Galaxy S8 / S8 Plus: Black Screen / Display Not Coming On / Black Display - Quick Fix

If you Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8 plus is experiencing the black screen of death here is the quick fix. You press and hold both the power button and the volume down rocker until you see the Samsung logo. This is the same exact fix as all previous Samsung Galaxy phones. Even if you press and hold the power and volume down button it will take a screen shot but don't worry about this just keep holding both buttons unit you see the Samsung logo. You may have to try to 2 or 3 times.

For anyone who thinks it is taking to long DO NOT GIVE UP AFTER 1 Minute. let your phone charge for about 30 min then try these steps again while your phone is still plugged in. My phone almost took 3 minutes for it to work, be patient.

Oh my goodness, THIS WORKS! QUICK AND ACCURATE! I woke up at 3:30 in the morning panicking and confused as to why my phone wasn't working, but my LED notification light was still showing. I too, tried EVERYTHING! I just paid $200 to have my screen replaced a few months ago (smh), so I was PISSED thinking something was wrong already. DUDE! I woke up this morning and my phone was black. Like, Wesley Snipes black. I held the power button....nothing. I plugged it in....nothing. I tried different power cords plugged into multiple USB sockets (wall adapter, BluRay player, laptop, etc).....nothing. I pulled up your video and within three minutes....BAM! Hi! Occasionally, (usually around the same time in the mornings), I press the home button, which responds, but the display doesnt turn on. The only way this is fixed, is with your method (the power button doesn't turn the display on). My problem is that this keeps coming back. Any suggestions?

I had been looking around online for about 15 minutes, and also found some other RU-vid videos, but nothing that was suggested fixed my phone. I started watching this video with little hope remaining that I could fix my phone without bringing it in to pay and get it fixed! I thought my phone had frozen, then the screen went black. I realized that it was not though because my hotspot was still working, and it would respond to "Ok Google". I waited until this morning, hoping that it would reset itself or something. I was so annoyed that it wouldn't work. I was just about to call Verizon when I thought to try RU-vid. This video was simple to the point without tons of unnecessary details. It worked! My phone was reset before the video ended. Thanks so much for coming to my rescue!

I watched this after my S8+ had inexplicably gone completely black (I thought it had lost charge, but when I plugged it in, it did not start charging). I found this video online, and intially scoffed and laughed... but... this worked... I was ready to jump online and order another phone and be without a phone for a couple of days. Follow this guy's instructions, and (if your phone does not have some other physical issues like water damage, etc..) and it will work. Thanks bud. Joe

My GalaxyA51 has a black screen with a charge bolt in circle that is not really charging. I've tried the power and down button together, got the vibe and screen to come on, only to shut back down like it has no power to stay on. I've done it several times for 2 days, same. I also tried the power and up volume and got another screen with alot listed and left it on that for up to a few hrs as another video suggested if the other way didn't work thinking it might reboot (scared to push random suggestions in the list, and hoping not to lose my pics and data on it the same time) and nothing keeps it on when I power it up again and no charging works. I've used different cords, plugs and my computer. I can get it on, try to use my code to open it and before I canit powers back off. Frustrated.... :(

This was happening to me too! I taped down the volume down button first then the power button and left it for a half day. I took my phone is they said it was the screen then they said it was the mother board. Tape then down for a half day. Longer if needed

I ended up getting a new phone, I took it into the phone repair guy and he said it can only be fixed by Samsung and that I'd need to ship in to them. The Samsung rep played dumb on the when I called them and quoted me $400+ to fixed my phone..... 🙄 so disappointing because it literally has nothing to do with how we as a customer are with our phone but with their engineering defect.

Thank you so much my s8 plus just went black while I was looking at it. Mine did restart differently when I held those buttons. It gave me the option to do 4 things: normal restart, factory restart, and power off and one other I just chose normal restart and it came back on like nothing was ever wrong. Thought I was going to a repair shop tomorrow but thanks to this video I dont have to!

Thank you so much for this video. I was trying every troubleshooting method I could find to get my phone to turn back on and nothing was working. I thought my phone was dead, But when you said it could take 3 minutes of holding down the power and volume down button, I tried that and after about a minute and a half my phone is alive again.
