Hi Thor, I know you'll likely not personally read this (maybe the mods?) but I wanted to say thank you for your adamancy and rant regarding self-medical-diagnosis around 2:20:25 It's very clear from your response that it's EXTREMELY important to you, and I wish so many more people had an equal amount of anger and zeal against it. I've had family and many friends really really get hurt from self-diagnosing. I feel the actual mature response is to become just as angry as you were regarding that, because it's a pestilence that's hurt our younger generations. Thank you for being so awesome. And thank you Mods for helping curate this community. You do an unbelievably huge amount of good work, and we're all better for it. Much love from me and my family
Hard disagree (with caveats). If it's a "mental disorder" like ADHD or High-Functioning Autism they make vetted, legitimate tests online you can take to gauge how likely it is you have it. I make 100k a year and my wife and I still don't have the money to fight a doctor to give us a referral just to be diagnosed with things that we 1. largely can't get medical help with in the first place and 2. have so many of the symptoms that even if we aren't, what does it matter? Medication requires a diagnosis. Self-understanding and changing how you treat yourself based on new information (like understanding that your issues aren't "you're weird", it's "Oh, you're pretty much a shoe-in for autism") does not. People have to be mature enough to handle that new self-knowledge and not abuse it though. If you think younger generations have an issue with this, just know that if it wasn't self-diagnosis it would be something else. You're conflating the chosen subject with the general bad behavior.

"self diagnosis is wrong, but self reflection is good" should be said more often. Only hearing the first part feels crushing and demoralising. Yes, you put the posers in their place, but in the proccess you harm alot of people who are not in a position to make big moves like this, when they actually need more reassurance.
