Well the Ultra has much more new features and here in Holland the S23+ is just way too expensive for what you get. For me it would normally be the compact s23 but I couldn't resist a crazy T-mobile deal for S23 Ultra 1tb (just 60,- more than 512gb after cashback). With carrier discount, a 240,- cashback and a Watch5 lte I'm paying only 850,- for the 1tb Ultra while the S23 256gb (with only 60,- cashback) is still 800,-. So I went for the ultimate big boy 👊🏻
I'm loving my S23+, fits in the hand nicely, excellent battery life, camera is good enough if you don't need zoom, and gaming is sooooo goooooood. God I hated Exynos on my S21!
@@jonasgarcia3668 around 12%, had it taken of charger at 5am and used it for navigation for an hour, a few minutes of gaming, a few hours of RU-vid, and a lot of chat. If I used my S21, I would be charging a 2 times at least.
Very impressed by the plus. The difference is only noticeable in low light but it's not even big at all and I surely won't be using 8k at night so I'm pretty happy that I went with the standard S23, really loving this form factor and the value.
The ultra is definitely fantastic but the plus isn't far behind at all. I mean even in zoom, it holds up quite well provided there is enough light. Glad that Samsung isn't putting huge gaps among their flagship models. But, ultra is definitely ahead.
Quite impressed that the 200MP sensor is able to capture ever so slightly more light, especially in low light video. Double Quad debayering certainly helps as does the bigger sensor size. But apart from that the regular S23 performs pretty much the same.
200 MP 4×4 and 50 MP 2×2 means pretty much identical chroma resolution and I guess that's the main reason they don't seem too different when it comes to perceived detail. I wish no sensors ever went beyond 2×2 Bayer.
Never thought it would be this close. Wanted the best camera, so I bought the Ultra, but I like the form factor of the Plus more. But I'm happy with the Ultra.
S23+ in hand here. Fantastic phone. Easy to hold in hand, premium feel, great battery life, great performance, great camera (sometimes I miss my Pixel though). Ultra is just too big for a daily use in my opinion.
Thanks. I'm trying to decide between the 23plus and 23 ultra. It looks like the ultras main advantages are in zoom detail, night time modes and video stabilzation in low light. I was hoping that the plus may do a little better in dynamic range and white balance to make it more similar to the pixel, but these seem to show the regular Samsung effect.
Oh no nothing will compare the Pixel shots. After using the pixel and the s23 ultra and Plus, I noticed the pixel always took nicer, sharper, and clearer shots, but that's Pixel, they're always took good pictures.
@@hobbitpsiThey do take great photos for sure. Their video is improving with updates also. It is just a shame the rest of the devices are second rate in so many ways and not up to their camera system level. Second rate chips and battery life issues and charging speed limitations and thermal problems under heavy load and too many glitches in daily use. All this makes them cheap for a reason (excluding the ludicrously priced Pixel Fold).
@@neilmcguinness4422 See, I never had any of those issues with my Pixel 7 pro. My battery would always be at 40-50% by the time I went to bed and it never once got hot on me. The chipset, while yes is an old exynos chip, ran everything quick and fast for me including games. Charging speed is never a big thing to me especially for the Pixel, because the only time it was on the charger was when I went to sleep at night. Far as glitches, the only glitch I've ever experienced on the pixel was the modem issue, where connections would drop or I wouldn't get texts or calls sometimes. And I agree about the fold, however, it must be a good device because if it wasn't the facebook marketplace would be flooded with them, but they aren't.
My wife has the plus I have the ultra. The new sensor on the ultra has less noise and a slightly sharper image while pixel peeping. I tested both cameras side by side in the default 12mp mode. These tests in the videos are not apples to apples. You can't compare 200mp mode to 12. As of Feb 23 the 50mp and 200mp modes dynamic range is blown out and smooths the images too much. These two modes do reduce noise greatly though. Hopefully these two modes changes with updates. If they can fix the smoothening and dynamic range these two modes will be amazing.
Mp does not matter. Distance of viewing is what matters. Giant billboards are usualy put up with only a few mp ranging from 5-16mp. All the 200mp allows you to do is crop more. I can say for sure my 24mp full frame cinema camera has sharper images then any 200mp shot I've seen.
Happy to see s23+ not having that weird fade when taking pics of food. Had to switch my s20 ultra because of how weird it took photos of food regardless of how much megapixels it has.
Great comparative video. My wife and I both upgraded our S21 ultras to S23 ultra and we're very pleased with the camera performance. As someone who shoots both night and day I'd say the additional price is worth it - and I'm very fussy and picky with my photography.
Very small differences between the 2 but Ultra definitely still seems worth the difference for the S-Pen, bigger battery, bigger screen, more RAM options, better zoom and night performance and of course ... alpha omega supreme galactus status
Not changing phones this year but dropped by to say thanks for your comparison videos! Definitely helped me decide on phones every time I decide to upgrade.
