I never really thought that hard about map generation and replayability, and the way you explained it made complete sense and is very cool you take inspiration from games before you! Best of luck on the further devlogs, and hope to be able to play it some day!
Have you thought about using a wave function collapse algorithm as a way to mix curated terrain and randomly generated? There is some really good video's explaining it on youtube.
i like the idea of developing youre own game because you get to experiment and learm so many different sides to game development. its funny though that you really dont like the art side of it because thats my JAM and i cant imagine my fave part being the coding and more tevhnical side of it at all lol
Haha ya, I think it just ends up being what you get more satisfaction out of! I am jealous that you're good at the art though. I feel it's definitely harder to learn the art aspect than the coding aspect (at least for me).
@@ByteOfMichael I heard it depends on the Brain hemisphere we most like to use and also how much satisfaction we get from the tools. I believe coding is the harder part so that should have priority. You can always get into art stuff later or pay someone for assets. (As long as you don't overly depend on contractors you should be good.)
Hey, at least you are working on something that is generally simple. I've been at work for years on this sandbox game of mine. And yet still it feels unfinished. Keep at it good man, your goal is within reach.
Your Devlogs are honestly something to appreciate, in both learning and as just entertainment. You are so underrated and deserve more attention and love! Best of luck on the game, i’ll keep following you on your gamedev journey.
It would be cool if later on you developed some sort of multiplayer version, where each player gets a different character and you all fight against each other
You know- I've been working on a story for- and I swear to God- a game I've planned out as well that has disturbing similarities to what you currently have already. But it only currently exists on paper because of my lack of programming and artistic abilities (money is the real excuse. I don't mind paying for help). Anyway, want to hear out what I got so far? I feel like it could be a profound concept.
I like this gameplay idea actually! Would be cool if the player could invest in troops that he can order out towards one of the other kingdoms to fight. And the player could help out in the fight or carry on with other tasks
one stupidly easy way of repeatability, um, re-playability, is randomized zones, selected from pre-created pallet, instances, random room based maps, zones, somewhat influenced by progression, what spawns and what collectibles
Ya getting sufficient hardware can definitely be tough. For the machine learning stuff, you could try google collab notebooks. They let you use a certain amount of compute for free, and I've used them for ML stuff in the past. Also I think Azure has free trials.
Wow, the water looks so sailable. Just some random thoughts: What about a legend in the game that talks of a hidden mysterious land? The sea road to which is unlocked after completing some quests by those who choosed the sailor path or something OR some portal leading to the hidden land which is unlocked by those who choosed the wizard path or something.
