This game was my childhood right here, long drives in the car, school bus rides, terrible family visits, my life from like 12 to 14 was totally distracted by this game hahahahaha
i like how Crawfish jam-packed as much of SFA3 as they could into a GBA game. even makes you understand how and why they had to cut off so many of the stages.
It's still got all the fighters in it too! Sure they cut stages, but they still look spanking good! Not to mention they also included the later added alpha 3 fighters like Eagle, Maki, and yun! All very true the alpha 3 game. Impressive Crawfish!
Capcom did yes, of couse, but there's an interesting story about the development team they commissioned to do it. Basically they found this project really difficult and they missed the deadline so Capcom got angry and cut off their payments and royalties. When they finished and released this game it was pretty successful... but unfortunately the development team had to close down, after all their hard work - they couldn't survive without that money.
Oh wow. This hurts. This game REALLY pulled me into street fighter. This specific version too. I feel so bad for that development team. You could see the effort and time. It played so well for a gba. So sad.
While sound was greatly sacrificed, it's quite an accomplishment to be able release such a fighting game on the GBA, with barely anything being lost (not counting obvious downgrades).
This was an amazing little port. All the characters and fighting modes. Nice graphics and smooth animations that were better than the SNES Street Fighters.
I always preferred this version because the soundtrack had more pop and character with the GBA's 8-bit-esque audio flavor...and I am probably in the minority here but I praised the omission of the announcer.
Capcom should've released "Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold" for the Game Boy Advance (with Cammy White as a hidden character), and Capcom should've released "Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper" for the Nintendo DS (similar to SSFIV: 3D Edition for the Nintendo 3DS).
I remember just buying this back in the day just to play on the go, could be the worst port but looks good for a gba game and it has lots of replay value
Nice! That's without a doubt a good version, even more considered the hardware differences! The only real downside is that you have to press two buttons similar to execute medium attacks (or whatever attack you mapped in the options menu).
Cant wait to play this on my Gameboy player. The game looks legit, Mechanics wise, Atleast from what I saw in the Console version, They did well with this port. Just hope you can do combos in this Gba version.xD Love how similar SFV is to Alpha also, Which is why these games are now on my list :D FGC forever.
Todd Jameson Nope. The reason alpha 2 suffer from slowdown is due to its compressed image on cart which is uncompressed on the fly by built-in cart processor. If capcom had opted to a bigger rom cart like neo geo ones the game would run like others street fighters on the snes...Also capcom play system is 16-bit architecture...GBA software is majority made in 16-bits thumb instruction hence nothing takes advantages of 32-bits processor data bus or except for 32-bits address bus which lead GBA somehow not to use bankswitcher hardware. ;-)
Very good port, but the fact that the music was sacrificed kills the experience for me. That is literally my second favorite thing about this Street Fighter is the music, and hearing repeated tracks in some stages where they once weren't, alongside the redone stages in general, it all feels weird. They even switched them around a lot too. I give it a 3/5, two stars shaved off exclusively for the lack of solid Street Fighter music as that really pumps me up when I play this game.
Red spit? In every alpha game? Nah dude that's blood. You notice it when a character takes a heavy hit to the face. It only shows up about 65% of the time. It was brought over from Street Fighter 2 but that one also had a puking animation for a low heavy hit. lol I always laughed when I got the puke animations. XD
Skankerman Studios I did not mean real spit, I was implying that their edits WERE spit. People seem to forget that "white blood" is actually spit, which is why the edit in Metal Slug was horrifying to watch. Seeing them explode in an abundance of spit was actually quite terrifying as it made me think they were all alien troops.
