Ironically enough, if your NES won't play games anymore because the pins were worn out, the game genie actually fixes the issue and makes games work 90% of the time.

I always thought the game genie had connectors that were slightly too large and the lack of proper contact between console and cartridges was a result of using the game genie. I never expected the game genie to be and unintended solution.

8:12 I used to have one of these Game Boy versions. That little compartment in the back of it held a tiny little code book, so you'd always have it with you. Pretty clever design choice given that it was meant for a portable system.

I know this comment is really old, but had to chime in. I also had it too. Mine came with stickers that you could put on the back of games in case you lost the booklet.

Darkbowserdofus99 I experimented with samples and loops. They banned a video I posted, that had a backwards, modified copywritten looped sample. Not sure how they even figured out the sample I used. Wasn't for profit. You can cite a fair use law on your video, and it might work.

Got the Game Genie and the Super NES for Christmas of 1991 (yes, it was the best Christmas of my entire childhood). The first game I tested on it was Ninja Gaiden II. I couldn't believe that it really worked, that I could make myself invincible. I was so excited for this awesome little device.

We had a Game Genie for NES. One day while taking the unit out the black plastic handle broke off. So, we then had a Game genie permanently stuck in our NES. Not bad though, because if you didn't want any codes you just pressed start and it would move on and play your game. Interestingly enough, I think the fact that the Game Genie is stuck in my NES is a big reason why it still works flawlessly today. The pins in the back of the NES did not get wore out with constantly changing cartridges, and the pins for the Game Genie were made better than the early NES models.

I thought the best thing about Game Genie was that it gets around the glitchy cartridge contacts of the NES. It fits snugly so no blowing in the cartridge to get a game working.

I never had the Game Genie as a kid, mainly because I never saw it in any stores near my place. I'm kinda glad I didn't, though. It made grinding away at games so much more fun and memorable.

Did you know that the Gameboy Game Genie works on the SNES inside the Super Gameboy adapter? It doesn't actually fit out of the box. You have to disassemble the Gameboy Game Genie to make it fit. Line up the cart slot and it will actually work. I did this when I was a teenager (14-15 or so, I'm 33 now). I was shocked that it did work. All the codes and everything run as if it was on the Gameboy itself.

I remember I had either this or a similar device for my SNES, one time I tried putting my game cartridge on top but back to front and turned it on, the SNES wouldn’t power up and would never work again sadly. I was such a curious kid and sometimes I paid the price for it lol.

My first introduction to the Game Genie was a friend of mine who had the Gameboy version. When he told me what it did, I literally didn’t believe him, it was frankly too good to be true, but when he showed the code screen to me, my mind was blown. It was like someone just put me on with some ancient secret knowledge. I needed to have one, BAD. Then he told me there was other cheating devices for tons of consoles, like the game shark. I never even knew you could use cheat codes in games besides GTA, I was so excited to try things like infinite lives/health in all my favorite games. My family didn’t have much money growing up so I had to wait for a while, the whole time obsessing and waiting to get my own. When I eventually got one, I had a lot of fun with it for a while, after not that long though, it got old. I had to use the Game Genie myself to realize that a big part of what makes games enjoyable is overcoming the challenge, at least for me, it’s the most important factor for a game to be good in my eyes. If there’s no challenge or strategy, it’s just not enjoyable to me, period.

it's called mods, everything is in software now, although it is mostly on PC since on a consoles, you have to modify the hardware since everything is locked out nowadays...

One benefit of the Game Genie was that the cartridge always worked on the first or second try with the Game Genie connected. Without it, I'd have to blow into the game 4-5 times til I ran out of breath. Some games wouldn't even run without it. One game I could rarely get to work even with the Game Genie was TMNT 1. Not sure why. I had the cleaning kit with the solution and the little scrubbing sticks too. It absolutely made the game too easy, but by the time I got it I had already gone as far as I could in most of the games, and the Game Genie actually let me see the ending in some of them.

One thing you missed is at least in the SNES version of Game Genie it could also make the game harder. Mega Man X had a code to disable charging the X-Buster.

Game Genie brings back memories, I never had one but we would go over a buddies house, be amazed on using cheat codes for the first time ever to beat an almost impossible level! Back then this was common place because the NES games were that UNFORGIVING in some titles. The Genie logo is forever embedded in my head, a great marketing tool.

So many memories. You had to be careful playing Super Mario Bros. III with it though, since certain codes would pause the game forever after the Bowser battle unless you manually walked up to the last door and pressed Up to enter it. The sad thing is that it actually warned you about that in the code book, but somehow neither my brother nor my sister ever saw that. I only found that out because a classmate of mine in school told me about it. But probably one of my favorite weird codes was for that game. If you entered SEUZUGAA and then just stayed on the map screen you would get a sort of uncontrollable sound test where it would cycle through most of the music in the game before going off into a weird sound effects loop. You just didn't want to try to enter a world since it would lock up the game.

