I’m still loving my Bob Gallien personally signed MB212-II. I use it mostly at home for practicing as we maintain a quiet stage at church. It’s an awesome amp and soooooo super light. Miss you much, wish we still did the CMS in Buffalo brother. Be great!
Thanks for the review! How ever I would recommend you to use a Fender bass (jazz or P) when reviewing amps since they are THE standard and everyone knows how they sound. It would make it easier for us viewers to actually get an opinion about the sound from the amp. When using basses from other companies or luthiers we don’t know if it is the bass or the amp we are listening to. All the best!
New band I joined has a MB212 at our practice studio. Excellent sounding amp. All kinds of versatility with my Lakland 55-02. First combo amp that made me say "DAMN"! Now I have to have one of my own!
I got one for a year now, pretty satisfied although loved more the sound of MB210 that i had before. However, the power is not comparable so I needed MB212II. If You use contour button or just lower the mids, You'll get a sound as close as MB210 can offer.
Doesn’t sound as good as my 800rb thru the Megoliath but it’s good enough for me at 41 pounds. Most gigs are through huge PA’s anyways. I’m excited to load up this little guy for tonight’s show instead of my beast. Sounds great. If it’s boomy, adjust your eq at amp or on bass. Loving the range of tones I can get. Thank you GK.
I've owned the first model for three years now and it never disappoints me. I'm always finding a new trick to get a certain tone I hear in a band. Really it's good for just about anything. I'll have to try out the boost knob more now. I never saw the point of it until it was finally explained properly. Thanks m80.
Yes! In fact, you could get by with the 210 (350W w/o extension). Consider the excess to be headroom. If you're at a large enough gig that needs more than 500W, they'll probably have a PA system anyways
So the audio we're hearing is from the DI not the speakers? Seems a little silly since we're not really getting any representation of how the speakers sound. It seems like that was a huge miss GK.
+amnesiac1975 you can dial in all manner of sounds with GK , you can even get a natural fuzzy distortion tone with a GK with out any pedals and with out destroying the speakers. I own a GK 400 RB-III combo/stack (the combo section has 2 10's and the bottom cab has a single 15). it has the same set up as this amp as far as what knobs and sounds you can milk out of it. I really want one of these combos though, as I always favored 12's over tens and 15's and i'm wanting something a bit lighter now ( both sections of my combo-stack are freaking heavy).
I am thinking about withdrawing the amplifier part and use combo only as a cab, ofc I have to put/replace it with same wooden or plastic block and use it with better amplifier, in fact I would appreciate if it has separate inputs for connecting combo amp to speakers as other brands have..like ampeg had if you remember old BA series combos
I'm in need of a new AMP. Considering GK MB212-II Combo With 212 MBP. Recently listened to a recording of my bass amp on the right and same recording from the left. Completely different sound. My thinking is unless I'm running through the board my sound is where ever my amp is. That sucks. This option, no matter how expensive will give me balance. Anyone?
So if you was to connect this to one of the lower than 500 watt power MBP cabinets, how would it not be sending too much output signal to the other one if you are controlling all the settings from the 212 combo?
Karl Rouse the power output of the mbp would be what ever the amp power is of the mbp unit the combo only sends the eq and volume setting to the mbp combo sends the full 500 watt to combo only and mbp runs what ever watt the mbp amp is hope this helps
I love the idea of owning one of these, because of the practicality and features, but it's so boomy. Just too much muddy low end. It's not just the video, I've tried them in shops and owned the first model as well.
"Computer speakers don't do a good job of reproducing the low end"HA ... HAHAHAHA you got the wrong computer speakers then dude. Klipsch Pro media 2.1's here ... they reproduce bass awesomely real tight and clean and not farty.
