Hola Grabriel. Bienvenido desde Nueva Zelanda. I'm so happy you've become a rugby fan, and hopefully an All Blacks supporter? Rugby is our number one sport here! I lived in Mexico City for two years and was starved of rugby coverage on Mexican TV haha. Whenever I showed the All Blacks games to my Mexican friends they were blown away by how good they are. I'm back in New Zealand now. We're so proud of our All Blacks! They have the most success of any team of any sport in the world.
Nearly 110, 000 people attended this match in Sydney. It was a thriller to the very end with the great Jonah Lomu scoring the winning try in the last minute. The return match in Wellington was another thriller with the great John Eales kicking the winning penalty for the Wallabies in the last minute of the game.
Was a 9 year old boy last time I watched this game in full. The old man almost sent me to bed because I was cheering our boys on too loud and he couldn’t hear the game !! Thanks for the memories
I was 9 years too. But I only got to watch it on tape since rugby isn't big in Germany except for my city Heidelberg and Hannover, which at that time made up for 9/10 teams in our top league. Since 2016 the top league got split up (North/East and South/West) , because it got kinda boring for the rest of the country.🤣
My brother was in the stand that day. He says at the end of the game every man, woman, child stood and gave a standing ovation - Kiwis and Aussies alike. Everyone had a smile on their face. This is one game as an Aussie that I never tire of rewatching - even though we lost (partially offset by the fact that we ended up retaining the Bledisloe and winning the TNs that year).
I was in the stand that day, can confirm. I watched this just before going to boarding school and playing Rugby for 4 years, you can imagine how it made me feel.
This match brings back good and bad memories good being This all blacks Team beat the best wallaby team possibly in history and having the thought of losing my mother at the age 22 To a brain tumor the match seemed trivial at the time I found it hard really cherish this I waited my whole life to see it now i can relive every moment love watching this match every so often thank you to whoever made this video
I cannot tell you how awesome, and important for the growth of world rugby, it would be to have entire past tournaments available. For example, the entire Tri Nations championship from 2000. Having these one-off games is great, but a part of the greatness of the sport is being able to follow it in context, which would be provided if an entire year's competition was available. Arohanui, an American Fan....
@@user-gu4tv4hp6sgreatest sport is subjective. Cricket is the greatest sport, when I want a nap. Soccer or baseball are great to have on in the background at a bbq. College football is the greatest if I want to be entertained. The only reason soccer is the top sport in the world is because you don’t need money or resources to play. The only required equipment is a ball.
Now, I am a South African so I have definite bias when it comes to the topic of great games, but this match was epic. And my favorite part is at the 13:40 moment in this video, the anticipation of the crowd when the ball gets to Lomu. That guy was special.
I was in the stands for this game and it was amazing. I was there again a year later for Kefu to cross the line for that iconic come from behind victory to give John Eales the greatest of send offs. This time was IMO the golden age of Australian Rugby. I still have hope that we can get there again.
oddly you say that because i was thinking as i was watching this game if this was a soccer match in the likes of England or Europe the fans would not be able to sit amongst each other ,there would be fights going on
The Aussies sure had some great teams back in the 80"s and 90"s and I too miss those great heart stopping games which had you on your toes from start to finish. It felt like my heart was gonna jump out of my body. Oh for those days.
I remember watching this live on the tele, and when Jonah scored that last try I was jumping up & down! looks like il be doing that again tonight lol and the 2 x thumbs down on this video must be aussies lol
Its bitter-sweet watching Jonah Lomu, the great number 11, barelling down the sideline, swiping the oppsition out of his way and off his leg. Wish he was here. RIP Jonah Lomu. Will always remember you.
Joenotaverage seen old Tana give a mean shot off the ball and then receive one seconds later somewhere late in the second half 😂😂 how I miss the old days
From the archives of one of the best Games ever played by the ALL blacks to the sad moments we last get to see a true icon play like the true legend he forever is! 💙 Rest in peace a hero in our hearts and in your own right!
