Salam from Bangladesh. I learned about Kora while searching about the cultures of countries like Gambia and Senegal. And I am absolutely in love with it!!!
That's the beauty of music. It transcends language and culture, speaking to us on a level nothing else quite does, even if we can't understand the words.
greetings from germany! i saw and heard a man playing this instrument on a subway a few days ago and i had to research more. it was such a lovely experience
It's the first time I heard the sound of this beautiful instrument. Simple yet powerful and mesmerizing. And the singer has a good voice. Thank you for uploading this. Greetings and respect from Türkiye.
Is trying to give a message about disable people,we should not try to emphasize power on them, because is the will of Allah,so we should not look low on them,we are all the same,
Half of the blues derives from this.. (but the pre islamic kora music) the old central western african kora music with the griots=storytellers! The other half is old irish folk music..that blended in the south US melting pot !
@@thetitanian5544 im totally not confused ! tell me if you hear anything in african continent traditions that has that slow blues minor twang? Blues is definitelly a music genre that happened from a blend of cultures in the deep south of the us in the begining of this nation !
I would really like more information on these performers. At least their names, and maybe a summary of the lyrics, the language being sung, etc. It's beautiful music, and context would make it even more so.
Thank you for this I first see a Kora on tv programme back in the 70s loved its sound , I dont know what he is singing about but I feel it "Nagadef" or hello as I think it is in Gambian .
Hi! I bought Alhaji Bai konte and the kora to the USA in 1973 - koramusic.net the word you learned is in WOLOF, spoken in Senegal, Gambia and the region. The kora is a Mandinka instrument by origin, and kora griots are Mandinka - they say hello in Mandinka - Kairabe
Id love to play the kora but at times i thought the string was going to break in his face 😂 I'd be worried. Ive been whipped by a string or two before 😊
Hi this man is amazing he s speaking local language called mandinka in Gambia the lyrics is disabled people an the normal people are all equal in the eyes of god if I have time I will translate it more to you
m.alik same story for me bro, im here in germany trying to connect to my fathers side of my family. they all say the very best way is to come to gambia and learn it there with the people! you apparently can get english-mandinkan book guides for learning there, maybe there are some online too for order. nice edits btw ✌🏾🍀
I can translate word for word but the gist of the song is about having empathy for the disabled. To paraphrase I witness that disability is an act of God, no one should make fun of or abuse them. Give them their rights and treat them with kindness
Here is a rough translation of the lyrics, I have omitted some of the phrases which are repeated through out the song but hope this will make some sense Lang jurkoh mingbe tengting Literally means a disabled person as he or she is. But the more accurate would be the state of a disabled person Allah lo dahreng It's god's creation Nbeh nga sadayo koh Allah la dahreng We all witness it god's creation or doing Lang jurkoh mingbe tengting Allah la dahreng nga sadayo koh Allah la dahreng Paraphrase I witness that being disabled is god's doing Allah la dahreng nga sadayo koh Allah lo taykeh Just another way of framing the previous phrase but it's the same meaning Lang jurkoh la kumboh The cries of a disabled person Ning mayteh balloh far Doesn't this make you feel sad or empathetic? Nga sadayo koh Ning mo Allah la Kerr tea I witness that this is god's doing Lang jurkoh la waarseo The condition of a disabled person Ning mayteh balloh far Doesn't this make you feel sad? Alla nga Lang jurkoh bounga Let's honour the disabled Kneigh lah ygantu dee lah Let's grant them their rights ..... Sorry there's a lot of repetitions but this is the theme of the song.
He is literally saying , disable people are God creation ,and we witness that it is a God creation ! Don't you feel pity/sad for the cry of a disable? ,let's respect the disable people, give them there due right and respect in the globe . We have neglected the disable, he literally saying they deserved the best of treatment in the world
