On History vids. Lately I've been trying out new stuff, both in content and style, doing vids not only on history, like Israel's, but a game, Morrowind, and now a TV show/Book series, GOT. These were vids i wanted to make for sooooo damn long, but couldn't because of the restrictions of the previous way I did things. I'm giving non-historical topics a chance, since there's so much more freedom with shitposting you can get away with on them on RU-vid. Hope you give me a chance to explore some more. From the beginning they cast aside anything to do with magic, wanting nothing to do with it and as mentioned, to try to appeal to mass audiences. My take is that they just didn't't want to deal with the extra complexity it brings, given their episode by episode of the last season reveal how little they understand of what they themselves are writing, much less of what they overall books have.

She was a mediocre ruler in a world of even shittier ones. Every other ruler in Essos (and most of Westeros) was so incompetent and edgelordy that they'd be overthrown in five minutes IRL. Remember that every Unsullied has to kill a newborn baby - there's no way Astapor's medieval population could support that. And real civilizations with that many slaves always fell to rebellions and civil wars. Daenarys wasn't being a utopian hippy by ending that shit, she was being pragmatic.

@@LowestofheDead If Daenerys had carefully dismantled the slave economy because she recognized that this shit was unsustainable during a time when Westeros was facing at least three apocalypses, one of which she was a direct harbinger of -- that would make her the smartest character in the show. But that wasn't her motive. Daenerys did not end slavery and replace it with something that was less wasteful and less prone to rebellion. She ended it and replaced it with nothing, which allowed the slaveowners to reconsolidate and double-down on brutality in the chaos.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes is easily the anime that best handles a dynastic, long-spanning war of military tactics and political intrigue (as well as simply being the best anime, period). Only issue with doing it would be the detail necessary in keeping Reuenthal's eyes consistent. Outside of anime, the Three Kingdoms era of China also has enough complexity and major figures to be worth a video series of its own.