Amazing to see Jim Williams playing for The Wallabies and Christen Cullen who both played for my club Munster and gave Coaching Clinics , really fantastic guys , back when Munster was the biggest force in World Rugby, this game reminds me of how more exciting the game was in the early 2000s , The Pack did not dominate like today , the game plan was about breaking lines through quick balls over 10 yards from the scrum half’s , today you will never see a 20 yard pass like Justin Marshall does from a scrum, unbelievable stuff, George Gregan one of the greatest players of all time with 11 No 1 RIP Jonah Tali , we miss The Wallabies at the top of world rugby thanks for this video !! These two teams are probably the best teams in the history of rugby!Only negative is the commentators had no clue about rules especially coming in at the side and offside at the break down!!
I actually fell off my sofa once from laughing too much, the reason, Jonah running over (picture a steam roller and a can of beans) Mike Catt during the 1995 World Cup.
Los Angelino here... gosh I love this sport... I'm happy to know that we finally have a league here... it's amazing soon the USA will host this wonderful sport for the World Cup and it will have us have little league rugby
If you like this game called rugby union, wait until you get wide coverage of rugby league,2 awesome contact sports😁.i believe the American rugby league team is called the tomahawks
What a game. Watched this with two other guys, played a drinking game which was, pick a player, when you hear their name drink, if they score a try, scull full vessel. We had Umaga, Alatini and Cullen, need I say more...
I watched this live on TV and couldn't believe the way our AB's started. Then the WB's turned up the gas to come back and then she was all on. What a game! It was a world record crowd for the time serving as a stadium and infrastructure test-run pre- Olympics. Watching again and editing my comment 08/04/2021. I'll probably re-edit my comment next time I watch it too. I always thought George Gregan's tackle was a leg-trip disguised as a legit tackle attempt or pull down. He scrags the upper body of the player and deliberately swings his lower body off the ground swinging his legs/feet into the opponent tripping them up. He did this to Jonah quite a few times over the years. Some legendary players in both teams.
Hey NZRU thanks for uploading this! Any chance you can upload bledisloe game 2 2003? The game where we finally won it back off the aussies? Would love to see a full replay of that!
Absolutely amazing game of rugby. Two fantastic teams. Some all-time greats in both back lines. Thing is back in those days the Tri-Nations served up epic matches every year that were of a similar calibre to this one, albeit not quite as good. Hopefully it will get back to the point where it’s one score matches every week. Not like the last 5 years where NZ has regularly put 40 points on Aus and SA.
Greatest match, won by the greatest team (All Blacks), match winning try scored by the most iconic player (Jonah Lomu), in front of the biggest crowd (109,874).
Take the first 5 minutes out and the ABs were actually flogged. Aussies were asleep it seems. But this was nearing the end of a great period in Oz rugby. I'm glad they started so badly. To come back against that start was amazing. Disappointing for an Aussie in the end but it made for a game to remember.
If there were a Larkham, a Latham, a Gregan, an Eales, a Mortlock and a Roff now………the list goes on and on for the Wallabies when they were at their most powerful. If only there were similar figureheads and powerhouses in Australia’s squad and game today, they would definitely be vying for the No.1 spot! I just love a great game and this is one hell of an example!!
So much I love watching this, aren’t we goin to talk about the amount of shepherding/shielding and diving in the ruck ...oh how you miss the rugby in the days ..... not forgetting the scissors ✂️ code plays
I remember watching the game and felt pretty frustrated, offensively the All Blacks were awesome, but defensively, they were c-rap. Shouldn't have been that close, but, that's sport.
That first five minutes by the All Blacks is the most destructive I’ve ever seen at this level. That was a 🐐 Oz team and yet, they looked like a schoolboy team against NZ. Wow.
I remember watching this game. What a great game to watch and what a great spectacle it was for the game of Rugby! It was 15 July 2000. The day The Wallabies managed to fill the Sydney Olympic stadium with 109, 874 in attendance. Now it's 2020 and the Wallabies would be lucky to fill an Olympic swimming pool. Hope those days will come back and the Wallabies are a force to be reckoned with again (wish full thinking?).
it will take a century to have another wallabies team playing this good... damn the scrum-half, 10, the captain and generally, the whole team was superb
Strangely, nobody ever mentions the 46 -40 game between the Boks and AB's during that same year. I remember lots of running in that game but also thought at the time the defence of both teams were not up to its normal high standard (but maybe that was just because both teams were so good in attack).
I just watched this thrilling game for the very first time. But I can't understand why they didn't utilize Lomo's talents more? The ball hardly was passed to his side of the field!