Medachod At 3:39 you can see blood on the left side of Akuma's face. But yeah I know right? But to me it looked more like they busted a nut when I shot them. Lol Wanna play blood mode? Or jizz mode? XD
***** GB basic/GB Color - 8 bit GB Advance - 32 bit DS - 64 bit PS1 - 64 bit Sega Saturn - 64 bit Untouched consoles like the 3DO and the Atari Jaguar are 32 bit but they're advertised as 64 bit
the ending got messed up, the orignal ps1 version and dreamcast one were awesome but they could have done it like the ps1 version because both ps1 and gameboy advance were 32 bit systems
The "World Tour" mode on the Dreamcast version is changed around a bit :) Added Saikyo Dojo mode, Also the DC version has some adjustments to the technicalities (altered hitboxes, move cancels, etc) Regretably, there are some missing frames in the DC version that don't seem to be missing from the Saturn version. The Dreamcast version was used as a base for the arcade version of "SFZ3 upper" Actually - player can exchange data between the DC version and the arcade machine of Upper! Overall, all versions of the game are pretty good though. Ps1 version has some polygon effects not in the other versions.
SuchWowStudios PS1 also was created with fake 2d graphics (flat shaded polygons or something else) i think that was the reason of these particular polygonal effects included on the PS1 version
Retrofan 99 Every home system after the PS1 uses polygons to create 2D graphics. That includes the N64, Dreamcast, GameCube, PS2, and on. The Saturn was the ONLY exception as while it used quads for foreground sprites, the backgrounds were actually 2D raster based. That was it’s biggest strength in bringing over arcade conversions at that time aside from the RAM cart help when used. As far as handhelds are concerned, the first one to totally ditch raster based 2D rendering was the PSP. The GBA was raster based, and the DS had hardware capabilities to do BOTH. Some DS games, especially two screen 2D titles used raster based sprite and tile graphics such as Puzo Pop Fever as it made for an extremely straightforward port from GBA. Some like Castlevania especially did it’s 2D through polygons entirely, as its engine was a modification of what they did on the PS1.
Is it wrong for me to say that the music in the GB a version, is better than the arcade version of streetfighter alpha three. No, I am out Pinyan, the music in the game boy advance version, is better than the arcade version.
wiki j you can just look up a command list for akuma's moves anyway. But his move set is almost the same as Ryu and ken's. Say for an aerial hadoken and his raging demon. The raging demon is 'LP + LP + -> + LK + HP'
I really wish they would bring this game to the Wii U Virtual Console (since it is currently the only Nintendo system that officially allows you to play GBA games on your TV). ^____^
Title should have the character played as. Some of us FGC dummies (me) don't care for Akuma. Would totally watch a Dan run, though. That said, this is super impressive for GBA hardware!
For example, pressing the X button in the PSP version of this to select Vega turns his colors into a Brunette version of him with a blue tattoo and blue leggings, whereas pressing the L button turns his colors to a pale blonde version of him with a red tattoo and red leggings
i recognize its not a walk in the park but sometimes a little extra hard work pays off. the moment they realized the music was this bad they should have just created new music based on their limitations, instead of trying to mimic the original soundtrack. This seems to be an excellent port gameplay wise, but the music clearly could have been way better. if great music was repeatedly made on the NES then it's possible on the GBA. This soundtrack is pretty bad. that said, the game looks good.
if this game was ported (to be made to a semi arcade perfect port) then it would use 16mb/ 32mb of size instead of 8mb to make the game more faithful to the orignal arcade version
You can play Alpha 3 on Switch via 30th anniversary collection. Not sure why you'd want the downgraded version outside of the extra stages and playable characters
4hm3d T2f4y1 either assign one of the buttons to do a One-Button super combo or just read a command list on how to do the super combos. For example, to do the Raging Demon for Evil Ryu and Akuma, the input is 'LP LP LK > HP'. I wish I was making that up
GBA SFA3 >>>>>>> Every other version of SFA3 I despise the announcer, the girl cast screams are utterly grading and most of the tracks are extremely out of date. Somehow the GBA gets rid of 2 problems and I normally despise GBA music quality, but in this case the outdated Techno themes mix well with the limited sound quality for the GBA. For a GBA port it's incredible how this game was able to follow up the SNES port of Alpha 2 with limitations but still be amazing nonetheless.
