Thank you so much! And I'm so happy that you ran this contest to begin with. I can't wait to see what more amazing things we make; the amount of creativity that appeared in this contest alone was intense!
@@JRGAMESSSBU There were a few textures I had already created, like the stone bricks and the grass, as well as the crystal animation. And I had already figured out how to do a multi-state character animation array, so the majority of the work there was just drawing the animation frames. I work handheld with a stylus, which IMO is fastest with programming AND art. And I'm part of the GameBuilderGarage subreddit, which has a bunch of experienced folk who know a lot about the ins and outs of GBG.
I'm really glad that you saw that video - I was afraid that you might give up somewhere in the middle and never see the boss (which is where I probably spent most of my time on lol) P.S. The hole that you wondered about leads straight to the first checkpoint... so you basically accidentally experienced it already in your playthrough :P Congratulations to the winner! :)
LOLOL im super glad you liked my game! (the first one) btw im not even joking, the VERY next game I made has a button that goes down when you step on it! XD
Congrats to the winner! (no spoilers) Definitely deserves to win from the games you played. For my submission, Beary's Big Debut, the troll was that you had to play the game and try your hardest to beat it, because you asked for it. It's Beary's debut, but Beary is hidden behind the curtain, forcing you to finish the tasks to get the payoff of seeing Beary... and then he gets squished and twerked on, another troll. So, it may not be exactly what you asked for or fun, but it succeeded at being a troll of a different kind. When you finished playing it, exhausted, hands on your head and laughing, that's what I was aiming for.
Congratulations to the winner! The contest was fun! For me, this was a great incentive to finally make a complete project. I habe several that are only half finished and that I haven't yet put the time into to complete them. So thanks for this. And thanks for your review!
Great creativity everyone! And thanks J&R for starting the contest! The 7 day deadline was too fast for my taste. 7 days would be fine for just the development time but announcing and starting the challenge at the same time was too abrupt. If you start another dev jam/contest I think it would be helpful to "pre-announce" it. So, there would be 2 announcement videos: 1. Announcing that a GBG contest will be held for "X week" in the future and that the theme and requirements will be revealed in the next video. 2. After 2-5 days reveal the theme (at or around the official start time). This will ensure that people get a reasonable lead time to commit to working on a game. Even if they come late there would be some buffer days from the pre-announcement, increasing their likelihood of starting a project with enough time left. But its also worth acknowledging that the way you did it for this contest did result in a lot of submissions anyway. It could be helpful if I suggest themes for the next contest but I'll leave it to you guys. I only joined because the troll theme made me think of an idea. Maybe your next idea will interest me as well.
