I've been observing my polyp for 3 years now - it's steady at 2.6mm. I used to get extreme pain. I've been researching for natural ways of helping with the pain and to try stopping the size increase. My pain has lowered after doing consuming a herbal tea. This should also help with bowel polypses too. Ingredients; Dried chamomile, bay leaves and mint (all dried). Prep: Boil a small tea cup of water. Add a pinch of all ingredients (not too much as the taste will be quite bitter) to the boiling water. Let it boil for around 8-10 minutes (do not go over 10 mins). Let it cool down a bit and drink it while it's warm 5 minutes before every meal throughout the day (twice if you eat twice daily, three times if you eat three times daily). Consume for maximum 14 days. After 14 days, take a break for 7/10 day period. Repeat the cycle as much as you want. In a few months, it should help ease the pain. I can't guarantee this will work for everyone but it has massively helped me and you should feel an improvement after a couple of days. You might get weird cramps and a lot of activity during the first few times you consume it.

Update: just had my scan again and the polyp is gone. I can't say for sure it was because of the herbal tea above but it definitely does help with the pain.

I think you can influence polyps. I increased my fat intake and in that time the gallbladder polyp grew.

I had my gallbladder out 2 years ago. I also have PSC. Apparently my polips were 1.5cm. I changed my diet with tumeric, dandilion, eating bitter foods and got my bile flowing. I felt better but was still advised to remove my gallbladder being a cancer risk. They removed it only to find not one single polip. Shows how wrong this advice can be. I wish i never removed it but i let docters scare me.

@amalben7170
@amalben7170 21 день назад
@Amar_Indian no, since the size is less than 1cm, there is no risk. Mine is 4mm, and I was told by my doctor to do ultrasound every year to check the growth

A month after I gave birth I started to experience pain on right too side. Found out I had 2 polyps in gallbladder. One was 5.5mm and the other 4mm. Got checked again 3 months later and they grew. 7mm and 6mm, I will be getting surgery soon. Im worried they are malignant since they grew so rapidly.

Thank you doctor for a wonderful and very informative video on this topic. What would you suggest someone who has multiple gall bladder polyps and the biggest one is at 9 mm for the last 6 years. The US scans have been done every 6 months for the last 6 years and the size of the biggest polyp remains around 9 mm. I know your answer would be to consult the health care provider, but I am just seeking your opinion on this. Of course the final decision will be from one's personal health care provider. Much appreciated and look forward to your response.

Theoretically, stable polyps sub-centimetre for several years is a good sign. There is no good science to predict risk of malignancy going forward. Other factors have been discussed in the video (age >50, ethnicity, symptoms and or presence of stones etc.) which would nudge one towards an operation. Although it would not be unreasonable to consider gallbladder removal, that said, in the absence of firm evidence, it is going to come down to 'risk appetite' of endless surveillance versus an operation (albeit with a small risks etc.) to discuss with your provider / surgeon. Good luck!

@@thesurgicalscholar Thank you again for the detailed and a very help full response doctor. Ok the person in question is actually me :). My surgeon is asking me to remove my gall bladder ever since the polyps were diagnosed 6 years ago. When i ask him why should i remove it when (i) the polyps are stable and below 1 cm and there is very little chance of malignancy (ii) I have no pain or any discomfort (iii) I am happy to continue scans every 6 months To which the surgeon doesn't give me any convincing & solid reasons for his advice on the removal of my gall bladder. He simply tells me that (i) you dont need the gall baldder (ii) it will save you from the hassle of scans every 6 months. I am looking for a more compelling argument before I go ahead removing an important organ of my body. What would you do if you were in my position doctor?

Please always check with your healthcare provider. Polyps with out risk factors and smaller than 10mm with out symptoms do not need treatment but surveillance is required.

Hi doctor and thank you for your very informational video. I was having doubts if having my gallbladder removed was a good decision for me. In my case were 2 polyps, one 2mm and the other 9mm. The bigger one grew 1.3mm in 6 months. I’m very young (24) but I was very close to the 1cm limit and it was already growing. So I think removal was the right choice, wasn’t it? Thanks for your video.

I am unable to provide treatment advice on this forum. In general, gallbladder removal ought to be considered for a polyp that is growing or is associated with biliary colic / pain.

I attended my GP February 2022 with lower right quad pain and she sent me for a scan, Polyp was discovered and at the time it was 12mm. One year later and I'm still waiting on surgery, I've recently been told it's a further 2 year waiting list. What is the average growth rate for a polyp?
@thesurgicalscholar

Please pursue this with your GP and have your surgery expedited. You should not be made to wait for an operation.

Good evening dr.. I’d like to know is patient has been found to have multiple polys , biggest being .7 But have completely switched diet to organic and grass fed foods, no surgery and carbohydrates. Has converted to eating omad “one meal a day “ and has also done a 4 day fast to enhance autophagy, can just monitoring the gall bladder be suffice , without initial surgery?
@thesurgicalscholar
@thesurgicalscholar 2 года назад
I am unable to respond to individual patient queries. Please discuss your situation with your healthcare provider. In general, diet has NO influence on adenomatous (that is true) gallbladder polyps - period.
