I've used both. And I'm on the fold5. You're losing the zoom, but gaining selfie shot with the main, a bigger screen to really make use of the s-pen, and crazy multi-tasking.
This certainly makes me consider the fold. I do use the zoom extensively on the S23U though. (In fact, I skipped the S24U due to the reduced lens (10x vs 5x).
i wish they launch Fold-6 Ultra too, with same camera setup as in s24 ultra. it will be costlier but atleast people can have fold phone with amazing camera too
As a very contented S23 Ultra owner, I am a little surprised that some Fold 5 owners seem to think that there would be any marked difference in the camera performances between the two devices, and that the 23 Ultra's camera performance would be noticeably better . The Fold 5 is the most expensive phone Samsung have ever produced and it's camera performance has to reflect this. Zoom asides, there is so little between them. Indeed, in it's recent August software update, the S23 Ultra had an AI upgrade FROM the Fold 5 to improve it's digital zoom quality. These two devices are neck and neck.
Well why would you be surprised when physically (and somewhat spec-wise) the cameras already differ that much, it's gonna influence people's perception - even more so when it's the most expensive - they'll think it's just not up to par. But you're right that because it's a flagship, maybe they did put in extra effort to make it optimal for what it has.
I would go with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra mainly because of the 10x periscope zoom lens. As an aviation enthusiast, I love taking photos of planes from afar so the 10x zoom lens is really useful. But on the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 really surprised me a lot. I was expecting a much larger difference in picture quality. There are times when I found myself leaning towards the Z Fold5 more than the S23 Ultra but ultimately, I will still choose the S23 Ultra. But to be very honest, you can't go wrong with either one. If you are more into zooming, get the S23 Ultra. If you are just a casual user who takes photos at around 3x zoom most of the time and wants a foldable phone, the Z Fold5 is a good choice. Love the comparison, Danny.
This shocked me, looks so much better than the 4 and coming from an s21 ultra, i think the 5s cameras are actually better than mine. Im not a fan of the colors of the s23u, kept my s21u for awhile because of it too
I disabled updates on my S23U in February, and I know someone who owns one with updates. I am observing the system and performance differences between the operating systems as they roll out updates vs no updates. I don't think updates actually degrade phones, but I am going to find out.
I don't think cameras are a big deal in any of these flagship phones anymore they're all great In order to make a big big difference You need a much much bigger sensor with these cameras just will never have for a long time regardless of which one
@jimgom3337 So far it has been Awesome! I was able to make it my daily phone ...the camera is good enough if you are not zooming in from far away and the screen is un matched!
Thanks so much for this video, it's perfect and exactly what i was looking for! ❤️ I think i will upgrade to the fold 5 as the 10x zoom is really just for show and there's never any pictures i use to post or share with 10x zoom. Thanks again!
I agree, in the real world, very little shooting is done at x10. The 50MP x5 lens on the S24 Ultra changes the game though. Lots of images shot at the focal length. The cropped digital 10MP zoom in the ZF5 just can't compete...
Did smb change from the regular s22/23 to the fold 5? That is a comparison which i cannot find and would be the case for me. The form factor of the regular 22 is amazing and because the fold is narrow, I think i won't have the feeling im carrying a brick around. I had an iphone max before and i cannot get used to that size. Would appreciate any feedback cus the Fold is really catching my attention. Can't wait to get it and get rid of the kindle and tablet 😅
I have been using foldables now for years. They definitely don’t fall apart in a few months. Not sure about over a year but all of mine have lasted so far. You can always get Samsung warranty on it to swap the screen if it ever breaks
It is a hard choice. I honestly like the fold form factor more but I prefer the cameras and S pen of the S23 Ultra. If I had to make the choice though and could only choose one I would pick the Ultra.
I just upgraded to a Fold 5 from an S21 Ultra and I have no regrets. I'm not a camera snob so this thing is more than fine (though I'd like a slightly better zoom lens). The only real downside is probably the battery life, which is a bit average but still gets me through a full day fairly easily.
Hello I also switch from S21 Ultra to Z Fold 5. I have mixed feeling about the camera, while the main cam of Z Fold 5 is better than on S21U, ultrawide is considerably worse. I don't miss the 10x though, the quality is trash anyway.
