Just got the lenovo duet 5 as my first chromebook. 8GB RAM, 256GB storage in Australia for $460 USD equivalent. I was getting very sick of my old laptop taking so long to turn on etc, and considering what I used it for, a chromebook is more than enough for me (and less than half the price). The excellent battery life and portability was a big thing for me (camera and ability to play games was irrelevant), and everything feels nice and snappy on the duet. I was already using google chrome for pretty much everything, so moving from windows was a very easy process (if you'd even call it a 'process').
I happen to have both these tablet's as well. The multitasking on the S7 FE is better, but the screen on the Chromebook looks way better to me. Performance is about the same. The SPen is superior to the the USI pen in tactile feel on the screen. The Spen has more of a rubberized tip, so it doesn't feel like taping on glass like the usi pen. I don't play many mobile games on either, but I use the soon to be dead Stadia app on both, and being near several Google data centers here in N. Virginia, gameplay is smooth on both. The keyboard on the S7 FE came with mine and the lack of a trackpad on the keyboard really makes me use it way less than the included one. So I give the advantage to the included Duet 5's keyboard for having one. I haven't tried it lately, but connecting both tablets to a external monitor, the chromebook is able to use the full screen, while the S7 FE is letterboxed. I found it hilarious that my 12.9" M1 iPad pro, which costed nearly $2000 was letterboxed as well, while my Duet 5 (that I paid just $325 for an open box at bestbuy), could render at full screen. Apple is supposed to fixing that soon, if they haven't already. I'm also learning to code Python and the chromebook allows me to enable Linux and run the full version of VS Code, which neither the S7 FE or iPad pro can do. So to end my "in your comments section" review of both, I definitely give the edge to the Duet 5 and I grab it first, in MY use case when heading out. The battery life, OLED display, versatility of having access to linux, the play store, Chrome OS and the price point make it a must have for me.
Ive also owned both and completely agree with you. As you and also mentioned on the video, the S7 only wins if you use the Pen a lot or work with android apps only. Other than that the duet is just pretty much better on everything else
I have the Duet 5, it's a great tablet with a great screen, excellent battery life, and the keyboard is great to type on. My only gripes are the lack of a backlit keyboard and the tinny speakers.
As much as I like the Samsung a lot because of DeX, I'd go for the Lenovo. Unlike Android that cannot run GNU Linux natively, ChromeOS can. Let's not forget that ChromeOS is based on Gentoo, which is already a GNU Linux desktop distro at heart.
As someone who use Andronix on Android smartphones, you really have to miss out native hardware GPU acceleration since Termux doesn't support it. While it is possible to install GNU Linux and have hardware GPU acceleration through Termux, it's a complete hassle with no absolute guarantee of success. That's why I keep looking at ChromeOS as my next Linux machine. I'm still considering on whether to go x86 or ARM, but that's another story for another day.
I think a normal chromebook is better than a samsung tablet S range. Normal chromebook is the one attached to a keyboard and similar to window laptops design wise. Chromebook is just more optimized. Yes you miss the games on the tablet but you can do that on phones nowadays. Normal 14 inch chromebooks are only a tiny bit heavier than the samsung s7 tab. These tablets that come with the keyboard is heavy tablets, comparied to the apple mini 2021 ipad. The keyboard is fimsy and can not be put on your lap, if you need keyboard. The s7 tab is a hybrid of half tablet and half laptop but not a very optimized tablet and not very optimized laptop. I have a chromebook and s6 tab. I find myself using the chromebook and not using the s6 tab. Chromebooks are more optimized
I own both , and both have the pros and cons , battery on duet 5 is great but as far as experience using them , I am new to Chromebook , android is easier for me to use at the moment , until I get the hang of the Chromebook and used to the quirks of the system .
@@KiteoHatto I can answer that for you. The Spen is far superior than the usi pen. It feels more tactile than the usi pen. The rubberized tip feels more natural. Samsung notes is better than most note apps on the play store as well. So for your use case, I would definitely go with the S7 FE.
@@giftchinda7661 I use linux to run the full version of VS Code for learning Python and it runs just as smooth as my PC. So I definitely give it an a+ in that department. However, I do not run steam or anything like that, so your experience may vary if that is what you plan to do.
