Forgive me if I didn't cover all the sounds you wanted to hear.
Because of more sound controls and options on Gallien -Krueger (two different clean channels + drive channel, Horn options, more sound filters etc, I only used clean channel on Gallien Krueger.
Also, because Piezo on Mark Bass can not be turned off, horn on GK was alway on - ''low'' settings.
Both Amps are compared in straight 12 o'clock EQ setup without any filters, and also with some filters and EQ, that I found comparable.
For full Gallien-Krueger Fusion 112 Combo sound test see my other video:
• Gallien-Krueger Fusion...
Neumann U47 Fet Mic used for the test, as D.I. (with no mic) pre EQ.
No D.A.W. spices added.

You are the only person to demo a GK Fusion on all of youtube who understands how the trim knob works!
@Jpeterson7

Confirmed what I thought. GK is more capable, strong and clear. If you throw a blanket over it, you get the Markbass. No need though, you can EQ the GK to sound like the MB if you want...

Thanks, that confirms my experience. Played many years GK-Neo 12s and many years Markbass CMD 121p+Traveler112. The emphased high mids of GK are perfect in a rock setting. Markbass fits better to jazz/fusion with more organic, warm sound.

@@ishta I know, like many other double bass players but he used the discontinued mb150 which is not the signature sound of GK. Double Bass amplification has it's own requirements und that mb150 helped. E-bass Amplification is a different animal. There are very few jazz/fusion e-bass players seen with GK and many on the Markbass side.

Oh man. This comparison was absolutely well made. They both sound killer but also the Markbass can be had used for half the price of the GK. That being said, the GK has transparency like no other, while the Markbass has a really nice low mid thing going on.

But I think the GK could be made to sound like the MarkBass. I don't think the same is true the other way around even with the Markbass treble cranked. That said I would probably like to make the GK sound more like the Markbass in general as it has a really nice low mid punch and certain musical smoothness. But it will never have that clarity from what I heard. GK has plenty of clarity on tap that dialed enough out with the right mids would be the best of both worlds IMO. Great demo, both amps had a well represented voicing.
@kaplanyx
@kaplanyx 6 месяцев назад
@@nosuchperson284 That's what I tried and it didn't work. The Neo-112II cabs provided an agressivness and glassy sound you coudn' t dial out. Now I use Markbass + Faital Speakers.

Both sound good, but different. For me it would be the GK all the way. The Markbass is just too nasally and "boxy" sounding for what I like to hear. That's exactly the way I felt when I bought a Markbass amp--just "dead" sounding to me. Not that it sounded horrible, but just not my thing; so I returned it and went with a Fender Rumble. My next amp will either be a GK or Mesa Boogie.

Very nice comparison again ! Like other comments, to me too the GK is more midrange focused and very clear. The MB has more bottom and it's warmer. At 1 or 1,50m the sound can change too. The goal is to listen correctly what we are doing ;-)

I have owned equipment from both companies, and you really can't go wrong with either. Old rig, GK 800 with a 2x12 neo cab and a single 15. It sounded great. Current rig is the Mark 800 head with a pair of 2x10 traveler cabinets. It sounds great.

I play a Markbass Little Mark head through a GK Neo cabinet. I'm pretty happy with that setup. I like the lows and midrange on the Markbass, as well as its simplicity. I can see a person wanting the fuller frequency response of the GK, but I like the more classic sound of the Markbass.
@DanieleK-jn3gh
@DanieleK-jn3gh Месяц назад
I am going to get a similar rig. How would you define the sound of a MB head pumping into a GK neo 212 cab? MoRE MB low mid, more GK clarity, or a new thing?
@jkf9167
@jkf9167 Месяц назад
@@DanieleK-jn3gh I never have used a Markbass cabinet with that amp. It sounds. It's definitely an MB sound. It has a little more "guitary" presence in the upper mids compared with a lot of cabinets, but with the MB head, it's not that pronounced. The main thing is how efficient it is, which is very.

Bass players never play a gig on their ownsome lonesome. The only way you can evaluate a combo is to hear the bass being playing along with a band. This video just tells me the GK has more of a top end bite than the Markbass. I have owned both GK and Markbass amps and they are both excellent and have very versatile EQs.
@the80386

I prefer the warmer and more 'old school' tone of the markbass. GK is a bit too bright for my taste, almost as if it's trying to compete with guitars.

Just a quick note, no offence intended. You have the U47 facing side on to the amplifier and so will be missing the full bottom end response - and you will have a coloured mid range. The U47fet is a cardioid mic and the front is where the logo is. If you are using a valve 47 in Omni mode you could potentially turn it on its side - but I still wouldn’t if I wanted the most accurate sound. Great video anyway and you could absolutely hear the character of the two amps. cheers sj.
@ObraBass

Nice observation ... however, U47 was faced as it should be during the recording. Side face is just for the pictures for the video 🙂so we do not see the mic stand at the biggest part of the cadre. Anyway, I will not take a picture that way anymore in spite of mic stand taking all the fame. Cheers 👍