First codes I plugged into this thing were so that I could play as the boss characters in Street Fighter 2, prior to Champion Edition. It didn't work for long, but if you made it through a complete round you felt pretty awesome.

So cool to see your video! I remember when I got the GG and how it breathed new life into so many of my NES Games. A few of my favorite games to use the GG on were Super Mario 3, River City Ransom, Ninja Gaiden 2 and (lol) enabled me to finally beat frigging Top gun as well as a few others. +L.S.A It is just the trademark. Camerica made the game genie, and galoob bought the rights. The design is the same, just that the Camerica version was the first.

Galoob manufactured the Game Genie in North America, Galoob only sold it themselves in the US though. The Camerica version has French and English instructions on the cartridge along with the Camerica logo.

I had a subscription to Game Genie when I got mine. Good times. I would rent new NES games from my local video store, and use the genie and input the codes I wanted. This came in handly at the time since I could only rent the said game(s) for 3-day weekend.

To this day, I have never seen anyone speak about the Final Fantasy 2 Game Genie codes that allow Palum and Porom to have a triple attack with Tellah. I made up my own codes and stumbled across this one and I think I was the only one.

Game? Enhancement? Stop right there... Being totally blind, I could never really consider playing a special stage/secret zone in Sonic the hedgehog series. A. Not without sighted assistance, which I usually can't rely to get a moment's notice on, B. In this modern world, I'm probably looked at funny if I tell someone I've played videogames. Some of these codes negated the very need for a special zone in the first place. Others? Let's see, I really liked keeping rings between stages, activating a special form with only one ring/keeping that one ring permanent, (oh wait...), activating an element shield multiple times? And I'm not supposed to be a kid in a candy store for having exactly 0 sight since Day 1? Some of you game devs quietly forget that for a game series like Sonic the Hedgehog, sounds are an absolute must for someone like me, same for the music indicating if I'm normal, in a special form/in a boss fight/just about to clear a stage. Hey, a signpost. I'm just gonna keep hitting this sign while it's still in the air... Free water shield, yummy! Energizer bunny just keeps going - and going? 6 Extra Life songs,... Already at 999, but I'll take them anyway, ROFL.

The Retron 1 is a bit weird about these things. The visual sync won't hold and there's no audio (on the code entry screen; the game itself is fine) unless you've advanced it into the game at least once while the TV was on.

I accidentally came across a camerica game genie complete in the box, it was back when I first got into collecting, and i wanted a game genie so i went to eBay, got it, and didn't learn until awhile later that I'd bought something considered rare, it wasn't being sold as anything special, and I didn't even know there were two game genies. Although once i learned this I began to realize most online videos of the code book differed from my own book, proving to me I had something different, aside from the Camerica name on the box.

I shaved off a little of the edges on my Game Genie with my my dremmel drill, just enough to get it on the top loader.. works great, enters and removes like normal..

Never had a Game Genie myself, but when I got the N64 I made sure to grab a Game Shark too! After that, I had a lot of handheld consoles, which of course were supplemented with an Action Replay. I do play games for the challenge, but sometimes I just wanna experience THE STORY, which is easier to do with invincibility or infinite lives. ^_^

I remember the first time I cheated in a game. I used an Action Replay on my copy of Pokemon Pearl before I had even reached the first gym. I ended up trapped in Victory Road with a glitched Manaphy egg that would freeze the game whenever it hatched.

I Never Had A Game Genie In The Nes Days. But I Did Play Some Already-Altered Games In One Of Those 100-Games-In-One Cartridges. The Best Game I Remember Was Entitled “Dead Weapon”. It Was Actually Contra But With Permanent Invincibility. Lol And Then There Was “S Gun Marine” - It Was Contra But You Get To Permanently Use The Spread Gun. There Was Also “F Gun Marine”, ”L Gun Marine”, Etc. Also In Those Versions Of Contra, The 30-Lives Code Was Altered. Instead Of Entering The Konami Code, You Just Hold A Then B And Press Start. It Was Weird.

My Game Genie is a little odd, it has the Camerica logo on the labels but on the part where the cart is plugged in has the Galoob logo. I've had this thing a very long time and never noticed

its interesting that the fight for fair use was won with game genie and should of just set the standards to prevent big companies from doing what nintendo tried to do. Still to this day the fight rages on. Example of this is rockstar keeps filing lawsuits against anyone making mods for GTA. Not talking about the cheaters for GTA online. I am talking about modding groups that is making mods for the single player game like graphic mods and such.

One thing I always hated about gamegenie, it was when the dam thing froze up. Especially when I got so far into the game. + I only got 3 codes & some needed 2 codes to work. Game shark was a great piece for gaming you got more bang to the buck.

Truth Be Told, I Frequently Used A Game Shark During My Play-Station Days. I Had A Game Shark For My Ps2 But I Didn’T Use It That Often As It Was Tedious To Use. I Never Used Any Cheat Devices On My Ps3 As It Might Lock My Ps Account.

I had the game genie hacker version. You could hack any game once you learned how to do it. Came with 2 discs and the adapter. Wish I still had it.