Great comparison. Satisfied my FOMO that 23+ was more than enough for my needs and I'm not missing anything (camera wise) from the Ultra that I may realistic use! Great shots of London... Made me want to get back!
If you're trying to see if there's life on the Moon then maybe the Ultra is the phone you might want if you're just using for daily activities and don't care about life on the Moon then maybe the Plus is better awesome review Mister Winget
The biggest advantage of S23U is telephoto camera. But photos from main camera seem little bit flat (too light) and lacks wider dynamic range. It needs some tweaking, hope Samsung will do something about it
I went with the Ultra for the S Pen and the screen resolution and increased RAM. Both the Plus and the Ultra have superb camera systems that will delight anybody. Any photo and video advantages that the Ultra has over the Plus are minimal and subjective. In some cases the Plus does deliver better results. I actually think both devices are good value for what they offer. Own either device and you should consider yourself lucky.
The S23 Plus does it good enough. Its a fantastic device. It will be my next device later this year. Currently on the S21+ Thanks for this video, and best regards from me, Amsterdam, The Netherlands 🇳🇱
yes it is true that the processing seemed better but don't forget that samsung will drop updates to improve the 200mp sensor capabilities (and even for the other lenses i'm pretty sure)
Danny..dd you turn off the scene optimizer on your Samsung S23 Ultra? I notice it will take a clearer and more natural color pictures when is off. Thanks for the comparison video.
In theory, the 3x telephoto lens, the ultra-wide lens, and the front camera are the same on both the S23+ and the S23 Ultra, right? the difference is in the 10x telephoto lens and the 200mpx sensor, right?
90% the same camera. The only real difference is 10x zoom lens and a bit less noise in low light videos + more shallow depth of field. It's that extra 10%.
Damn I wish I could've seen this a week ago lol. I had a very hard time choosing between the base S23 (one hand usability) and the S23 Ultra (camera features). This is coming from an S21 Ultra, of which the size I've grown a bit sick of. I ended up going for the Ultra again.
Thanks so much for the in depth look at the camera features on both Samsung phones. I'm surprised that Samsung pays so much attention to the camera features. I would have thought that the phone features (reception, clarity, voice, meetings) would be the biggest improvements.
I had the s23 ultra and now I'm on the s23+. I much prefer the plus over the ultra. Yes some shots are cleaner in the ultra, but the trade off I noticed is while they're sharper, a lot of shots were darker than the Plus which lit up more of those darker spots.
@@anibalhuneeus Why? Because the majority of the features on the ultra were pointless to me and I never actually used a lot of them.. Far as battery life goes, I get the same battery life a day on the s23+ that I did on the ultra.
How do the displays compare and hand feel? I ve compared them both in the store and maybe the display of the ultra in QHD is a little bit sharper but everything else seems better or the same on the +.
@@aks13v35 Everything on the + is the same as the ultra except of course the size. And personally I think the plus feels better in hand than the ultra does.. Maybe it's the ultra is too big and the plus is just the perfect size. The only thing the ultra has that the plus doesn't is the s-pen and the bigger MP camera.
@@hobbitpsi yeas, the size of the ultra mainly because of the sharp edges. With case it will be even worse. Also is very top heavy compared to the 23+. Also I've compared the macro on the cameras and it seems the + is sharper even if the ultra goes a little bit closer. Also up to 30x zoom seems the same and regular photos also are the same for me. Tomorrow will be taking my s23+, upgrading from S9+. Thanks
More MPX does not mean "more better". This has been proven a moltitude of times. At the end of the day a good 12 MPX or 50 MPX has nothing to envy to a sensor with more MPX, lots of MPX are there only for marketing purposes and what gives the real performance is not the amount of MPX but the quality of the sensor substrate itself (in both smartphones and pro cameras) and the image processing behind (in the case of smartphone cameras). I would love to get an S23 Plus because I like the classical S design more instead of the Note lines of the Ultra, however the high price, the lack of microSD card slot and headphone jack make me stick to my S10+ for another year or more since the value is not there at all.
Thank you for the comparison. My takeaway is: if you didn't need the 10x zoom and high resolution pictures, it would be fair to say both camera systems are almost on the same level, provided the Expert raw features including Astro-Photography and Multi-exposur shots were also available on s23 Plus. I would still go for Ultra because of the 10x zoom.
I saw them side by side and i use them! S23u is a real flagship and s23 plus feels like a midrange flagship! I saw thme side by side in 1080 and the pixels were obvious on s23 plus and s23u is more vivid screen! I will go for s23u now because and the curves are minimal now
Really good side by side review. I mean surely. Most people upgrading from perhaps 2-3 year old phones are going to see significant differences regardless.
