I played a lot of Donkey Kong Land, Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters and Link's Awakening which were all Christmas gifts. They were my staples back then on car rides, but my favorite way to play was and still is using the Super Game Boy on SNES which was also a Christmas gift. Good times.
Great list/vid as always sir! One of my favs did not make the list. Mister Chin's Gourmet Paradise. Very simple game but I was absolutely enthralled with it as a kid.
Tetris Plus has a great soundtrack, I still remember the menu and world stage tracks all these years later. Tetris Plus, Kirby’s Dreamland, and DK Land were the first games I had
The re-watchability on these vids is so high for me. You don’t go super into every game but just enough to catch my attention and then you move on and do it again. They’re like nice sample trays! Love em
Dr Mario was my first version. Final Fantasy adventure, mega man, and mega man 3 were fantastic. I don't think I had the others. I didn't get a color til much older
The only GB game I got for X-Mas was Darkwing Duck on Christmas 92. At the time my favorite game was Kirby's Dreamland on the GB. It came out on my birthday month earlier that year! So I missed out on other releases that year due to me glued to my GB with Kirby! Super glade I got Darkwing Duck on the GB as it rocks! Didn't know they made a TMNT 3 for the GB, going to have to get that one! Thanks for the Video John & Merry Christmas! Going to play Darkwing Duck now on my GB because, I am the batteries that are not included & Let's Get Dangerous!
For my 13th birthday in November 2000, my Mom got me the GBC version of Tony Hawk’s 2 because the store had no copies of the PSone version left! I would’ve asked for the Dreamcast version but I got my PS2 on day one so I wanted something I could play on my new machine!
On Christmas 1989 I got the ultimate Game Boy bundle. GB with every North American launch title; the official rechargable battery pack; and the official fanny pack carrying case. Grandma hooked it for sure in 89.
Great video John! Tip for Metroid 2, Remember where the water is. Once you kill enough Metroids, the water will go away, opening up a new area. Just remember the water, or you'll get lost and fustrated. Trust me.
I prob put more time into and had more games for the Gameboy than I did for NES and SNES. It was just more convenient at the time with it being a handheld and they didn't let you rent Gameboy games at Blockbuster. I had a few of the Mega Man Games, some of the Mario and Wario Gameboy games, Tetris, Ren and Stimpy, Donkey Kong(the OG remake), DKL(Donkey Kong Land), Revenge of the Gator and even a Super Game Boy
Every kid in my family got a Gameboy for Christmas 1990. I also got TMNT. I'm the only one that still has it. My '91 Christmas was Metroid 2. I beat it in a day. I couldn't stop playing it 😂
I never had a Game Boy as a kid. When I asked for portable video games I got Tiger Electronics handhelds like Simons Quest and then never get more batteries for it so after it went dead, that was it.
Supermario Land was my first game along with the tetris game included the gameboy pakage, really amazing experience playing a portable handheld game back in 1989.
Really enjoying these videos, great idea. The games I got based on what you showed in the video are Super Mario Land 2 and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Thank you.
Man, I remember playing the ever loving shit out of BattleToads for the Game Boy when I was a kid. Super hard game, but super fun to play. I think I remember beating it once or twice back then as well.
it could be a cool thing for a parent to give kids retro games for their console in the chronological order of release. At least early releases first, then later releases.
I totally could, and should. By the time GBA came out I didn't get gifts from my parents anymore as I had my own job but would be cool to see what came out during those years.
i remember when the gameboy color came out it was a big game changer for nintendo. i bought the atomic purple gameboy color at target. if i remember right the gameboy color was $100 at the time.
Yeah.. my family put my gameboy presents in bigger boxes. They knew id figure it out lol. And Metroid 2 took me a few YEARS to beat. It would piss me off because I was kinda lost and id quite for a while.
If you’re still playing gameboy to this game there are hundreds of games to play to this day instead of Pokemon. Why were gameboy games in black and white? I always wondered about that.
@@GhostJammi'm curious to know what games were worth playing on the game gear? i don't hear much about it as much as other handhelds. and they used to advertise it on tv all the time in the 90s.
Great video and merry Christmas. I loved my Gameboy... I bought it very cheap with loads of games in 91/92... from a rich friend that refused to play it as it was black and white. For me in the UK the Gameboy was my first real introduction to Nintendo and Mario and so the first time I had truly sat down and played Mario and Zelda games. It was also my first console as always had computers till that point. Happy days. My absolute favourite Gameboy titles are below, would be interested if any new to you and if you try, would love to hear your opinions on it: Batman the Movie Bill & Ted Gameboy Excellent Adventure Bugs Bunny Crystal Castle, Burger Time. Crayon shin chan 4, Donkey Kong, Double Dragon, Dr Franken, Gremlins 2, Kid Dracula, Links Awakening, Robocop, Super Mario Land 1-2, Tail Gator, Tetris. Trip World, WWF Superstars ZAS (Chikyū Kaihō Gun ZAS) My other recommends for the platform are: Adventure Island 1 & 2. Alleyway, Amazing Tater, Avenging Spirit, Boulderdash, Bubble Ghost, Elevator Action, Felix the Cat, Gargoyles Quest, Hammerin' Harry, James Bond 007. Monster Max, Nemesis 2, TMNT games
Got my GBC(Yellow, no longer have it ) in 98 , more of a fan of the Sega Game Gear (The only hand held game system I am fan of,fan since 1995) I have SML2(IMO SML1 IS Better)
I hope you do video for GBA, even if you made it after Christmas. It would be shorter, but you could include multiple titles for one year, like you did on this video. Anyways, Merry Christmas.
How come your game reviews never have the game sounds and music ?? There is no copyright on a short sound bite from each game ? I feel that it takes away from the wonderful quality of your videos .... Love your channel 😊
I binged a few of this guy's videos and you can tell he doesn't check them before posting, they all have had at least 1 or 2 double takes and editing mistakes lol
It's an independant game made by a super small studio. A homebrew. I celebrate all homebrews. There are some fantastic game boy homebrews out there, this was just the one I had handy when I was wrapping a Game Boy game.
