Your Delta sounds great! Nice job on the refurbish. I work on vintage machinery, light industrial, and own 4 DP-220s. The one that I use most is a Frankenstein of sorts with some of the best parts I took off other DP-220 along with Walker-Turner pulleys, a Baldor motor...you get the idea. The runout at the taper cannot be accurately measured with a tenth indicator. With a Rohm keyless chuck, the runout is a bit less than 2 tenths. With a bigger Jacobs 34, near .001" depending on the day. These are fantastic machines. Quite durable, too.

Felix, I couldn't agree with you more. I wouldn't trade my DP-220 for any new drill press made. Just this morning I carried home a Delta 11-280 Radial Drill Press from about 1958 that I'm going to clean up and use for woodworking projects where the 14" capacity of the DP-220 isn't enough. Doesn't come up often, but this little lightweight radial has a maximum of 16" between the bit and the column (32" capacity in drill press speak). Even before I started working on it, it has no visible run-out and runs nearly silent.

Hey Jeff, how old is that Delta Frill Press? It looks great. Also, did the two tables come with the Drill press? Never saw that before, but I like it.

Pat, If I am reading the tea leaves correctly (serial number reference I found on VintageMachinery.org) it was built in 1950. The table that the DP-PRO is mounted to is the one that came on the drill press when I bought it. It's what is known as a "production table"....larger and heavier than the standard table, and it doesn't tilt like the standard one. I bought a standard table off eBay to do a blog article on installing the DP-PRO on a variety of different tables. My original plan was to flip it back out on eBay, but I've become very fond of having it behind the drill press as a catch-all, and I've used it a couple times when I needed to drill at an angle, so I think I'll keep it. As for its condition, I can assure you it didn't look like that last summer. It was a pile of rusty, grease-encrusted scrap iron. I had a ball stripping it down, cleaning it up and bringing it back to life.

I like your videos and I look forward to each new one. Question, in your video about the DP-PRO Drill Press Table you mention using a pencil mark on the fence to maintain your zero calibration when you push the fence back. Why not a laser reference mark instead. Please let me know if I am missing something. Great tools, I have 39 and more on the way. Your tools are a great addiction.

Two questions: 1) what is the inside width and outside (mounting flange to flange) of the drawer frame? 2) Can track clamps be used in the metal channel of the DP-PRO like on the DP-PRO TCS?
@WoodpeckersLLC
@WoodpeckersLLC Год назад
Drawer frame is 16" inside. 17-1/2" flange to flange. Mounting hole is centered on the 3/4" flange on each side. Track clamps do fit in the DP-Track. However, the fence track on the DP-PRO is stopped, which prevents installing a track clamp from the front. It would have to be installed from the rear, which involves removing the fence. An alternative would be to rout a groove in the table from the end of the track to the front edge of the table.

This is a great, highly functional fence and I love the incorporated suction. It's just waaaay to far out of my budget. Got any factory seconds?? :-)
@WoodpeckersLLC
@WoodpeckersLLC 3 года назад
Andrew, we don't sell seconds, but I hope you noticed that we sell the fence by itself. It's easy to adapt to any add-on drill press table...even if that is just a piece of plywood.

I previously purchased a DP-Pro TCS table, but without the drawer, but now I''d really like to have the drawer but I see that it is not available any longer by itself. Is there any hope to be able to purchase that or am I out of luck? Plus the drawer is needed to be able to install the extension fence... not to mention the drill press table height crank interferes with the table. Love your products and love the helpful videos!
@WoodpeckersLLC
@WoodpeckersLLC 24 дня назад
I'm pretty sure that's an oversight. It should be available individually. I'll check on it Monday and reply here. Worst case scenario, you have to call Customer Service and order it over the phone instead of online. It is definitely available by itself.

Maybe in the next iteration of the tool a laser drawn line can be added so the pencil line isn’t necessary? Possibly on both sides? Good deep dive!

Excellent info Jeff, but I was wondering if the track slots are as accurate as everything else, couldn't you place a laser mark or tick from the factory where you placed the pencil mark? Heck, you could put one on either side so if there was a slight deviation you could just split the difference on either side. But I'd be willing to bet that the tick mark would lineup accurately on both tracks. This is my next purchase for my new Nova Voyager, I see you have the 36"/24" setup, do you ever or often find that the 24" fence is too short? I like the compactness of the 36"/24" combination, but I was wondering if a 36" fence is more practical. I've never had a fence on my Jet-DP17 so I'm not sure I would really need a longer fence. Thank you, Chuck
@stevepaulding9679
@stevepaulding9679 3 года назад
I totally agree. Laser tick marks that match up with the tracks seems like an obvious enhancement for DP Pro 2.0! I want one.
@WoodpeckersLLC
@WoodpeckersLLC 3 года назад
We actually talked about that yesterday after the product engineer saw my Deep Dive. He's taking a look at that possibility. Personally, I like the 36/24. The 24" reference seems like plenty...if the piece you're placing against the fence isn't straight off 24" I don't think it will be off 36! I might change my mind if I get in the habit of using the scale and stop...having 18" on each side might be nice.
@toolchuck
@toolchuck 3 года назад
@@WoodpeckersLLC I want take advantage of the sale price that ends tomorrow, but I'd like to wait until you decide to add tick marks. I'll call in and talk to one of your nice salespeople about it. I don't follow your statement. "if the piece you're placing against the fence isn't straight off 24" I don't think it will be off 36!". Can you expound a bit for the intellectually challenged? 🤷‍♂️ I feel like you're trying to explain something to me, but for the life of me I can't figure it out. 🤦‍♂️ Thank you! Chuck
@WoodpeckersLLC
@WoodpeckersLLC 3 года назад
Chuck, sorry for the weak attempt at humor. I was trying to point out that if you're using the fence strictly as a reference surface, and the piece you're putting against the fence is straight, then 24 inches is just as good as 36". If your workpiece isn't straight, an extra foot of reference area probably isn't going to do you any favors, either. The advantage to the longer fence is in using the stop and the scale further from the drill bit.
