Hey!
Finally we have a new theory episode for you! This time we will dabble around with 24 TET and hopefully widen your horizons when it comes to micro-modulations! We created a game just for this video to show how to make use of the set of rules we came up with.
If you want to listen to us playing our microtonal songs, check out our first album on all major streaming platforms or pre-order it on:

@@HearBetweenTheLines 24 (and 12) is unique in this pattern of moving every note in a chord up or down independently leaves you with a consonant chord. That's why I love 24 so much. 22 and a few others give you a really cool effect where you can change two notes of a triad and sustain one and you stay consonant. 31 is something like "if one goes up one step the others go down two steps" (I think it's that way around)
@HearBetweenTheLines
@HearBetweenTheLines Год назад
@@FASTFASTmusic The great thing about 31 is that it's so versatile, sometimes you can pivot, sometimes it also works with moving both voices a diesis, it's really depends. But yeah, 24 is amazing.

Nice. If we introduce the 7th or more tensions, it's able to make more pattern of modulations!

Have you guys also dabbled in mathematics? This is straight up group theory and it’s beautiful.
@HearBetweenTheLines
@HearBetweenTheLines Год назад
Hahaha, not really, to be honest, but I'm talking a lot to e.g. Mike Battaglia, who thinks a lot in these terms :) Would you mind explaining about group theory and card games? db
@lachlangray8120
@lachlangray8120 Год назад
Yeah! Group theory is a part of a branch of math called abstract algebra, which I think of as ‘meta math’. It’s kind of like the math you use to get at why math works. Honestly this video will explain it a million times better than I could (but if u watch and have questions I’m happy to answer!): m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g7L_r6zw4-c.html&pp=iAQB Another longer, but also really interesting and friendly video talking about what group theory is about, and done by a channel close to the hearts of STEM folk: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mH0oCDa74tE.html&pp=ygUYVGhlIG1vbnN0ZXIgZ3JvdXAgdGhlb3J5 You guys have made a kind of triad algebra. The entire board is a “group”, and these 6 movements would be “transformations” (or “operators” in my preferred lingo). Opposite directions eg < and > are “inverses” of each other. The omitted movements >>> and

In 24 equal, you can get within 19 cents of a 7/4. Better than the 31 cents difference of 12 equal at least. Scala: equal 24 set tolerance 0.756 show location 7/4
@HearBetweenTheLines
@HearBetweenTheLines Год назад
We don't really feel that 950 cents sounds like a harmonic 7th, even though mathematically you are absolutely correct, that's why we left it out of the intro :)
