, too. He resents everything about his character Dr Lazarus, right up to that very moment when Quellig gets shot. And then as Quellig speaks his last words, Alexander finally realizes not just how important his role was to Quellig, but how important it's been to so many. He, and all the rest of the cast, changed lives. And now one of those lives lay dying in his arms. And so he speaks the one line he'd always hated...but now cherishes.

all the actors from the original star trek series had great responses to this movie. most of them loved it and how on point it was to Star Trek, most of them commenting on how well Tim Allen did portraying the captain. all except William Shatner, (Captain Kirk from the original series), he said he liked it except he couldnt understand who the lead character was supposed to represent.

Fred aka "Chen" is supposed to be a stoner, which is why he's mellow/just letting life be, which explains his open minded love life.😂 Sadly Studio wanted Family Friendly, so only hinted at.

Some stuff you might not get... Jason/The Commander - is a parody of William Shatner/Captain Kirk. Shatner had a reputation for wanting to be the center of attention, which sometimes annoyed the other cast members. He had several shirtless scenes in the show, which people often make fun of. He also once went off on a fan, much like the character in the movie, telling him to get a life and that Star Trek was just a TV show. Alexander/Dr. Lazarus - Is a parody of Leonard Nimoy/Mr. Spock. After Star Trek, everyone associated Leonard Nimoy with the character Spock, which greatly annoyed him, because he wanted to be known for more than just that one role. He even wrote a book called I Am Not Spock. He later softened his attitude and accepted that the fans loved him for that role, eventually writing another book called I Am Spock. Guy - Is a parody of all the guest stars on Star Trek who would show up for one episode to play a nameless crew member and then get killed off. The fans - They're a parody of all the fans who obsess about TV shows like Star Trek. Fans will debate all the fictional details of a show, draw plans for the ships, create replicas of the props, etc. When Jason is facing the rock monster and they tell him to try and make a weapon, that references an episode of Star Trek where Captain Kirk was alone on a planet with a powerful enemy alien and he had to make gunpowder, and a small, crude cannon to defeat him.

The alien planet with all the orange sandstone “hoodoos” is a place in Utah called Mushroom Valley or Goblin Valley (depending on who you ask) and is one of the coolest natural rock formations ever. It’s also an amazing place to take mushrooms.

Galaxy Quest is a spoof of Star Trek, and a very well done movie. Star Trek, it amazes me just how many people and know of and love Star Trek. And Galaxy Quest has a huge following too. Never give up, never surrender!!!

I've heard that Patrick Stewart (Jean-Luc Picard) refused to watch the movie (believing it garbage) until a couple of Next Generation cast members talked him into it. He loved it. Coincidentally, 18 years is about the time that Star Trek: The Next Generation appeared after the original series was cancelled. The movie has been called a parody, but it's more a love letter to fandom in general, whether Star Trek, Star Wars, Buffy, etc. Fun Fact: Sam Rockwell screaming after the first transport wasn't in the script. Sigourney Weaver's startled reaction is genuine. Watch that scene again; she really jumps. Also, it's an open secret that Fred was stoned the whole time. That's why he was constantly looking for snacks, and was so laid back.

I love this movie! It manages to poke a little fun at fandoms, without insulting them. The cast and director of this movie were PERFECT! If they'd had ANY other mix of writers, director, or cast, this would have been terrible... but, they absolutely nailed it!

"Galaxy Quest" does a great job of spoofing both the Star Trek series' as well as the cast behind the shows. Although knowing the history would add reference depth for viewers, it is not needed to understand and enjoy this classic movie.

I love this movie so much. I grew up more or less Jewish, so we didn't really celebrate Christmas, so we always went to the movies on that day and I saw this in theaters. . . 20+ years ago.

I love this movie. The making of this movie on Netflix is also very entertaining. Love every scene involving Sam Rockwell. Every line of his is classic. "There's a red thingy heading towards the green thingy. I think we're the green thingy." "Is there air? You don't know." And I love how he was the only one standing unscathed in the massacre on the command deck.

One of the language options on the DVD is the Thermian language. You can watch the entire movie in that language.