Actually no, I've compared my OnePlus 6 with gcam app to the s23 and it beats it most of the shots. It's just slower to process the pictures since it is more than 5 years old now.
I really like less sharpening on Ultra, because you can get more sharpening after in edit, but you cannot never take it away. And photos with less sharpening look more like from DLSR than a phone.
The problem with the Ultra is.. It's also ultra in heavy weight to carry it all day around.. It's time to considerate to get The Plus or maybe the vanilla one..
Can you focus more on video recording in day light? Many of us use to record family activities and trips and need good video recording, I would appreciate a video recording comparison, with your thoughts on better color accuracy, focus, microphone, while recording. 🙏 and if you can add the s22 + and ultra to the comparison it would be epic
Did you notice the photo differences between shooting with the main camera in 12MP mode to 50MP mode? I notice over sharpening and lots of detail loss on both s23 plus and ultra
Low light video and overall zoom efficiency are better on the 23U, but the 23 and 23plus are brilliant stand alone devices. They aren't cheap, and their quality shines through. Especially via their brilliant cameras.
I like the camera as much as the next guy, but I don't think I can get onboard with the size of the Ultra after using the iPhone 13 Pro Max for the last two years or so. I decided to pick up the S23+ as I tend to think it looks cleaner. We'll see!
Okay so which one is better in water resistant area. I heard few reviews where due to S pen , water got in and Samsung don't cover water damage. Camera is the only downside but the changes are not that huge. Please help.
yeah nighttime shots of moving targets, so many ruined photos from trying to take photos at night in bars with friends only to end up a blurry mess. Will be good to see what the latest do compared to the s10
If I may ask, on the 23 ultra what do you have the camera set for 12, 50, or 200mp. Am having a hard time getting a sharp photo, even with a tripod. are you using focus lock? TIA
Danny you should check out the night mode shadow details of the S23 ultra, they are worse than the S22, the noise suppression smoothed out the details in the shadow areas.
Hi Danny, do you have a selfie comparison, showing how ih focus the background is? I travel solo and often take selfies with monuments, buildings, landscapes etc. in the background and it's often either unfocused or washed out (I'm on S10 still and want to upgrade to S23!)
Did you face HDR issues with S23 (regular)? I noticed a LOT of color banding when taking pictures of the sky (sunrise/sunset). It seems the issue is Samsung's HDR since this issue does not happen if I take pictures with another camera app. When there are clouds it is not so noticeable but if there is a blue sky, the pictures are terrible! I can send some examples if needed. Thanks.
The plus is way behind in zoom. The zoom most are referring to thinking it's close is only the main camera being cropped but the actual zoom comparison the ultra leaves the plus behind by far at 30x plus
thanks nice comparison the camera are really close, maybe because of the superior hardware the Ultra can leap forward with future software updates, but no skipping the Ultra is just boxier i am tired of the rounded corner designs
you compared 2 mediocre cameras. put iphone 15 (the cheap one), and you will see huge difference in terms of details. So far, I had only Samsung (Galaxy s7, s10 Plus, s20, s21, s23). I have compared S23 with i15, I know what I am talking about
You're delusional. There have been many blind test and it's always a Google Pixel that has the best picture quality because iPhones overexpose the image.
@@dannywinget thanks danny, I love cameras on phones, I'm kinda a mobile tech nerd, I've always seen your camera comparison videos and besides I'm trying to develop my English understanding cause you speak clearly and fast as well 🙏
Ultra is just terrible in the hand. It's a block with sharp edges, curved screen where you will most likely have accidental touches, it's big as a tablet does not fit most pockets. S23 and 23+ is the reasonable choice here.
I traded-in my flip 4 to the s23 plus and I am so happy. I got it for around USD480+ after the trade-in value and the additional credit of USD200 from Samsung Philippines. Also, I was able to buy it during the "Pre-order" and since I was in the Physical shop, I was able to get it immediately and got a free upgrade in storage. I actually love using the S23 plus given its size. Although I was surprised that the ultra-wide lens is only 0.6x. I'm very much tempted to switch from my iphone 14 pro max to s23 plus but a lot of my friends and family members are using imessage. But I'm very much happy with my s23 plus as my work phone. :)
As i say in many videos,s23u have broken camera for a ultra phone.Even s23 plus have better camera.Samsung is making fun of himself 🤣🤣🤣 And many "youtubers" says it have best camera, iphone killer and other crap.Srsly people are hust dumb
Great video. Now that the world has opened back up, I'm going to concerts again & that Ultra zoom is amazing. I can't give it up now that I know what it can do. Plus I use my s-pen to take pictures & contol my music player a lot. Both phones are great though.
whenever im on facsbook messenger videocall my s23ultra front cam makes my skin really2x soft this is effects turned off and on the regular camera the filter was off so i dont know why it automatically gave me filter which is too agressive