@@KiteoHatto S7 fe, will be more accessible to use than the Chromebook and the s-pen is better than the Lenovo's pen unless you are fully integrated into the chrome system the duet 5 is not as capable with android as the FE, there are glitches like the reviewer noted with android apps . Where the duet 5 wins battery life and video playback , one of the things that I have found really annoying about the duet 5 is the keyboard it's just really frustrating to use with no caps lock or delete and it's just slower in general to use than the FE is , even though I have the same spec in both tablets 8gb ram 256gb storage in both . I live in the UK bought the s7 FE in the USA because in the UK highest spec on that FE tablet is 6gb ram 256gb storage the duet 5 comes in the UK with 4gb ram and 128gb storage or 8gb ram and 256gb storage in the UK .
Yeah this is the hardest decision ever.... Honestly, I've been thinking very very hard about this, and I do think the Duet 5 is the better deal..... Especially with the Keyboard, big Oled Screen, it just looks so perfect. The only thing keeping my away from the Duet 5 is the 1080p res screen...
If you do see this comment, I need some more help deciding. I'm a student that wants to take notes, be able to do some light word or Excel work, enjoy some media viewing and speakers for music and when I get home to my beefier pc, use the tablet as an extended monitor. Which device should I go for?
After months of having both, the only thing that's better about the Duet is the Battery Life, FE wins in every other. Duet speakers are a joke, the hardware is super cheap and my Duet screen broke into piece when I dropped it on the couch. Glad I have the FE, it's been pretty good to me aside from battery life.
I need advice. I own the tab s7fe and samsung was giving 500 trade in for it(I only paid 250.00) and I got 100 off so I'm paying 300 for the tab s8 plus. But now I'm thinking maybe I should buy this instead for 379.00 and keep my tab s7fe. What should I do?
Well the s8 plus is just a better version of your s7fe so depends on want you are wanting. The chromebook duet 5 is good if you'd rather have a chromebook than android tablet. You'll probably be using the web version of stuff more on the chromebook.
I assume that the Samsung has a GPS receiver but not the Chromebook. Both should handle android mapping apps, but only the tablet will be able to accurately tell you where you are when out and about.
The Chromebook is more web based even though it does have some android apps so I would probably lean towards that one but I don't use Microsoft apps very often
His battery test is so far off compared to so many others . The s7 fe battery tests are so much better on every review I've seen , given it 11 plus hours . I think he may have gotten a bad battery.
The s7 fe has a total brightness of 532 nits . The duet 5 's brightness only reaches 400 nits . Less brightness equal greater battery life for the duet 5 . This test would be unfair .
@@jamesalexander3631 I run both my Duet 5 and S7 FE at about 50% brightness. The S7 FE has a higher resolution at 2560x1600 than the Duet 1920x1080p, so I get it that the pixel density on the FE is superior and naturally uses more battery life than the Duet. The max brightness on the FE normally is 432, but can boost up to 522 nits in bright sunlight. But in regular use the 32 nits of brightness in negligible. Pixel density is much more impactful than the nit difference. That said, I would love for you to link a video where the FE lasted longer that the FE. I'll even do my own battery test and test the FE with the brightness turned all the way down, against the Duet at full brightness and give you the results.
I don't know man, the Duets processor is just not on par with the Wifi Version of the FE, and for the drawing, the S Pen is far far better. It's actually a very tough decision. And only 1080p res on the Duet.
basically duet 5 has better SoT bc its oled and it has a lower res, also since it has full chrome, its better for web browsing. also supports x64 emulation meaning you can run some desktop apps on it, its unstable tho but its there, also its gonna be able to be used for pc gaming with steam on chromeOS s7 fe (wifi) is for mobile gaming as the snapdragon 778g performs stellar in genshin and pubg m/ns on ultra, also lcd is more color accurate so its nice for drawing, the spen is better than the lenovo precision pen so it does better on note taking
@@lbozo8851 are you sure you don't want to consider buying the normal tab s7 instead? Bc thats already priced around the tab s7 fe (wifi only/snapdragon 778g) and duet 5 if i remember correctly.
