Yeah, that happened while I was at Solomon's junction past the police checkpoint. Gray car SUV trailing slow as I was walking up towards the junction another guy was walking beside the vehicle as they were asking to take me somewhere or if I needed a taxi. They had no indication of taxi (yellow or green car) I said I got it. I Stopped, pulled my box cutter razor out and again said I'm good. And I said "ain't no kidnapping or assault today!", loudly so that people around me can hear me. And "Have a nice day!" The reason I stopped is to allow the follower to continue without having the ability to grab me from behind.. And that was it. BKLyn all day everyday. Never ever and always be ready like you said. Be safe
The way she describes these places, there is no way, that I would ever go there, even to visit. If I were already there and experienced this what she's describing, I would move. She backed all the way from the sidewalk so someone couldn't grab her? They can grab her anywhere! So sorry to here what has happened to her RIP.
I am a Gambian born and raised and giving rides or lifts is a culture in The Gambia is common I myself lost count how many times I;ve been giving rides, and I've given rides or lifts to many people as well. But I understand your concern since you come from from a place where it is not the norm
@@jayjallowworldz jallow,I'm a Gambian too as well .what is fact is not culture who told u that. Tinted glass car 🚗 even me as Gambian I will never ever jump in it.i don't want talk to .she is a woman respect her concern.
Wow! I agree with you it can happen in Africa, just have to be careful, even though I’m moving to Africa! US is worst though, you just have to be careful everywhere! Thank you for letting us know.❤️🙏🏽
Remember to get license plate numbers. It could be crucial. Thanks for sharing. And let no one take things for granted. There are bad people in every corner of the world.
I appreciate YOU and your comment I did not look at it that way. WE have to follow our Intuition when something doesn't feel right listen and act accordingly. You are the only one that will pay the price if you don't!
@@AnjaAfreeca2020 I hope my message was received in a good light. (Not stating the “clicks” but rather we ‘hear’ you; and, I was delighted to know so many listened). You have always been kind-hearted and this is yet another show of why YOU are appreciated. So nice to see your smiling face and know that you are safe. One❤️
Thank so much for sharing Sis because a lot of us that have not been to the Continent will think it's okay to except a ride since they are known as the smiling coast, but be aware.
Wow very interesting have the same unfortunate reality happened 16yrs ago in Toccoa ga brother of mine get to Macdonald s restaurant teenagers ask for a ride never made it back to campus got car jacked and killed by little ignorant kids very sad
Being careful is okay, but one of the first laws of survival anywhere but especially for an African American in Africa is to go nowhere alone. Coming from the states its hard for me to believe that we are this nieve, or get so comfortable in Africa that we let our guards down. We should always travel with one or two people for safety reasons. Just a little advise from an old street soldier. Be careful and stay watchful.
Powerful Message, very important Powerful sister. I am happy you are safe to tell and educate, warn us with this story, Much Respect. Keep living your in the best place on Earth, the Continent.
Thank you for sharing. The golden rules is to take the same precautions that you would in your own country. Your 1st instinct is always the best. You could of been👁 when you got off the bus.
It's normal in the Gambia for people to give free ride.. don't worry Gambia is not that dark environment, The Gambia is nickname the smiling coast of Africa and to be honest with you I strongly believe that those people only wanted to give you a ride and nothing more
@@Yh-vi2sv the security you enjoy in the Gambia can not be found anywhere in West Africa... despite the fact that there no much money but the people matain some kind of sense of humanity...
@@meldawilliams1636 to be honest with you,, during the time of Yaya jammeh... Gambia was far better than as it's today... but then people want more freedom and exposure and the result is very disturbing
@@meldawilliams1636 anywhere people live with bars on their windows doesn't need explanation. She was smart and aware being from a city, but it's still not enough! Heartbreaking. RIP 😔
Gambia during previous decades was very safe to give and receive free rides as it was mainly occupied by natives but not anymore. It is now a global community from around Africa and the globe also natives' behaviours are also changing to what is happening globally so a different Gambia is gradually evolving.
It's a normal thing in Gambia, no worries here. From the turntable going to brufut end people usually give rides. Your concern is understandable but nothing to worry about
Hey sisters yes of course you have to be real with your experiences it can help other people as well and am thinking as a group what do you think about coming to a common solution about it like getting a car amongst yourselves with people that you have an agreement with and one of you can probably drive eachother for your errands or whoever feels like driving who is the most active in the group can maybe volunteer help solve your transportation needs you can maybe develop the habit of communicating through your mobile phones that means that you can get to collect each other's numbers so that you can also be able to collect eachother when in need or you can have a friend come and pick you up at your house and you can help with the fuel cost
a seeker I think Moudoulamin gave the best reply what he said is correct ,People should really do a better job of learning and respecting the culture of places they visit ,staying in someone's country is like staying in some ones house you have to always be mindful that your the guest not the owner
That’s not true, they don’t have ritual ceremonies or human rituals in The Gambia .. Gambians are Christian or Muslims, so I don’t know why spreading fake news.. Google a human ritual that happened in The Gambia and show me the proof…