I have had the fold 3, fold 4, and now the fold 5. And I STILL have my S23 Ultra. I can speak from experience that the cameras on the S23 Ultra are way better than the Fold 4, but the camera is much better on the fold 5, than the Fold 4. EXTREMELY comparable to the S23 Ultra. Of course, you lose the zoom, but its not a deal breaker, just nice feature to have. I see a massive difference in shutter speed coming from the Fold 4 to the Fold 5. Much clearer and detailed photos on the Fold 5. I was pleasantly surprised. It was something that I disliked about the Fold 4.
I'm not sure if you did this, but you can use the main cameras for selfies with he Z Fold 5. When unfolded, the front screen can become a viewfinder so you can frame selfies while using the main cameras. Images shot this way are truly impressive.
Danny's been doing this a long time, he more than likely knows. As a Z Fold 5 owner myself I don't think it makes much of a difference compared to a regular phone as I always used to turn my regular phones around and use the back camera anyway. Of course the viewfinder is beneficial but all you have to do on a regular phone is look into the correct lens
@peacelove8395 true, but i dont recall seeing that unique feature in the video. Without a viewfinder your framing can be wonky, with too much (or too little) headroom. I never used the main cams on my S22 Ultra for selfies for that very reason.
@LouisCaputo i think because most people know because this was highly publicised a few years ago with previous folds, it has become common knowledge maybe that's why he didn't say. Not sure though.
Between the 2, I would go with the S23 Ultra. But I will say that I agree the Z Fold 5 is very impressive. The difference in specs and capabilities between flagship smartphones and foldable smartphones is getting narrow.
Hi Anthony. According to rumors and leaked info, the camera hardware on the Fold 6 will remain the same. Improvements to the camera will only happen on a software level (AI). Camera upgrade or not, I'm still thinking of trading in my Galaxy Flip5 for a Galaxy Fold 6 😁
Z fold series needs to match the s24 ultra specs. I think samsung should start pushing the fold series as the best phone even more. This will be the phone samsung needed to take them to the next level
I just tested the Ultra against the Fold5 for about a week side by side. I was not sure if my perception of the cameras was right. So I am pleased that Danny comes to the exact same results and conclusion. Zoom beyond 10x is hardly usable on the Fold5, but it does not really matter that much. And with all the other benefits of the Fold5 against my beloved Ultra...I am slowly replacing my main phone. Sorry Ultra, there is a new Sheriff in town.😅
But what’s wild is the 10X digital isn’t horrible on the Z Fold 5. I am betting next year we get the same setup we have on the S23 Ultra this year so that could change the perception. The S Ultra line I believe will always have the most cutting edge camera so it is what it is.
I just don’t get why they don’t put the best cameras on the Fold series also. You’re literally paying 2K for this phone and it should have all the best options. For now I’m sticking with the S series
@@dannywinget I honestly doubt that, because just how the S series has its 3 price levels set according to which you get, the S23, S23+ or the S23 Ultra and if you want to count later on the S23 FE. The Fold could just have everything because not as many people will buy a 2K phone. Honestly that’s why I never bought a fold, because it does not have the best specs on it, the S Ultra does. If the fold had everything packed into it then they would get a new loyal fold customer out of me
Nice comparison. I have both phones and prefer the pictures I take with my S23Ultra. Having said that, if I had to choose one camera phone, it would be the S23Ultra. The Z Fold 5 is great though and I enjoy the device a lot.
Great comparison. I do think that it is wrong to use the term "average consumer" here though. These phones are definitely not aimed for "average consumers". Galaxy A14 is, and so on...
I see your point. I do see many average consumers though with the S23 Ultra because it’s just the “best” Samsung makes. They don’t know how to use all the functions but they buy it because it’s the top end.
This is such a great piece and exactly what I was looking for. You nailed it - I was worried about getting the new Z Fold 5 because of the camera and now I don't have those same concerns. THANK YOU for this video - appreciate you!
I have Fold 5. I missing ip68, spen inside and periscope camera. Bud daily i preffer inside bigger screen for multitasking. I use it much more times than s23 ultra highlights. For next gen pls some widht for better work for outside screen and room for spen. 🙏
I get the reason to compare the cameras, but at almost double the price, you really buy the Fold 5 for the screen/form factor. Why will you pay double the price for a similar camera? I honestly don't consider the Fold 5 an upgrade over the S23U.
