We all cheered a 15 year old child being brutally poisoned and dying a gruesome deaath. That's Game of Thrones for you. It makes you root for incestuous sibling relationships. ......Husbands raping their teenage brides on their wedding night. ......And child murder,...and sometimes even for people who attempt child murder.
Throwing it in on an episode 2 was clever. So clever that very soon After Game of Thrones did it. The Walking Dead followed suit. Putting a big death (revolving door death for those who know) in an episode 4 or something.
I love it when they throw in gigantic plot progression on a random episode 2. This was the best surprise gift Game of Thrones could have ever given us. That's why it was so surprising, because it wasn't a finale or a premiere where the biggest things usually happen. Also, it wouldnt have mattered that he was poisoned. Everybody there is going to die From a confection of diseases they get from eating a pie that has Fresh blood IN it and a mound of birdshit ON it.
The turn of the story around Joffrey is just genius all around. We spend 4.2 seasons just wishing he would die, and when he FINALLY does, it becomes a "who murdered Joffrey?" mystery.
Social media was on fire for a couple weeks when this aired. Again, us book readers knew it was coming so it was great to watch friends that haven't read the books see it for the first time. Never have you seen people cheering for the death of a child lol.

The books really give you an understanding of how poor the citizens of kings landing are. We haven’t really seen it in the show but starvation (and death by starvation) is increasing, yet this wedding feast had 27 courses…. Just to put Cersei’s actions into context.

I absolutely agree! Most ppl think “come on just a show” but it can still stir the emotions. Up until now, the most gruesome scenes they have struggled with but Joffrey’s death stunned their eyes! They couldn’t get enough! 😆😆 Y’all coming along nicely 🫶🏼

You're actually not correct on the "consummate" thing. Even if they HAD it would have gone to Tommen. Unless Margery became pregnant from it, then it would've then passed to her child. Who would be the ruling monarch during Margery's pregnancy? What would happen if Tommen was crowned before her pregnancy was discovered? Pffft, no clue.
Correct - Margaery wouldn't inherit, it would go to Tommen by blood (or her child if she was pregnant by Joffrey). Historically in these cases, any coronations would be delayed until it could be determined whether or not the widowed Queen was pregnant. So a council would likely rule while they waited to see, or perhaps a trusted advisor (probably in this case Twyin). If she was, then the child would be rightful monarch from the moment Joffrey died - if she wasn't, then it was always Tommen. As for power, a Regency would be set up to rule for the child until it came of age - again usually drawn from trusted advisors, or often the widowed Queen herself. Likely Margaery would be named Queen Regent to rule for her child, with Twyin perhaps named as Lord Protector or something as a co-ruler. In practice, Twyin would probably rule, with Tyrell backing.

I was so disappointed when it happened. He didn't suffer nearly enough. lol But that's the key to GRRM's novels, it's like real life, you never get what you want. I believe the murderer has never been revealed in the books, right? It's like the JFK assassination, everything is left in the air, nobody will ever know. That's frustrating but that's the brilliance of it.
Oh my, how the tables have turned on Joffery and Cersei. Cersei poisoned Robert & Joffery killed Ned now they both suffer the consequences Cersei watches Joffery die from poison and he gets his due for the negative actions he committed.