I hadn't even heard about this movie until after it's release in theaters. It was on the cable tv channel HBO as a new release. I read their description of it, thought it sounded interesting, so I waited for the next showing in a few minutes. I laughed and laughed, being a slight star trek fan, so got the jokes. I thought "Why have I not heard about this!?".

Interesting facts: 1. NTE stands for Not The Enterprise. 2. The conversation in the bathroom actually happened to William Shatner (Capt. Kirk) at a convention. 3. When everyone was being killed, the only one that didn't die was Guy after saying that his character was expendable.

There's also a comic Not-A-Sequel-Fits-Between-Scenes-In-This-Movie story released, AND a more recent follow-up after that was a hit!

So glad you liked this one! This movie was a funny valentine to all Star Trek fans, and a fun movie even for people who don't know Trek. Another cousin to this one is the series "The Orville."

This is one of the most underrated movies ever. It should be regarded as the comedy classic that it is.

The really hilarious thing is the whole plot is kind of an inside joke in itself. An alien society modeling itself on "historical documents" that turn out to be fiction was the plot of Original Series Star Trek episode "A Piece of the Action" where a more primitive civilization got ahold of 1920s/1930s-era Mobster novels, mistook them for significant historical/religious documents, and modeled their entire civilization based on those works.

There is a legend among Star Trek fans that this movie broke the Star Trek movie curse. For decades, odd numbered star trek movies were bad, while even numbered star trek movies were good. Then suddenly, we got two bad star trek movies in a row, and then the odd numbered ones started being good, while the even ones were bad. What changed? This movie came out between the two bad star trek movies, becoming the good even numbered one.

You know that this movie perfectly nailed the "parody" aspect when old Star Trek fans who grew up with the show, saw the cast basically doing the "convention circuit" for years, completely wrapped up in the over-inflated egos from years of fans at conventions constantly praising them..... to 'non-fans' who can get most of the jokes and can understand the references to the source material's "reputation for bad TV cliches". Galaxy Quest is a real gem that sadly didn't get the attention it really deserved when in the theaters. While it was successful, a movie like this should have spawned at least a couple of sequels or spin-offs of other projects. Instead, it kind of hung around as a "one-hit wonder" (Mostly with sci-fi fans in general) to slowly being seen more and more by non science-fictions fans who also found it funny. Now, it is one of the most well regarded "love letters of parodies" to Star Trek specifically, but also sci-fi as a genre.

I was so excited to see this come up that I whipped up a quick snack and sat down to watch this immediately. This is one of my top favorite movies - my copy is out on loan to a coworker, as I am happy to spread the fun. I think this is one of the few perfect movies. All the actors were perfect in their roles, the plot and dialog was interesting, snappy, and well-paced. It is a fun movie that leaves you feeling so much better after watching. You demonstrated that in your reaction. It was nice that you did not immediately figure the thermions as real aliens, because that made the levitating limo such a revealing surprise. This works on its own and also as a great parody/tribute to Star Trek and fandom in general. A few notes for you: the Klaatu nebula mention was a reference to the alien in The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951 classic I highly recommend), the characters that get killed early in the show (i.e., Star Trek) tended to be "red shirts", William Shatner (Caps Kirk) had some rough edges in his relationships with other cast members and did have an experience of hearing about himself as was shown. Leonard Nimoy had a complex relationship with his Spock character as Alan Rickman's character did with Dr. Lazarus. ("Give him a hand, he's British" always cracks me up!) Having a child actor at the helm was a reference to Star Trek: The Next Generation, but they took it a bit farther with a younger child. I could go on, but suffice to say this is a great film and yours was a great, fun reaction video. I've been waiting for this and it did not disappoint!

Love Galaxy Quest. “Whoever wrote this episode should die!” You should watch Clue with Tim Curry. Another favorite

This movie is so funny, It has so many great one-liners that I love, "It's a rock! It doesn't have any vulnerable spots! Could they be the miners? Fred Kwan: Sure, they're like three years old. Sir Alexander Dane: MINERS, not MINORS. “Sure, they’re cute now. In a second, they’re going to get mean, and they’re going to get ugly somehow, and there’s going to be a million more of them.” -Guy. Gwen: Look, I have one job on this lousy ship. It's stupid, but I'm going to do it, okay?
