Out of all the music in the Zelda Tears of the Kingdom soundtrack, the one that seems to have impressed you guys the most is the Colgera Theme. I was surprised not only by how amazing this theme is, but also by the references they left for long time Zelda music fans like me.

The entire dungeon had such a great buildup to it. You don't just arrive there, find it, or drop in. You climb an entire mountain, meet up with Tulin as a companion, fight your way to the summit, then you start climbing the ruins. About twenty minutes into it you break the cloud layer, and just see flying ships. Questions start building, the music starts ramping up, and then you enter the dungeon. The dungeon itself then builds up as a ghost ship in the skies becomes more and more active and suddenly BAM, Colgera. Considering the game tries to direct you to Rito village as your first dungeon, man talk about an opener.

If we interpret the primary wind instrument as representing Tulin, I'm absolutely obsessed with how the first Dragonroost section is completely choral despite being so far from the village. He's remembering what is at stake, he remembers everything the village has taught him and the legacy of the warriors before him. But in the repeat, his voice finally joins them as one of the highest in the phrase, THIS is when he knows he's truly becoming a Rito warrior, THIS is what he is meant to do. And since it plays only when there is one section left to hit in both phases, victory is so close that he can taste it! Even if it's not over yet, he knows what he has to do. But not only that!!! the fact that that instrument has the primary melody that ALSO plays the Molgera theme, he MUST be thinking that this creature is so similar to the Molgera in the Rito legends he must have been told growing up also link is there too lol (really though the song of the hero progression is present in a few places)

The composers sure know how to call back to old music without being super overt. When I first fought Colgera, I was overwhelmed by a strange sense of nostalgia, to the point of a warm fuzzy feeling in my heart, despite it being a boss fight. I couldn’t place why until I did a relisten to the music and placed the Dragon Roost melody in that final track. And that’s when it hit me. That part in particular had hit me hard and I almost didn’t want to end the fight. Wind Waker was one of my first Zelda games, and even that small callback to it in an unexpected way was enough to hit my nostalgia. Amazing music. Hey Davi! Loved your video, as always! I wanted to comment this time around to address all the "phases" talk because the source video actually got it all wrong and I'm surprised nobody said anything about it! (Minor gameplay spoilers ahead) This boss has 2 phases, but there's 6 (not 5!) music tracks for it. Why? Because, as always with BotW and TotK, the music is dynamic and it changes as you progress. This boss has 3 weakpoints you have to shatter, twice because they respawn in the second phase, so when you break one, the music changes. That means that you have one track for the battle theme until you break the first weakpoint (let's call it C1-1, which is the first one you talked about in this video), another one when you have shattered one weakpoint (Let's call it C2-1, which is actually the third one in this video) and another when you have shattered 2 and have 1 left (C3-1, the fifth one here). Surely you can see the pattern already, but let's move on. So, when you shatter the third one and enter phase 2, the music changes back to a "more aggressive" version of the first track. (C1-2, the second one here). And you can imagine the rest: A fifth track when you have shattered one weakpoint again (C2-2, the fouth one here) and a sixth one for when you have dealt with two and have one left again (C3-2, which isn't here in this video, actually!)... and that's about it! (Edit: luck be fickle, the video I linked before went private... welp. Looked up and found this other one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tteNQfN-zRs.html and the order is not correct (again) considering how it plays in the game (which is probably because some people uploaded music tracks according to the game files and not how they are actually played in game). The actual order is: 1 - 2 - 3 - 1L - 2L - 3L) Hope this helps!

You should listen to one of the themes of the Divine Beasts from Breath of the Wild, if you haven't already. If you listen really closely (in Vah Medoh you can hear it clear as day) a Morse Code that spells "S.O.S"

This makes me so happy to c u so excited about this track as well- I’ve never played wind waker, as botw was my first Zelda game; but let me say that this was my absolute favorite boss theme. I would pause each new phase to just jam for a minute or so, but honestly the music not only made the boss fun, but also made it feel like what u we’re doing was beyond heroic. Genuinely my favorite boss of all time in the Zelda games I’ve played so far

This is such a GREAT theme; the buildup as you climb higher, and higher, and higher, AND HIGHER, only to realize that you have to go INSIDE the eye of the storm! The moments of tension as you repair the ship, and then FUCKING COLGERA Blasts out of the bowels of this ancient artifact, And it keeps building, and Building, AND BUILDING, _AND THEN DRAGONROOST BLARES THROUGH YOUR SOUL,_ And it's just GLORIOUS!!!

Dammit, Davi! You're making it VERY hard to wait until the end of the month to buy my copy of TotK. I love me a battle, theme and all, that increases the tension with each "phase". In particular, this theme made me remember the bosses of Shadow of the Colossus (another game whose OST you NEED to check), and Colgera reminds me a lot to the Thirteenth Colossus, the Flying Snake. In that battle too (well, more like, in every battle), the music followed "phases". While not technically linked, the themes of the battles in SotC, you always got first an "approach theme", where you had to literally approach the Colossus you were fighting, the theme being mostly slow, sometimes mysterious, but still majestic. When you spotted the Colossus, or they spotted you, the "attack theme" would begin, with the Colossus turning aggressive, like the theme. That theme would play until you succeeded in grabbing onto the Colossus to climb up towards its weak point(s). But then, when you managed to climb onto the Colossus and you were finally ready to hurt it, the "heroic theme" would play. And boy, were those themes pure awesomeness. I get goosebumps just remembering theme. BotW and TotK take heavy inspiration from SotC with some of its colossal bosses, and Colgera is one amazing example. Heck, even its weak points are like those of the Thirteenth Colossus!

something I want to point out in Phase 5 is the relationship between the flute and the chorus. it's a call-and-response! here, the team is making it clear that they're not *just* referencing older games, they have a relationship with the series history that they're building on. and that itself builds into the overall TotK theme of community and relationships.

One of my favorite things about this song is that the underlying tempo being kept by the string section throughout the entire piece, but especially in the 5th and final section, matches the underlying tempo from Vah Medoh's theme in Breath of the Wild. The repeating 4 notes under everything else happening is truly a subtle homage to the previous game within this epic song and I love it to bits!

Lots of wind instruments, leitmotif of molgera for colgera from wind waker, ritos as birds, acordeon as a leitmotif for revali since there is a somewhat similar rito sage and when you wear the divine beast helmet the sage's spirit of tulin wears the zonai helm. And of course; dragon roost island from wind waker. It is all connected to the wind abilities of the rito.

I got goosebumps hearing the old melody again. Even if the framerate is dying for me the bosses are the best part about this game. Especially because there are big and cinematic ones but also gimmicky and fun ones. I haven’t seen all of them by now but those bosses are so unexpected and random (in a good way) that you’re always surprised at what you’re actually fighting. Also I didn’t expect too much from the OST because BOTW didn’t have many bangers due to the focus of atmosphere but TOTK‘s is breathtaking. I haven’t heard anything below a 9/10 while playing. Even the dungeon themes are something you’d listen to outside of the game again. And then there is the way the soundtrack works inside the game itself. It’s very dynamic. The 1 minute loop you mentioned isn’t even motivate because with every action the tone of the music changes from threatening to heroic etc.. Just like in twilight princess back then when you are able to attack the weakpoint of the boss but in a way way better and more seamingless way.