Not in the camera no but this was to show how close it actually is for the average person. People are literally afraid that the Fold cameras are bad and I wanted to do this comparison to see if that was actually true.
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT YOU CAN SEE THE CREASE ON MY FOLD 4 if you're looking directly at it in front of you I don't see it at all it's only when you have highlight and you're looking from the side. Who cares about that very minor
AFTER OWNING THE ULTRA SERIES AND NOW THE FOLD SERIES I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO A SLAB PHONE!! Whenever I go back to my girlfriend's 23 ultra it just feels so small which is bizarre The fold for such a better experience it's not even close seriously if you get used to it. I almost never shut my phone to use the smaller screen unless I have no choice Lily is not bad to carry it that way I can't even fit it in my pocket with the case not that I would do that cuz you can hold it As for the 200,000 times opening and closing which will make it last about 5.7 years or something at a hundred times a day I only open it with my phone maybe 10 times a day max.. The screen is just amazing unbelievable
The fold is the most expensive phone IT SHOULD HAVE THE MOST EXPENSIVE CAMERAS, ZOOMS AND EVERYTHING I DON'T GET IT.. AND FOR THAT PRICE THEY SHOULD BE GIVING YOU THE S PEN NOT MAKING YOU BUY IT
As for the S Pen I used to have the ultra series I don't notice any difference in drawing and productivity using the fold for or the fold five except you have much bigger real estate to draw with on the fold series. Yeah I know it has Bluetooth function with the s23 ultra but I found I almost never used that function What I want to take a picture from a distance I just say cheese with a timer
Thanks Danny for the best compare camera. S23U the king next 5-6 years. Ceazy efficient chip 10h sot, great zoom camera, amazing main camera, crazy speakers, crazy display quality. Just verry worth. Sorry for my english Bro! ❤ 200mpx its the best.
My kinda dream for z fold 5 is not the pen inside the body but definitely some 5-6k battery, as for the ultra series... flat screen and no dumb exynos in europe like it is rumoured for s24 or its a no buy . Also i am not taking pictures or videos very often , but still i paid FULL price without any discount or trade in for the fold 5 .. i could pay 100 dollars more for them to put the damn s23 ultra quality cameras inside. It does not make any sense , the phone is 1.8k ... and have inferior cameras , whats another 100 dollars if u going to pay 1.8 anyway .. u will pay 1.9 but there should not be any difference or inferiority with this prices , cmon this is absolutely dumb. As for the s24ultra rumors ... usa gets SD gen 3 .. europe is going back to their dumb exynos treating me like a peasant with inferior more battery hungry chips , absolutely no buy if thats the case.
I think what surprises most people is that the Fold 5 costs a lot more yet has a worse camera setup. TBH, most $600 phones can do a good job on photos in the daylight so quality is maybe somewhat moot. It is the expectation that if anything the Fold 5 cameras should be superior and they are not. That is indefensible and we are in year 5 so let's not defend and make excuses for Samsung especially as Chinese Fold devices are giving us better cameras. So, even though creators are pushing the Fold 5 cameras as good, that to me is a wrong take IMHO. The short answer is that for $1800 the Galaxy Fold 5 is a very disappointing camera phone and we should not defend what is not right.
This I can understand totally but you have to look beyond the cameras since you get a much larger screen on the inside and one on the outside. You are paying a foldable tax basically so it’s always going to be the more expensive phone.
One of the main reasons i bought my S23U was for the cameras. Guess i gotta wait til the s24 ultra if i want a great camera system. No way I'm buying a fold.
@@dannywinget just better focus in low light imo. Also much clearer night shots. I came from pixel 7 non pro to fold 4. I appreciate the 3x zoom but in low light it's not usable on the fold. My GF has iPhone 13 pro hers 3x zoom really out performs the fold 4 zoom, in day time they are practically the same quality. So it's all software imo
A watch has nothing to do with the kind of phones people use. Some people may use iPhones and then an android watch or the other way around. It varies for everybody, and you are making assumptions about him not using any android phone because of the watch he uses, which doesn't correlate at all for everyone. Stop spreading lies about a very trusted and good Tech RU-vidr and get off this page since you want to be toxic and rude to Danny. Grow up and educate your mindless brain!
I'm not worried about the camera being worse than my S23 Ultra. I'm more worried about having a brain fart and accidentally folding the fold the wrong way and thereby cracking the screen
