I thought you had a diesel midel, with all the talk of dropping the engine in the ground. No need for all of that. Take off the front end and Bob's your Uncle! Better do belt, hoses and water pump. Better look at the facets and bolts, also the rear cam chains and solenoids. Also drop the engine oil cooler, replace the upper plastic connector and gaskets. When your there hoses are smart to replace. You could do the whole thing yourself for less than paying somebody else the labor.

I don't want to speak for anyone else, but I subscribed to this channel because of the videos on the Cayenne, and I'd hazard a fair few others might fall into that category. If it were just the Punto videos I'd not have subscribed, they're just not my thing. So if, hopefully, this channel goes on to being something that benefits you financially, there's a high chance the Cayenne will have been fundamental in that.

I think you just have to be lucky when buying older luxury cars, even service history doesn't protect you.

You can get a TT Cayenne engine for than $2 - 4K in the USA. Perhaps you can find a local one.

Absolutely feel for you, that is a staggering amount of money for a timing chain, I would never of dreamed of it being that much, but I guess I’m totally out of touch with how much premium cars cost to fix now! I hope you can mitigate some of your losses at least, and you have still got a lovely yellow Punto.

Incredible to think I live in dubai and I had my engine mounts , new gearbox oil seal, crankcase seal, valve cover gaskets, all oils changed, engine mounts require and engine drop and it all cost me £3000 on my 955

I think that with machines like this bought 2nd/3rd hand you need to have a very large slush fund in case you are unlucky or get stung. E.g.wealthy enough to take an educated gamble and then hope for the best. It's a lovely car and i am sorry for you having such rotten luck. It would make great content fixing it, BUT not if you have fallen out of love with it after all of the additional expenses. You have to really love the car to poor more money into its repair, plus find an exceptionally good specialist that you can trust. Not an easy decision when resources are limited.

Don’t sell it for £2K ! That is far to cheap. As you say your intentions were good and course noble. Sit on it for now. Someone will come up with an idea. Maybe contact “it’s Joel” and get a second opinion from his specialist. Also Jack at Number27 may have an idea or contact. He has been in a similar position with some of his cars.

I totally understand how it feels like cuz I got an 06 Cayenne Base 3.2 VR6 last year and it seems like to have some problems popping out. I fixed one and then another popped up, costing me quite a number of money. I have been thinking of selling it as is and stopping loss but I just don't wanna let go to be honest.

I am not you but I would just take the full front of the car, you can do the timing chain whist sitting in front of the car. Its just bolts , coolant and gaskets and the biggest bill is your own time.

Discovered the channel this morning for the Cayenne content, binge watched the lot and came to this terrible end. Would be a shame to see UK Cayenne content disappear - there's just not enough of it on YT.

what a liability of a car,,,

My 955 is costing me to maintain but I'm keeping it anyway. More recently I've had to have it realigned (drives much better again), the entire steering column replaced because of one faulty relay, the main transmission seal replaced because years ago caustic coolant leaked on it and rotted early. Had my timing chain gone I'd fix that too. Turbos tend to burn out before 100k but durable Cayenne turbos are among the best in automotive history; be happy you haven't replaced those yet. These are still high value vehicles even though not represented in price. The is a good enough after market for parts, especially for overlanding.

Thats gutting news hopefully you can get a few other quotes for the belt and fingers crossed can get some cheaper. If not, consider a series of breaking the porsche if you have the space, but content wise would be difficult.
